Cissy Houston's harsh memoir about her daughter Whitney Houston...

... may have something of a homophobic theme. I read the linked article because it's linked at Drudge: "CISSY DISSY: Whitney Houston's Mom Writes Unflinching Memoir..." The article characterizes the book, but all the interesting material comes from interviews that have been available for a while, so the article might not represent the book accurately. ("Nippy" = Whitney.)
Houston moved out of the family home an into an apartment with her friend Robyn Crawford at age 18. Crawford was gay, and Cissy did not like her. “What made Nippy’s move particularly hard for me was her decision to room with Robyn Crawford in an apartment in Woodbridge, New Jersey. She knew how I felt about Robyn, but she was determined to live with her anyway. It wasn’t that there was serious tension between Robyn and me— we just didn’t see eye to eye. Still, we tried to be respectful of each other and of our places in Nippy’s life, and we figured out how to give each other the necessary space. We had our love for Nippy in common, and though we rarely agreed, we were at least able to keep things from being too uncomfortable when we were all together.”
Later Crawford moved with Whitney into her big mansion in Mendham, New Jersey. “Early on, Robyn Crawford nicknamed me “Big Cuda”— short for barracuda— and that suited me just fine. The name stuck, and from then out, whenever I’d be coming somewhere to see Nippy, people would warn each other that Big Cuda was coming.”

But it was Crawford who had the guts to tell Cissy about Whitney’s drug problems early on, long before Bobby Brown arrived on the scene.
Seems like it's Crawford who has the interesting memoir material.

Cissy seems to have had a mother-in-law problem with her daughters spouse. That would be the rule and not the exception.

So why was Houston on drugs?

Confusion as who if she was strait or Lesbo? Shame? Lonely?

Who got her on drugs? Crawford? Who supplied her with them?

Lots of questions here. Not memoirs but legal questions. Like lawsuits and jail for some people.

"Big Cudda" is swimming with the sharks to pick at "Nippy's" bones. Shame on her. Don't buy her book and let God's child, Whitney Huston, rest in peace.

Bobby Brown doesn’t help, and Cissy sure doesn’t like him.

Or, it may have something of a heterophobic theme.

Woman not liking a man = no comment
Woman not liking a lesbian = HOMOPHOBIC!!!

may have something of a homophobic theme.

Blacks, by a rather large margin, don't approve of homosexual behavior.

Of course it is always fun to watch lilly white liberals call blacks "bigots" for that.

You know who else doesn't approve of homosexual behavior? Mexicans.

You're not losing a daughter, you're gaining a dominant lesbian, would have been my advice.

"Crawford was gay, and Cissy did not like her."

And as we all know, it is simply not possible to dislike a gay person without homophobia being the root cause.

Heh. Look! It's Althouse, with another blog post about homophobia!

Starting to think a few of the comments in the other thread were closing in on the truth, that the Professor hasn't fully reconciled a few issues of her own.

You know who else doesn't approve of homosexual behavior? The Dalai Lama.

Hey garage!

The difference being that blacks, Mexicans and even white republicans hardly ever actually stone gay people to death just because they don't approve of them.

So yeah...carry on with your goofy hate.

Guys, she's f---in' with you. Don't go there again.

Yep. Makes me wonder. Is some sort of obsessing going on? Is there a precipitating incident for this obsessing? If so, what was it? Stuff like this rarely comes out of the blue.

Paco:

I didn't know that about the Dalai Lama.

I went and looked it up and found that they'd even managed to make him walk it back.

Think about that...gay Buddhists (and others) managed to make the Dalai Lama walk back a belief.

Tell me again how gay people are an oppressed minority?

And yes, Erika is right. The Professor is just fucking with us again.

There are no gay Mexicans. They're like Iranians that way.

Mother using child for money doesn't like it, doesn't stop it.

Daughter uses both to fill her emotional void.

Tell me again how "fagginess" isn't a choice, but instead is something you're just "born with"? And how self-proclaimed homosexuals are mentally stable, perfectly normal people?

lol.

Paco Wové said...

"Tell me again how gay people are an oppressed minority?"

In truth, in many parts of the world, they are oppressed. Most of the world, in fact, aside from isolated pockets. But in the U.S., Canada, or western Europe? Not so much.

I enjoyed 'Nippy''s music.

Don't care to read about her tragic life viewed through Mom's lens.

Hey whores:

Are you saying that no homosexuals are stable, normal people?

CEO-MMP said...

Paco:

You're right about the rest of the world. I was thinking of North America and should've said so.

Because it was mostly gay Buddhists from San Francisco that led the outcry, according to the article I read.

whoresoftheinternet said...

@CEO-MMP:

Very, very few are.

Much like Hollywood actors--who have a very high percentage of people with mental problems and homosexual dalliances--- people who engage in homosexual behavior and are mentally stable & normal are the exception, not the rule. About the only homosexuals who are mentally/emotionally stable are the ones who recognize their behavior as fundamentally warped and wrong, don't try to pretend it's ok, and do their best to keep it under wraps.

Noel Coward, for instance, is an example of a known homosexual who was embarrassed by his predilections and preferred to keep them under wraps, knowing society was hurt when sexuality of any kind was over advertised. J. Edgar Hoover is another probable example of a man who knew his homosexual impulses were wrong and didn't try to normalize it, but did his best to keep it hidden.

Another way to put it: no one comes "out" as a homosexual because they had a happy childhood and have no mental problems.

Homosexual behavior is like drug addiction: no one engages in it and is otherwise fine. It is merely a symptom of underlying mental and emotional problems.

Admitting it is the first step.

This might be a surprise to the enlightened, but in-laws don't really need a phobia for this.

Whether or not there are is irrelevant as the majority are not since gays have higher rates of depression, and drug & alcohol abuse than the population at large.

CEO-MMP said...

whores and Jay:

Agreed, there are a goodly number of gays who suffer from drug abuse, depression etc.

I just find the absolutes whores was going for to be a bit much, since I know both male and female homosexuals who're bright and happy and in stable relationships--at least every bit as bright, happy and stable as the heteros I know.

Absolutes. One must never never use absolutes.

---It is not a goodly number. It is 99% of them.

---LMAO. Yes, faggot central as taught them the outward appearance of "normality" to "prove" how normal they are. Much like a drug addict or child molester or serial killer who can turn on the charm in everyday life and appear completely unaffected. Mere close study will show the cracks in their lies.

You're too easy led astray by appearances. Your friends are fucked in the head.

I don't doubt she disapproved of Nippy's (we called my sister Nipper, so it strikes a chord) friends.

Rather than make a couple of bucks off her, she's trying to tell people who did her daughter in.

As always, whores blows smoke (among other things). Cissy Houston was a member of a highly successful gospel singing group, The Sweet Inspriations. They can be heard doing harmony with Elvis on "Suspicious Minds".
