Took my kids down to the state Capitol in Madison today to show them the holiday tree after we finished ringing bells for the Salvation Army. Unfortunately, we only stayed a few minutes as there were a group of protestors signing protest songs by the tree and that pretty much ruined any inkling of a christmas eve holiday mood. Good grief. I used to love this town but now just find it so tiresome.
We'rae celebrating a pretty special Christmas this year. Our little guy came on Monday. Everything went perfectly, we spent 3 days in the hospital, and have spent much of our time since then just staring in, awe at this wonderful little creature. There's nothing I can say that wouldn't be cliche and cheesy, but its just been fantastic. We're heading to my parents' tomorrow, but I've hardly been aware of Christmas. Althouse does make for.good nursing reading, though. Merry Christmas to Meadehouse and all of you out there.
Congratulations on your awesomely wonderful lovely little guy creature, Lyssa, and merry Christmas to all and to all a silent night snug in your beds with sweet dreams of sugar plums dancing in your heads.
The advertisement where the family picks up hippies and a goat turns out to be a story told wrong. It's not a goat, it's a dog!
Has a different ring to it translated literally in Spanish because cabrón sticks out there on account of being sweary. Sounds like kavrón and it's rude even when the little doggie is right there and you know he means a goat. It still on the level of "¿why'd we have to bring that little asshole?"
And a suggested topic for Ann. Who opens presents on Christmas Eve vs Christmas day? And when does one put up the tree--at the beginning of Dec to enjoy the holidays, or Christmas eve? And when is it traditionally taken down? Inquiring minds..

The Blonde likes to open something right at midnight and save the rest for the morning.
As for when the tree goes up, that depends on whether it's real or fake. We always have a real tree and they'll dry out to the point of being dangerous in a week or so, which means it goes up Christmas Eve and comes down the day after New Year's.
As virgil notes a fake tree can go up after Halloween and not come down until Valentine's Day (which I've seen), although that tends to take the specialness out of it.
The grands are snug in their beds. Christmas with a 2 and 4 year old is awesome. All of us in cold Wyo., where snow is still coming down gently, wish all of you a Very Merry Christmas. Beautiful photo, and Chip is a treasure.
That transformation is Amazing! I want to be able to turn those colors on in any room in my house! Is that something you wrote yourself, or something on the web that does it?
Dante, the original duplicated and adjusted to be darker, then yellow light in new transparent layers above the adjusted copy. The original kept for reference, windows and such, some of that is blacked out in the copy by darkening.
Then when there's enough junk, I regard what I have there stacked up in transparent layers and consider taking some of it out. Wouldn't want to overdo the whole Kincaidification. So one-by-one I go through the layers turning them on and turning them off until I decided how much kitsch to keep.
So goodbye to yard flamingos, which I love so much and go with everything, and goodbye to big old fashion Christmas lights blinking all around, and 'so long' to the blow up Santa yard figure, and various other incongruent holiday iconographic objects spread around, like jack-o-lanterns and Easter baskets. Because we did that before and that was seen as a teeny bit gauche by some and we're being classy this time, on account of it being Christmas, like imagining how classy Kincaide is and trying to be him, by looking at thumbnail results in Google images which is pretty good research.
Then compress and ))) voik ((( the layers become one with the digibytes, SAVED! by the digibytes.
I wonder if it is possible to use different frequency lights to get a similar effect. Like, use a black light that interacts with the usual lights, to penetrate the outer colors of the paint to the underlying colors susceptible to black lights, or high kelvin lights, etc.
Anyway, thanks much for the effort, and sharing. I really like the effect you made!
Cheers! and happy holidays or x-mas, (etc) as your wont takes you,
And, my wife made a "Dr. Seuss" Christmas Tree. It isn't adorned with all Seuss Characters, but it does have a Cat's hat on it. And colored pompoms for thing one and thing two. The crookedness of the top of the tree inspired her.
I don't know where she gets it. It's completely beyond me!
When I was growing up, we bought the Christmas tree a few days before Christmas, decorated it Christmas Eve, and left it up until my mother's birthday, Jan 29th.

My dad put together on Christmas Eve, after we were asleep, an awesome train track.....2 tracks, 3 locomotives, about 40 cars, a church, school & some other building. We thought Santa did this for us. It was beautiful. He loved trains.

Thank you. And Merry Christmas to Meade and you, as well the entire gang that chimes in.
And a Merry Christmas to Meadehouse and all the Althousians.
Nice pic, more snow than us, at least for now.
And I hope Santa drops something nice in your stocking.
Merry Christmas, Everyone!
I'm 46 and I've had one white Christmas, in Monteagle Tennessee. Sigh.
Currier & Ives-ish. Not enough warm window light to be Kincaidian.
Oh yeah, Merry Christmas you two.
We had some snow earlier today -- not unknown but still a rarity in December in Northern Virginia. Then it turned to rain so the white is gone.
Merry Christmas to you and Meade.
Merry Christmas to the Althouse gang.

Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas, Professor Althouse!
Merry Christmas.
A white Christmas in Rochester Hills, Michigan, where we now live.
God bless us, every one!

Yours is the best gift of all.
Merry Christmas! No snow in this part of Texas, which is fine with me.

Lyssa, good job.
A beautiful Hispanic man, a colleague of mine, told me on the birth of my second child, "Children are a gift from God."
And that is lovely news, Lyssa. Congratulations. Little children bring the magic of Christmas.

A wonderful Christmas to all!!!!

Hey, Chip. Ahoy, Chip...
On behalf of everyone, thanks for bringing all the mirth and joy and stuff all the time. Glad tidings, old boy.

Hope you are enjoying the Holidays!

Here's a carol from The Sonics.
Wow, congratulations Lyssa.

And let's hope against Hope and Change for a prosperous new year.
Merry Christmas, Ann and Meade!
Merry Christmas, gang!
Congratulations, Lyssa!
From Drudge, of course.
This makes me sad. On the other hand, I my kids wish they didn't have a Dad! Or at least, that's the way it feels some times.
Merry Christmas, everyone!

Great news, Lyssa - congratulations!
Merry Christmas to all!
Congratulations, Lyssa! A very special Christmas indeed.
Nice job, Chip Ahoy, as always.
Sorry to be late to the party. Got back at 2:00AM from Midnight mass and just woke up an hour ago.
Mucho Congrats, Lyssa on the birth of your son!
Merry Christmas to MeadHouse, my fellow Althousianss, and to all ye lurkers everywhere!
Congratulations, Lyssa!
Felicidades to Lyssa. And please include preemie J.D. in your prayers...
Have not heard back on his paternity, but the grapevine just went through surgery herself.
