Time Magazine called to say that I was PROBABLY going to be named “Man (Person) of the Year,” like last year, but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 24, 2017
Of course, Time defends its reputation.
The President is incorrect about how we choose Person of the Year. TIME does not comment on our choice until publication, which is December 6.— TIME (@TIME) November 25, 2017
Time doesn't say exactly what it does in the choosing process, only that in some way the President is "incorrect." It doesn't say he's completely wrong. But Time is getting us to notice the annual nonsense of Person of the Year, and Trump wins too because he's making (some of) us think of course he deserves it (probably), but Time won't give it to him unless the Art-of-the-Deal man makes some deal with them. I'm picturing the editors rubbing their hands together and saying "I've got this thing and it's fucking golden, and, uh, uh, I'm just not giving it up for fuckin' nothing. I'm not gonna do it."
But who really gives a damn how the process they make us look at every year actually works? It's better to leverage the occasion. Go big, go arty, go comical, go hardcore. Like Rose McGowan:
— rose mcgowan (@rosemcgowan) November 25, 2017
Don't like that? Then go big, arty, comical, and hardcore in the direction in a pro-Trump direction (or some other direction that suits your taste). If you like Trump, don't be boring. Be creative and viral. We're all diseased.
ADDED: If Time is right and the President is incorrect, does that make Michael Moore a liar?
Film-maker Michael Moore claims that director Mel Gibson cost him the opportunity to be Person of the Year alongside Gibson in 2004. Moore's controversial political documentary Fahrenheit 9/11 became the highest-grossing documentary of all time the same year Gibson's The Passion of the Christ became a box-office success and also caused significant controversy. Moore said in an interview "I got a call right after the '04 election from an editor from Time Magazine. He said,' Time Magazine has picked you and Mel Gibson to be Time's Person of the Year to put on the cover, Right and Left, Mel and Mike. The only thing you have to do is pose for a picture with each other. And do an interview together.' I said 'OK.' They call Mel up, he agrees. They set the date and time in LA. I'm to fly there. He's flying from Australia. Something happens when he gets home... Next thing, Mel calls up and says, 'I'm not doing it. I've thought it over and it is not the right thing to do.' So they put Bush on the cover."ALSO: Would Time ever give the honor to the same person 2 years in a row? While a good number of men have been Man of the Year more than once, the only person who won 2 years in a row was Richard Nixon, and in the second year, he was a co-winner with Henry Kissinger. I think Trump — if indeed he was in serious consideration for the honor — was at serious risk of being paired with someone else. While Nixon getting paired with his National Security Adviser was not disrespectful to Nixon, if you look at the last time a President got paired with someone else, it was Bill Clinton, in 1998, paired with his nemesis, Ken Starr. So I think if Trump was under consideration, it was in some way where he wasn't the sole honoree, but put alongside #MeToo or The Women Who Spoke Out or Rose McGowan and Ronan Farrow or something that Trump wouldn't want anyway.

Trump doesn't say that he was named, only that he was probably going to be named. My guess is that Time was trying to butter him up so that they could get a photograph.
Time's best move is now pick Harvey Weinstein.
Yeah Trump's a pig. We should have voted for the Democrat... Oh wait...
Man of the Year 2017 is the Mean, er, Men of the Year—The Strongmen: Trump, Xi, Putin, Erdogan, Mohamed bin Salman, Duterte, Jong-un
You know who else used to say things were "incorrect"?
Lenin.
"it is incorrect to talk about famines under communism"
Not that millions weren't dying. Lenin just didn't want it mentioned.
Maybe this is what time has in mind?

It seems that Joe Barton deserves some consideration for this award, for so bravely fighting the scourge of agism. Thanks to Joe, sexting, which ageist prejudice once restricted to the teen set and those in good shape, is now open to everyone. Now, even men close to seventy can perform sex acts in poorly lit videos that they can share on the internet without consequence. Three cheers for Joe, you are never too old to try new things.
If it were up to me, I'd give it to The Deplorables — those of Hillary's famous basket — the 40% who stuck by Trump through everything, who got him elected.
No Deplorables; no President Trump. No President Trump; no #pussygrabsback. No #pussygrabsback; no #metoo.
Time was trying to troll Trump, hoping he would say he was going to be MOTY so they could name someone else and embarrass him. Alas, he trolled them back.
Winning!
"Go big, go arty, go comical, go hardcore."
For some reason this makes me think of the Eighties.
Being at a friend's house, in the living room of which his parents had a framed Pat Nagel print over the magenta couch.
Just a year before they had a Seventies couch. Earth Tones. They now had an Eighties couch.
Time Magazine's Man of the Year for 1982 was "The Computer." That could've been on the glass coffee table.
As for hardcore:
Wild boys fallen far from glory
Reckless and so hungered
On the razors edge you trail
Because there's murder by the roadside
In a sore afraid new world
They tried to break us
Looks like they'll try again
Wild boys (wild boys) never lose it
Wild boys (wild boys) never chose this way
Wild boys (wild boys) never close your eyes
Wild boys always shine
Go big, go arty, go comical, go hardcore: sometimes Duran Duran went four-for-four.

I'd tell Rose McGowan that her 15 minutes are up, but she's over in the corner with a straw up her nose. That's not a good look for an actress who's not exactly swimming in scripts these days.
But seriously, f**k Time. No one who voted for Trump reads it. They'll likely screw with the cover photo to make him look bad, they way they did with Bush 41 and John McCain. What, they're going to do a complimentary piece? Not in this decade. There's just no upside.
Time Magazine's Man of the Year for 1982, "The Computer," is how we can see 2017's possible Woman of the Year, Rose McGowan, naked.
'Rose' was probably Name of the Year a few times. In the late 1800s.

