Protest and counterprotest in NYC — 1,000 against the mosque near Ground Zero and 200 for it.

They were mostly peaceful, and they didn't really disagree at a high level of abstract principle. All — or mostly all — believe in freedom of religion, respect for the WTC victims, and opposition to those who attacked us on 9/11.

Off the abstract level, we have our troubles... but can you feel the harmony... now and then?

In America we should not take the standards set by Saudi Arabia or Islam extermists to be our standards either. I agree that Islam has some terrible standards in the Middle East. But not all Muslims interpret their religion and practice the same.

I didn't say we should take on those standards (goddman it don't people read??). I simply stated that this Iman teaching tolerance and respecting other beliefs and values would be better served in those places, as opposed to the model of diversity that is NYC.

If you agree that Islam has some terrible standards within the ME, then it stands to reason that's where this Iman should be concentrating his efforts.

"I only want the Muslim community...to acknowledge that it is indecent to do this...."

But it's not indecent to build a Muslim YMCA in this spot, not at all. It only is so in the minds of religious bigots.

What you want is irrelevant, as it has nothing to do with you.

What's funny is the Muslim community might take offense to you drawing an equivalency to thier 'cultural center' to the Young Men's Christian Association.

Your accusations of 'bigotry' would probably have a shred more credibility if leftists like yourself didn't spend the last 50 years demonizing, degrading and mocking Christianity. So you'll have to forgive me if I'm somewhat skeptical of your side's new found love and respect for your choice of religious fundamentalists.

To support a mosque, any mosque, is to support Sharia.

By supporting Sharia you reject personal freedom. You support the subjugation of women, death by stoning, and "honor" killing.

The moderate imam Feisal Abdul-Rauf, who's behind the Park-51 mosque (formerly the Cordoba Project,) has stated his intent to establish Sharia in America.

In 2009 Rauf refused to sign a Freedom Pledge to protect former Muslims from death sentences sought by Shariah interpretations for Muslim apostates. Rauf is also President of the ASMA society, which is the Shariah Index Project.

Chef Mojo takes offense at the very presence of Muslims, which he calls "indecent."

"I only want the Muslim community, FOR ONE FUCKING TIME, to acknowledge that it is indecent to do this, in this way and in this time."

For one fucking time, I'd like one of you guys to wrap tour small reptilian brains around the concept that THAT is an offensive statement.

Everything is offensive to you. That's what happens when you live in perpetual victimhood.

He just comes here to masturbate.
