"So I take it you're posting this because it resonates with that Donald Trump pledge that's been criticized as too fascistic."

"Yep."

Trump was not serious and it showed and everybody was laughing.. he said to pledge to show up to vote even in a hurricane.. whereas these celebrities were serious and clueless and they were engaging little children with their stupidity.

Left-wing stupidity, tag.

Pledging = bad!

Umm, no, it depends on to whom or to what you are pledging.

I pledge allegiance to the flag, of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands.....

Jeez, I remember watching Romper Room as a little boy in the early 70s, and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.

Donald Trump borrowed that stunt of getting people to swear to vote for him from New York Mayor Ed Koch.

It's probably a sign that Donald trump fears he could lsoe Florida, or at least loses suppoprt every day/

I didn't like it when I read that Ed Koch did that.

(I did not see this or read about this myself during hia campaigns - I never was ain an audience with Ed Koch - I think I first read about it in his book Politics, so I can't say I didn't like it when Ed Koch did that, because I didn't know))

I didn't read that September 9, 1985 New York magazine article. I do have the book "Politics" and may have read this some otehr place too.

Trump is Obama for white people. This isn't about anger its about envy. Back in the early Obama years, I thought my fellow Republicans were objecting to the lawlessness and cult of personality. Now I see that many of them just wanted equal time.

I am not in the least entertained. It's a hysterical fearful angry and hate-filled reaction. In short it's the exact other-phobic arguably fascistic reaction that they are projecting on to Trump and his supporters. Psysho-dramas can be entertaining but this one is dangerous. It shows how emotionally irrational our politics have become. That spells personal danger for the candidates and civic danger of a high order for the nation.

Why, David, why? The way mccullough explains it, Trump would be punking the media. There are a few good elements in the national media but, by and large, they've been on paid vacation for the last several years, leaving the yeoman's work to upstart media.

Oh, thanks Jon. I forgot about that one. Yes it is totally creepy and also childish. Oh Ashton and Demi...those were halcyon days!

Bay Area Guy - Not only do I remember Romper Room ("I see Bobby, and Julie..." See me! See me!) and desperately wanting to go there and to the Magic Garden, I think there is a difference. I pledged allegiance to the flag in school too. I would do so now. Allegiance to my country and values of "liberty and justice for all" is different from pledging allegiance to a politician or say, your boss at work and or the company which would make you a Dwight Schrute/Smithers type. No? :-)

Could we correctly say: that pledge that's been criticized as "too fascist"? Or must we add that "ic" to "fascist" in order to be grammatically correct? It sounds weird ... like "racistic" ... and if we do need to add an "ic" shouldn't it be "fascististic"? This would mean we should and could say "that pledge that's been criticized as too racistic" -- assuming racistic is technically a word, which surely it is not -- right??

Ever on the lookout for extra, erroneous syllables sneaking into our words (e.g., "orientate" and "commentate" and "exploitate"), well ... "fascistic" just caught my eye. Sorry. Slow grammar night...

The sad thing is if Trump is elected, not one of these hysterical leftist will actually LEAVE the USA.

They'll just keep being hysterical and writing about how terrible Trump-Amerika is.

So when the chief justice told Barack Obama to raise his right hand and swear to defend the Constitution, Obama should have recoiled: only a Nazi would do that!

But Doc, in '68 Dems shut down other Dems. They have learned their lesson and will now turn their fire on Republicans, so it will be groovy!