Or maybe some consideration could be given to Wes Goodman for so bravely fighting the good fight for closeted Republican lawmakers everywhere. An oppressed people who have wandered through the political landscape without a true homeland since the time of Lincoln.
"Go big, go arty, go comical, go hardcore. Like Rose McGowan." I'll give you "arty." But "big"? "Comical"? "Hardcore"?
It is to laugh. In that sense, comical.
Anyway, even prog agitprop is done in bad faith. Full quote: "They let you grab them by the pussy."
Maybe the die hard NeverTrumpers. They still are trying to derail his agenda.
This is a very odd era.
Maybe they should choose Kaperneick. All the other lefties are.
I was willing to agree to the interview and photo shoot, but I refused to subscribe. Thanks anyway!
Say what you will about Republican's imperfect ability to live up to what you believe to be their stated values, at least they don't claim to be champions of women's rights above all, then commit acts of sexual harassment, assault and rape, claiming that their political positions make them immune to criticism.
Actually, it's rank and file Democrats who claim that their stated political positions make them essential to the women's rights movement. Those particular men are indispensable.
Good lyrical reference Wilbur.
And, didn’t Time just comment before December 6?
TIME must be tempted.
Will TIME give Bill Clinton the same treatment?
Two big stories from this year, both with a generic bent, maybe SHOULD be in consideration: women who've been abused, and the non-Muslim white male mass shooter. Both provide Time a chance to virtue signal HARD.
7:34 - Meade.
That's a good point.
If Hillary were elected, would Harvey Weinsten be outed? nah - It would be business as usual for the big mega D-donor.
Trump saved us by outing himself first.
Tim said... Worth a big repeat.
I don't think that Trump really would be their Person of the Year. Earlier in the year, it would have been Putin (in a dark, shadowy cover marionetting Facebook and the media) and the Russians behind every door and under every bed. Now, I think it probably should be Ronan Farrow and the #metoo's who are bringing a new Reign of Terror to Hollywood, Washington and New York.
Wes Goodman.... man of the people, falls from grace.
Who?
" . . . does that make Michael Moore a liar?"
No, THAT doesn't make Michael Moore a liar.
It is not supposed to be an "honor;" just the man - er, person - who most influenced the news in the past year.
And TIME's opinion mattered under Luce and Fuehrbringer; today, not so much.
A very good and creative photo montage. Seriously. Trump said those things. What would Scott Adams say?
Hillary should have put that photo montage into wide circulation.
There is a segment of the female population that will never be persuaded by Trump.
Yet again, Trump outsmarts the liberal media. These young dumb liberals are severely mismatched vis-a-vis Trump.
i nominate mad mike hughes described as an 'extremely intelligent man' ready to launch himself into space in a homemade rocket in the name of republican science... to prove once and for all that the earth is flat... there can be no other libertarian hero worthy of time's man of the year.. you go boy !
watch your wallets, they are here and pilfering your savings !
TIME is NOT on my side, no it ain't.
As to the creative photo montage, a lot of men have said those things. And women are not always complementary of men.
Why doesn't Time choose the many, many pathetic members of the Resistance? They could use pics of Hillary, Bernie, the media, Hollywood, Bill Kristol, etc
Why do I think james james is a new incarnation of Laslo? Has anyone ever seen them together?
We've been a "sluts are us" world since the sixties and now we have to endure all this liberal faux born again virginity so as to destroy Trump. Young dumb Liberals, time has past Time by.

In that parallel universe the B side of that 45 is "Get On My Cloud". Or was it "On Top Of My Thumb"?
As for the "Must be a pretty picture, you dropping to your knees" on Rose McGowan, Trump made the remark in an episode of “Celebrity Apprentice 6” during a discussion with Brande Roderick and rock star Bret Michaels.
“Brande came in here, “ Michaels said on the show, “She got down on her knees and said, ‘I passionately want to do this—' ”
“Excuse me, you dropped to your knees?” Trump interrupted.
“Yes,” Roderick responded.
Trump was making fun of the fact that she literally got on her knees to "beg" her case in the silly competition. Doesn't seem very businesslike to me, either. "Must be a pretty picture, you dropping to your knees" was said because it's a TV show and you're trying to keep it interesting to the audience with sexual innuendo you can get away with, with a mixed audience.
“I actually didn’t even remember him saying that,” Roderick, to whom the comment was directed, said on MSNBC’s “Live with Thomas Roberts” on Friday.Roderick said Trump has always treated her with respect.
“I’ve always had a positive experience around Donald. He’s always been encouraging. He’s never been disrespectful to me,” Roderick said after they showed her the clip of Trump's remark. “I don’t condone men being derogatory, but I think he was just — he’s on television, he’s trying to be funny. I don’t think that he meant anything horrible by it.”
I am liking Rose McGowan more and more. I'd like a bit more of what she has.
Who would be on the cover of Time this year if the Koch acquisition had already taken place?

My nomination for Time Person(s) of The Year would be Christopher Steele and the Fusion GPS staff.
I'd like a bit more of what she has.
Love handles, by the look of it. Another reason not to do nude protest pictures.
I can't remember a time when Time's Man of the Year was noteworthy or relevant. I do remember a time when Time was noteworthy and relevant....a long time ago.
But seriously, f**k Time. No one who voted for Trump reads it.
No one who voted for Trump is even aware Time is still in business.
"You" were chosen in 2006 as Time magazine's Person of the Year. Didn't make you a penny more, did it?
Blogger called to say that I was PROBABLY going to be named “Blog Commenter of the Year,” like last year, but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!
I love to run these he-said-she-said tit-for-tat Twitter things through what I call the Phil Philter. My late father-in-law had already fought in WWII for two years when he was part of the Normandy invasion. He spent a few months as a POW. He came home, married, raised eleven children and worked for the State Department, earned masters' degrees in physics and chemistry and also a law degree. Sat on numerous big-name boards, came very close to being elected to Congress, is now buried in Arlington and the Secretary of the Army attended his funeral. If Phil would think something was trivial bullshit, I ignore it. This is trivial bullshit. This is what we spend our time thinking and talking about in the year of our Lord 2017?
Rose, what a waste of your time. Just ignore Trump and go do something worthwhile.
Go big, go arty, go comical, go hardcore. Like Rose McGowan:
Let's just have another look at that humorous anti-Trump Pussy Riot video . Plus leering at the singer never gets old.
Rose calling out Harvey - progs are unhappy, uneasy...
Rose calling out Trump - You go grrrl!
Yet another example of the biased MSM.
Shame on you for broadcasting Rose McGowan.
There is a factual claim at issue. Time does not dispute Trump's factual claim, only that he is wrong about the “process” 10 to 1 Trump is truthful here, and Time deceptive.
$100k Rosie, silent for decades, now she won't shut up.
Time says Trump's statement was "incorrect". I believe Trump, because why would he make this up? But, I'm a Trump supporter. I wonder what fraction of the public believes Trump?
Rose McGowan's photos show why no one cares about the harassment charges against Trump. If that's the worse they have try should vote him for saint.
Sarah Huckabee Sanders posts a picture of a pie she made on twitter. A 'super smart millennial' saw PBS in the url, and proudly proclaimed on twitter that the Press Secretary stole a file photo of a pie from Public Broadcasting, and posted it as her own.
The 'super smart millenial' was quickly schooled on the fact that PBS is just the platform twitter uses to host photos, so she took down that tweet, but still insists it's 'fake'.
In the meantime, her original tweet travels lefty cyberland, and is picked up by White House correspondent April Ryan. Ryan then goes on a tweetstorm about Sarah Huckabee Sanders' 'fake pie'.
Now, half of the country knows for a fact that Sanders posted a pic of a fake pie, and nothing will ever convince them otherwise.
This is our Country.
What exactly is Time disputing?
Few want to eat April Ryan's nasty pie.
The difficulty with a woman like Rose McGowan complaining that she was treated like a disposable sex object is that she is perfectly happy to treat herself that way, as these photos attest. She seems to understand that nothing she has to say is of any interest to anyone if she has her clothes on. Maybe Harvey just took her at her own estimation. In which case he probably overpaid for whatever he got.
Darrell said...
What exactly is Time disputing?
Exactly. Trump doesn't say how Time chooses its person of the year, so he can't be incorrect about it.
Charlie Rose McGowan.
It's almost like they complained about Trump as a proxy for their own industries- entertainment.
I wonder how the men who criticized Trump over and over felt, knowing about their own skeletons. I wonder how so many of "the resistance" women felt, knowing there was someone they hadn't spoken up about who was closer to them.
No one who voted for Trump is even aware Time is still in business.
Wrong. All who regularly visit their dentists know TIME still exists.
@Hagar, can I recommend my own dentist to you? No copies of Time or Newsweek anywhere in evidence.
Does anyone under 65 care about TIME or buy it?
In ye olden days, Time summarized the weeks news so people who couldn't get access to a good Big City newspaper, or were too lazy, could more or less keep up with what was happening.
Today, with the internet and cable TV, its irrelevant and has been for 20 years. I'm surprised its still in business.
Time needs Trump & not vice-versa.
Peeps love that Trump has contempt for the MSM.
Wankers like McCain, Mitt, Jeb, and McConnell never understand that.
I think the year that I stopped caring who TIME named "Man of the Year" is the same year I stopped watching Saturday Night Live because I could not stay awake through an episode.
What exactly is Time disputing?”
“Exactly. Trump doesn't say how Time chooses its person of the year, so he can't be incorrect about it.”
Trump isn’t disputing anything,
“TIME Magazine refuted President Donald Trump's claim, in which he suggested he "was PROBABLY going to be named" the magazine's 2017 "Person of the Year."
It’s just another example of Trump lying and Time called him on it publicly. From their statement it appears they are saying they did not call him to tell him he would be Man of the Year and he lied when he said he turned it down. That’s pretty clear to most people unless they go out of their way to spin Trump’s lie into something else, as they usually do. The constant twisting, turning, excuse making for Trump is really getting old and stale.
ARM momentarily forgets that he spent 20 years enabling a forcible rapist, gets spanked, tries to change the subject. Expect a lot of this from Democrats in the coming year.
Let Time get it on the record that they didn't call Trump. Then he should release the call. Or maybe Mueller or the NSA can do it. FakeInga can ignore it then, like the two hundred thousand other times she's been wrong.
One of the weirdest things about the MSM and Left, is there obsession with pervy sex terms. Evidently they talk about it a lot. Of course, you look Clinton and Cigars/Lewinsky and Weinstein and his potted plants...
So, the "Tea Party" became "Tea baggers", Trump "blood coming from..whatever" became menstruation, Roy Moore asking 17/18 y/o girls out - with their parents permission - becomes "Child Rape", and Trump saying 'You look pretty on your knees" means "Blowjob". And of course, Palin = "Trig's baby".
Its amazing.
Now, whoever gets named, is the consolation prize person of the year prize since Trump publically turned it down. And ahead of the curve as usual, Trump put a stamp on the fact no one cares what Time magazine thinks anymore.
You Trump sycophants should ask yourselves, why is it so important for Trump to lie about being picked for Time’s Man of the Year? Obviously he wanted it very badly and figured out he wouldn’t get it, so he preemptively lied to say he turned it down to save face. The man is a petty child who can’t go for two days in a row without causing some silly drama.
"The constant twisting, turning, excuse making for Trump is really getting old and stale."
Some weapons-grade irony there. These people sincerely believe that we'll just magically forget who they are and what they've done.
Ditto, re the collapse of newsmagazines.
Back in the day Time et al were important.
Most places did not have a NYT scale newspaper.
Foreign readers only rarely got US newspapers, even the International Herald Tribune. WSJ subscriptions were expensive and always late.
Besides summarizing the news of the week, they were also good at the big picture stories.
Time in the old days also was quite a right-wing magazine editorially. The international leftists regularly condemned them as American propaganda.
They are going to give it either to "The Resistance" or the #metoo brigade. Time might have wanted Trump photos as part of that.
Trump has long been obsessed with being on the cover of Time. To assert that he thumbs his nose at Time is laughable.
"Amazing," tweeted Time's chief content officer, Alan Murray. "Not a speck of truth here — Trump tweets he 'took a pass' at being named TIME's person of the year.
If any of this shocks you, you haven't been paying attention. In fact, Trump's focus on Time magazine -- and especially the publication's choice for man/person of the year -- is a long-running obsession that predates his political career.
"I knew last year that @TIME Magazine lost all credibility when they didn't include me in their Top 100...," Trump tweeted in October 2012.
He sounded a similar note the following April. "The Time Magazine list of the 100 Most Influential People is a joke and stunt of a magazine that will, like Newsweek, soon be dead. Bad list!," he tweeted. (Trump didn't make the list. This fact should not stun you.)
Despite sending a bevy of other tweets between 2012 and 2015 deriding Time for being "paper thin" and "really flimsy," the magazine returned to Trump's good graces in 2015 when his out-of-nowhere presidential campaign landed him the cover.
Donald J. Trump
Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump
On the cover of @TIME Magazine—a great honor!”
Be creative and viral.
Like how /pol/ and r/The_Donald became meme factories last year?
“Later that year, however, Trump returned to his previous disdain -- after, in his mind, being snubbed for person of the year when Time chose German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
"I told you @TIME Magazine would never pick me as person of the year despite being the big favorite," Trump tweeted. "They picked person who is ruining Germany."
(One tweet on not winning Time's person of the year wasn't enough for Trump. On the same day as the tweet above -- December 9, 2015 -- he also tweeted this: "Thank you @oreillyfactor for your wonderful editorial as to why I should have been @TIME Magazine's Person of the Year. You should run Time!")
Trump's yo-yoing views about Time spun back positive in early 2016 when he made the cover again. "Remember, get TIME magazine!," he tweeted. "I am on the cover. Take it out in 4 years and read it again! Just watch..."
Then, following his election victory, Trump was -- finally, in his mind -- named person of the Year. He tweeted: "Thank you to Time Magazine and Financial Times for naming me "Person of the Year" - a great honor!"”
http://www.cnn.com/2017/11/25/politics/donald-trump-time-magazine/index.html
According to this article, 54% of women voted for Clinton, while 42% voted for Trump. So the "Trump hates women" pushed by McGowen & Clinton & others largely failed.
The gender breakdown of 2016 presidential voters in this article makes for interesting reading:
https://qz.com/833003/election-2016-all-women-voted-overwhelmingly-for-clinton-except-the-white-ones/
in 2016, women voted for Clinton over Trump, 54% over 42%.
In 2012, women voted for Obama over Romney, 55% over 44%.
Not a big change. It would be interesting to have a Democrat or a liberal pundit explain the effectiveness of the "Trump hates women" campaign given these numbers.
Trump knew he wasn’t going to get Man of the Year this year based on this poll and obviously to most, tried to save face with his lie that he turned it down. What a petty little man, your President.
“Saudi Arabia’s maverick Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman, looks set to beat President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin and a bevy of other high-profile figures in Time Magazine’s Person of the Year reader poll.
With only two weeks to the finish line, the 32-year-old, who is embarking on a modernization project in the kingdom long governed by the ultraconservative Wahhabi strand of Islam, sits on 22 percent of the vote out of 33 choices in the poll.
Trump, who won the title last year, is far behind in second place, with just 5 percent of the vote. The American president is tied with members of DACA protection program for undocumented migrants - who Trump proposed deporting - and with the hashtag #MeToo, a campaign to out high-profile figures accused of sexual assault and rape.”

UnknownInga64,
Which one of your dozens of children told you how to they feel so you would have absolute moral authority?
When you have no credibikity, calling somebody a liar doesn't move any needles, anywhere. Just fyi.
If TIME were a sex act, it would probably be feltching.
Hey, unknown, explain the numbers in my 11:16 & 11:26 posts.
Hint: Rose McGowen, and people like her, would never have voted for Trump under any circumstances.
Doesn’t Trump realize that his lie about turning down Time’s Man of the Year is an insult to the Crown Prince of Saudi who is the frontrunner to win? Maybe Trump will need to take another trip to his visit his pals in Saudi for an apology tour. LOL.
I saw that April Ryan nonsense.
All Sarah has to do us invite her into the WH kitchen and bake her a pie and tweet it real time.
So did Time want photos and an interview? What did they want it for? Why not be upfront about it?
Does anyone under 65 care about TIME or buy it?
Trump cares about it.
The LaVar Ball tweets were more Thanksgiving-Presidential-odd then the Time tweet.
This is, of course, insane.
just read that the trump tweeted that he positively will be the man of the year for Pravda..
he just was alerted by wikileaks..
you go prez !
TIME's "Man of the Year" is supposed to be the man - er, person - who most influenced the news in the past year.
I do not see how they can with a straight face pretend that to be anyone other than the Honnorable Donald J. Trump and his tweeter machine!
I think Curious George has it completely correct- Time's editors were trolling Trump to lure him into a premature tweet, but Trump turned the tables on them with a "premature" decline. It would explain the wording of Trump's tweet, and Time's curious non-denial denial.

JJ says he is the reincarnation of Betamax3000. I wouldn't have guessed, other than both JJ and BM3K both have a theme for their commenting persona.
Not that he's chipped in a bunch on this post, but we are very lucky that buwaya chooses to comment on this blog!
Inga is persistent, but not particularly smart. Like all of us, she works with what she has.
Germane to the post's topic, Trump continues to use Twitter to distract the left and the media from what he doesn't want them paying attention to. What is he distracting them from now? Perhaps it is that several articles have come out listing his impressive accomplishments so far, including National Review (of all places), or some of the things Jeff Sessions has been doing way, way under the radar. Or perhaps there is something else that he doesn't want attention paid to by the media. Much of what's he accomplished isn't getting much play in the media, even though they would normally be all over it, but they are too busy responding to his distracting tweets.
“Much of what's he accomplished isn't getting much play in the media, even though they would normally be all over it, but they are too busy responding to his distracting tweets.”
To assert that Trump’s tweets distract us from what he’s doing, is asinine. We know full well what he’s doing to ruin America. The next President will have a lot to undo. Any response to Trump’s tweets are only to highlight his unsuitability to be President. He should continue tweeting, no one is being distracted but his sycophants, because they don’t care what he’s doing, even if it hurts them. Cut off your own nose to spite your face. And spite is what got Trump elected, it won’t get him a second term, IF he lasts that long.
Michael K said...Maybe they should choose Kaperneick. All the other lefties are.
This is actually pretty inciteful and true. Time wants all Americans to genuflect to that wretched manchild.
UnknownInga64 is quite positive that a PURPLE ELEPHANT exists. She knows this because Trump specifically told her not to think of a PURPLE ELEPHANT. So UnknownInga64 knows that she must find the PURPLE ELEPHANT to prove that Trump does not control her thoughts.
Also, she is certain she is concentrating on the important things. The administrative state is reduced. The budget for the administrative state is constrained. The judiciary is filling very fast. The fastest in history.
The PURPLE ELEPHANT is key to stopping Trump.
Nah, not even worth responding to as it’s an attempt to distract from Trump’s lie ( continued lies). Nice try.
Prove he is lying, Inga.
There was a time (heh!) when the popular culture could be ruled by Boomers, most of them from bourgeois families, taking a common "party line." Nixon was a crook, Ford was an idiot, Reagan was an amiable dunce. Blowjobs aren't sex, whatever. If you didn't toe the line, you had no career. You weren't "one of us."
Those days seem to have gone by. They can still dictate terms within their group, but they don't seem to be able to sway popular culture anymore. Despite attacks against Trump that made him out to be a Hitler-and-Putin lovin' obnoxious male chauvinist who cannot count to above ten if his shoes are on, the numbers from the 2016 election were almost identical to the number Romney got in the 2012 election.
The old game is over. Liberals are too conservative to learn the rules of the new game.
“Prove he is lying, Inga.”
Time already did, lol.
This is as big as golf gate.
To the extent that the "Summer of resistance" demonstrated the potency of the opposition, he will not survive.
So much wasted Time.
No, Inga, they did not. What they wrote in their tweet was that Trump was "incorrect" about how they choose person of the year. What they notably didn't write was that they didn't call Trump to discuss the issue. If Trump was lying, I would have expected them to deny they called Trump in the first place, but they didn't do that.
"Time already did, lol."
Asserions are proof, now?
When you read a denial, make sure you understand what is being denied and what isn't being denied.
Occam's Razor suggests exactly two reasonable explanations for what the two tweets mean:
(1) Time was quite reasonably wanting to ensure that if they chose Trump, he would be willing sit for an interview and a photography session. You can be absolutely certain that they do this every time they choose a human being or an organization made up of people. In the case of Trump, it is completely reasonable that he would be selected and would have been called to check on his availability for the interview and photography session. Trump's tweet was basically him saying he wasn't going sit for either one with them.
(2) Curious George had the other reasonable explanation, Time was trolling Trump with the call, and Trump trolled back by "declining it". This explanation has the power that it explains Trump's emphasizing the word "probably" in the manner he did- he is trying to let you know he didn't actually believe it was "probably", and got out in front by preemptively turning it down.
“If Trump was lying, I would have expected them to deny they called Trump in the first place, but they didn't do that.”
They didn’t call him a liar to his face in those words, they used words that most people understand mean exactly that.
"Amazing," tweeted Time's chief content officer, Alan Murray. "Not a speck of truth here — Trump tweets he 'took a pass' at being named TIME's person of the year.
How much clearer could Time possibly be?
And it is important to understand which tweet was specific and which was not. That isn't even a close call given the language used.
Again, Inga, read the sentence you just quoted- he didn't specifically deny calling Trump. That is the key detail unaddressed by Time and it's officers. They could have denied calling Trump at all, but they didn't do that.
“AND A FORMER TIME EDITOR CHIMED IN TO LET THE PRESIDENT KNOW THE CALL MEANT HE PROBABLY WOULD NOT BE NAMED PERSON OF THE YEAR:
Hate to tell you but that PROBABLY means you’re NOT Person of the Year. They just wanted a photo shoot. But I’m sure you still have that fake TIME cover somewhere in storage. https://t.co/HkW1XkKxXK
— Richard Stengel (@stengel) November 24, 2017
BUT THE HARSHEST CRITIQUE OF TRUMP'S CAME FROM ALAN MURRAY, TIME'S CHIEF CONTENT OFFICER:
Amazing. Not a speck of truth here—Trump tweets he 'took a pass' at being named TIME's person of the year https://t.co/D6SJgyTpcY

“TOTAL BS,” WROTE MURRAY IN A SUBSEQUENT TWEET:
Total BS https://t.co/jrUPRbLCGQ
— Alan Murray (@alansmurray) November 25, 2017”
What Time seems to be trying to communicate is that they hadn't yet decided on naming Trump Person of the Year, so he couldn't have turned it down- I do believe this part- it would be crazy to name someone without getting at least an interview for the issue. That is why their communications on the matter was non-specific- if they weren't non-specific, Trump could just show the call log and prove them lying.
And note, again, Trump doesn't appear to have believed he was actually under consideration- he didn't say he turned down the honor. Murray's denial is that Trump took a pass on being honored- Trump didn't- Trump told them he wasn't going to make time for an interview unless it was already decided, and who can blame him?
LOL!
“IN A TWEET, PRESIDENT TRUMP CLAIMED HE WAS TOLD HE WOULD “PROBABLY” BE NAMED TIME MAGAZINE “MAN (PERSON) OF THE YEAR,” BUT THAT HE DECIDED TO PASS ON THE HONOR:
Time Magazine called to say that I was PROBABLY going to be named “Man (Person) of the Year,” like last year, but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 24, 2017
THE INTERNET QUICKLY MOCKED THE PRESIDENT'S TWEET, WITH NUMEROUS CELEBRITIES CHIMING IN TO LIST THE HONORS THEY HAD ALSO CHOSEN TO DECLINE:
.@nytimes just called to say I was PROBABLY going to be named comedienne of the year but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway! @andy_murray
— Julia Louis-Dreyfus (@OfficialJLD) November 25, 2017
Sports Illustrated called and said I was probably going to be Sportsman of the Year, but it was going to take a long photo shoot and interview. I’m not proud of my recent perm and have a interpretive dance class at the interview time so I turned it down! No Thanks SI!!
— Noah Syndergaard (@Noahsyndergaard) November 25, 2017
Bbc just called to say I was PROBABLY going to be named sports personality of the year but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!

And Inga comes up this beauty:
“AND A FORMER TIME EDITOR CHIMED IN TO LET THE PRESIDENT KNOW THE CALL MEANT (emphasis added by YW) HE PROBABLY WOULD NOT BE NAMED PERSON OF THE YEAR"
I don't know about you, Inga, but this is an admission that Time did call Trump. I consider this case closed. You are asking us to believe a call about Person of the Year asking for a photo shoot meant Trump was out of the running. It didn't claim the call specifically informed Trump he was out of the running- only that, for some odd reason, it should have been interpreted that way. Why? I have no clue why anyone would interpret it that way.
Time may have called him, who said they didn’t? They didn’t offer him Man of the Year. THAT is the issue in dispute.
Meade, you devious bastard. You’ve nailed it. Deplorables must be the pick. Who da thunk Inwould be on the Time cover?
Time Magazine called to say that I was PROBABLY going to be named “Man (Person) of the Year,” like last year, but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 24, 2017
So after Lefties are embarrassed, all they have to say is something else, and we have to accept that as fact. Huh.
Inga, even Trump didn't say they offered it, or is it a case that you can't read simple English?
Trump wrote in his tweet that Time called him and told him he was "PROBABLY" going to be selected, and asked for an interview and photograph session. Trump says he replied that "PROBABLY" wasn't going to be good enough for him to agree to either request. What part of that do you not understand?
Here is the entirety of what Time has said about it- that Trump wasn't chosen yet, they didn't deny calling Trump to inquire about an interview and photography session, and they have written that Trump didn't turn down Person of the Year. They are basically denying things Trump didn't write, and being silent about the things Trump did write in the tweet. It is easy to determine who is more accurate here, but it is an answer you don't like.
They most likely told him he PROBABLY would NOT be Man of the Year. And he was insulted and needed to save face when they announced who did actually win, so he lied, saying they told him he’d PROBABLY be Man of the Year. But he turned them down.
Hahahahaha.
They didn’t tell him he’d PROBABLY be Man of Year, as he claimed they did. There is the LIE, what is so hard for you to understand. It’s exceedingly clear.
So UnknownFakeInga thinks they called him to say he would not be Man of the Year. How many millions of calls did they make? 300?
So, Inga, you just can't read. Here is your latest comment in its entirety:
"Time may have called him, who said they didn’t? They didn’t offer him Man of the Year. THAT is the issue in dispute."
Trump didn't say they offered it, Trump was quite specific in writing that it wasn't offered, only that he was told he was "PROBABLY" going to be selected. So far, nothing you have posted contradicts this- at best Time and its officers seem to be denying that they told Trump he was going to be selected, something even Trump didn't claim by your own statement I just quoted.
Another classic by Inga:
"They most likely told him he PROBABLY would NOT be Man of the Year."
But no one at Time has written that either, Inga- just the one quote from someone who doesn't even work at Time. And why would they call Trump to tell him that in the first place? Time hasn't even denied they called Trump and told him he was "probably" going to be Person of the Year- only that he wasn't told he was going to be Person of the Year. The distinction matters, even if you keep deliberately lying about it.
“Trump didn't say they offered it, Trump was quite specific in writing that it wasn't offered, only that he was told he was "PROBABLY" going to be selected.”
Time Magazine called to say that I was PROBABLY going to be named “Man (Person) of the Year,” like last year but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 24, 2017
The LIE is his assertion that they told him he PROBABLY was going to be named. They obviously DID NOT. Sheesh. How many times do I need to repeat this? You are wasting my time.
“BUT THE HARSHEST CRITIQUE OF TRUMP'S CAME FROM ALAN MURRAY, TIME'S CHIEF CONTENT OFFICER:

Time that did two meltdown covers last year, and one by the same artist this year, who wrt0ote him off how many times, that has penned that silly crowdatrike attribution how many tines?
TIME and Inga are zombie-proof. No Brains.
TIME should stick with what they know. They should make a bag of dicks Man of the Year.
The people who supported a rapist who could not define the word 'is' has been reduced to arguing semantics about the word probably.
UnkmownInga64 thinks the weather girl lies when a 55% chance of rain is predicted and it doesn't rain.
The Party of Science, no doubt.
“Trump said his team was contacted by the publication saying that he was probably going to be featured in the magazine.”
https://www.theepochtimes.com/trump-declines-time-magazine-interview-for-person-of-the-year_2366177.html
So now the story changes? They said he’d be “featured” (as runners up to Man of the Year) but NOT that he’d PROBABLY be Man of the Year, as he first claimed. The truth squeaks out .
Now, half of the country knows for a fact that Sanders posted a pic of a fake pie, and nothing will ever convince them otherwise.
Remarkably reminiscent of the George Bush International Fake Turkey Scandal.
Perhaps Trump was preempting being nominated Time's Man Of The Year in light of whom Time has named Man Of The Year in the past.
Lewis Wetzel said...
"The old game is over. Liberals are too conservative to learn the rules of the new game."
This I believe.
On the Time cover: Trump has guaranteed that whoever is picked will be discussed in terms of how that person was more suitable than Trump - or far less suitable. So Trump will be on the cover with whoever is picked. Trump has dominated the media like that all year. And meanwhile Trump is reforming and making America great again which is the only significant story about Trump.
Trump is VERY butthurt that he isn’t getting picked Man of the Year.
LOL.
I think Althouse should do a treatise on the word "probably" is that a maybe, but not quite as emphatic as a 99.9% presumably? There's any number of ways that Time could skewer Trump. Person of the Year need not always be a cover. What a burn that would be, someone else as Person of the Year, but Time still needs to feature Trump on the cover to sell magazines, no matter who is chosen.
Hillary Clinton had man of the year stolen from her by Vladimir Putin.
--UnknownInga64
If Trump hadn’t been lying, he could’ve said POSSIBLY.
But he chose to use PROBABLY to make his followers and sycophants believe he turned Man of the Year down. He turned the photoshoot down, because he was humiliated by being a mere runner up.
Know who isn't going to be Person of the Year?
Hillary Clinton.
That's good enough for me.
I wonder if Hillary Clinton was humiliated by finishing a mere runner up in two presidential races AND so very many times in her own marriage?
No one can do BUTTHURT better than Trump.
The US Left has been named Bowel Movement of the Year. Well done, you!
No one can do BUTTHURT better than Trump.
Except the entire Leftwing of the American political system and much of the Right. The last 12 months have been nothing but butthurt over the election of Trump.
Gahrie,
You mean the Left, LLRs, and the eGOP? Yeah, that butthurt is epic. And childish. Thank goodness credibility is so easily regained when pissed away.
Right?
“The last 12 months have been nothing but butthurt over the election of Trump.”

It very may well be over before then. Mueller is working his way up the food chain.
The last 12 months have been Americans trying to save their country.
If putting Hillary! in charge is the way you'd save a country I'd rather you tried to ruin it.
UnknownInga64 gets it right. "The last 12 months have been Americans trying to save their country.
It started with breaking the Blue Wall of the upper midwest. It continues with reducing the power of administrative agencies. It continues with conservative judges. It continues with returning power to Congress as it should be under the Constitution.
Look, everybody. The stopped click is correct.
Mueller:
Illegally leaking his way to success.
“UnknownInga64 gets it right. "The last 12 months have been Americans trying to save their country.”
I said Americans, not Trumpists.
So Trumpists represent un-American people? So maybe you think it's ok to find us playing softball and shoot us down?
Are we all literally Hitler?
Trying to save our country, community, from a hostile takeover by diversitists (e.g. racists, sexists), "=" (i.e. politically congruence/exclusion), abortionists, female chauvinists, and social justice adventurers (e.g. elective wars, immigration reform/refugee crises, Obama's recreation of the "trail of tears").
“Are we all literally Hitler?”
No, you'reTrumpists. Apologists for Hackers and Sexual predators.

Time Magazine called me a few weeks ago too. This led to us texting and then, of course, sexting. We hooked up a few times, which was fun. But, ultimately, it didn't seem like an ideal match. It's too bad though because Time Magazine is really hot. Oh well. Thanks anyway!

UnknwonInga64,
I never once apologized for Ted Kennedy.
The sexual predator in Chief is mad at his own daughter over her comment about sexual predators who prey on children burning in hell. This is your President. Be proud.
http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/361801-trump-frustrated-with-ivankas-condemnation-of-roy-moore-report
“President Trump privately expressed frustration about his daughter Ivanka's jab at GOP Senate candidate Roy Moore when she said there is "a special place in hell for people who prey on children," according to a new report.
The New York Times reported Saturday that the president voiced disbelief at his daughter's remark, which came after numerous women alleged that Moore pursued sexual and romantic relations with them when they were teenagers and he was in his early 30s.
“Do you believe this?” Trump asked several aides in the Oval Office, according to the Times.”
“Something deeper has been consuming Mr. Trump. He sees the calls for Mr. Moore to step aside as a version of the response to the now-famous “Access Hollywood” tape, in which he boasted about grabbing women’s genitalia, and the flood of groping accusations against him that followed soon after. He suggested to a senator earlier this year that it was not authentic, and repeated that claim to an adviser more recently. (In the hours after it was revealed in October 2016, Mr. Trump acknowledged that the voice was his, and he apologized.)”
NYT
I know---they could do something like a Conditional Person of the Year for Trump. And then, if there's any new revelations they can just rescind it later on? It must be very difficult to honor anyone or bestow accolades in this new environment. Have they taken back Kevin Spacey's Oscar yet? Anyone know the procedure? A sort of Repo Man shows up at the Mansion to obtain the statuette.....
No, you'reTrumpists. Apologists for Hackers and Sexual predators.
Who knew Hillary Clinton was a Trumpist?
I nominate Bill Clinton and Harvey Weinstein jointly for Non-Person of the Year.

"Mueller is working his way up the food chain."
LOL, meaning he has found no collusion between the Russkis & Trump.
Maybe next year!
So, if Bill Clinton had resigned in 1998, Al Gore would have been prez & probably won reelection in 2004. So no Bush, no Iraq War.
The only person who benefited from Bill not resigning was him & Hillary.
The Dems wanted him to stay to prove the principle that consensual sex between a boss and his employee did not rise to the level of an impeachable offense.
Gotta burn, these days. The Clinton's have made the Dem party what it is today: a rump party, representing urban counties, the intelligentsia, and federal bureaucrats.
Does this mean Laslo's dead?
Clinton saved the democratic party from the declining former union underemployed blue collar white trash demographic. Bubba pulled a Nixon and triangulated with the banksters and other rape traders to become a party that caters to the moneyed elite. Now, the party coffins are drowning in cash so they can compete on ad buys with the checked pants country club republicans.
Al Gore would have been prez & probably won reelection in 2004. So no Bush, no Iraq War.
Al would have had to run in 2000, probably with the same result.
Howard missed my link, above.
Howard is bad at math.
Yeah, I get these calls too. Some guy with a Pakistani accent calls me and says, "Hello! I am from Windows and we have scanned your computer and we are planning to name you Man of the Year. Now, are you in front of your computer right now?"
I usually just hang up.
"The old game is over. Liberals are too conservative to learn the rules of the new game."
No, they're too reactionary. There's a difference. Witness Inga's hysterical slobberfest above.
Howard: "Now, the party coffins [sic] are drowning in cash so they can compete on ad buys with the checked pants country club republicans."
Sometimes its possible to be right without even knowing you are right.
“No, they're too reactionary. There's a difference. Witness Inga's hysterical slobberfest above.”
There’s slobbering going on all right and it’s being done by you Trump sycophants. Even when he’s proven to be a liar time after time you pathetic fools keep slobbering and kissing the hem of his garment.
Would someone please stop Inga. It hurts to watch, it really does. Someone should get her to just go lie down. Tell her everything will be okay.
Leslie Graves said...
"Who would be on the cover of Time this year if the Koch acquisition had already taken place?"
Ah yes. Very good.
Someone born November 27, 1953 in Norfolk, VA maybe?
Nobody ever kissed the hem of Obama's garment.
That would-be Emperor had no clothes.
Man of the year should be Ronan Farrow if it isn't Trump. I don't think Time will be able to stop themselves though, and will pick James Comey or Robert Mueller.
Okay, I am just going to right out and say that Time's Man of the Year should have been me. Bullet points:
-changed the oil -- myself -- on the 2001 Explorer.
-learned how to make a darn good Alfredo sauce.
-read both "Iliad" and "Odyssey."
-hired a guy to do some yard work I've been putting off.
Have you done better? Your immediate response will be to say "Yes!", but then look at the bullet points again, especially the one where I changed the oil in the 2001 Explorer. By myself.
With regards to women writing stuff on their naked body: we aren’t looking at what you are writing.
Were it not for bloggers writing about Time's contents, I would never have to know about Time's contents. Would that it were so.
