The color of the year.

It's turquoise:

All right, then. It's going to be like that.

So it's back to the 50's then.

That's very close to the wall color of my bedroom. Benjamin Moore called it "Palladian Blue."

Tiffany's 'little blue box' is turquoise, and who wouldn't want one of those?

If that's the color of the year, then thank God the year is almost over.

Looks more teal than turquoise to me.

This has to be a conspiracy on Pantone's part. Paint the walls of a room turquoise and think of all the pieces of furniture or rugs or bedspreads or curtains the turquoise would clash with. Clashes with yellow. Clashes with ochre. Clashes with brown. Clashes with orange. White. You'd be down to white, which would make a nice room - turquoise walls and white furniture - in South Florida.

I have a gorgeous silver belt buckle with a turquoise set in it. It's quite striking and I've gotten many compliments on it, so I'm partial to the color and the stone.

I suppose Ann is remembering the 50s, but, if I recall correctly, it was used as an accent more than a major color.

Teal is darker.

Yay! I live in South Florida! Too bad turquoise doesn't catch my eye, I'm more a lapis lazuli kind of guy.

It's supposed to evoke..."thoughts of soothing, tropical waters and a languorous, effective escape from the everyday troubles of the world, while at the same time restoring our sense of wellbeing".

I'm all for a restored sense of wellbeing, but I don't find this color soothing or restorative. It's too intense, and makes me feel like I'm being forced rather than invited to relax.

I'm concerned the chairs in my new health care provider's office will be covered in this color, in an attempt to keep me calm while I wait my turn and consider the options and expenses of my new coverage.

This doesn't work for me. Neither would teal.

Teal and turqoise aren't the same? I think the difference is the name.

Our living room is turquoise. The house was built in 1938- the previous owners had painted everything cream; many chips later thanks to kids, revealed the original color of... turquoise. We love it, and it goes great with the crimson, brown, gold and white we have in fabrics. Guess we were fairly prescient 6 years ago or the "in" color of 2009...

Doesn't salmon compliment turquoise?

Hate to bum you out, but they're announcing the color of the year for 2010. You haven't even begun to experience the turquoise.

wv: Dylan. Off-topic for this thread, but fits right in at Althouse.

Re: Lapis Lazuli, one of my favorite poems includes the line:

It may be mentioned, casually
That blue as lapis lazuli
He died his hair, his lashes
His Mustaches
and his beard

Said poem also includes the words interdicted, insalubrious and lugubrious. Loved it as a kid.

Teal and turquoise are completely different colors. Teal has much more green.

Turquoise and red is a phenomenal combination.

My living room is a lighter version, more of an aqua. It looks great with my yellow putty woodwork and Mom's silvery pink sofa. I found a maroon oriental carpet to tone everything down a bit. My grandparents first chose the woodwork color in 1922, put they had wallpaper in every room.

wv - pologra - ED drug for the saddle sore.

Tiffany's blue is lighter and much less green. See?

I like turquoise as an accent. It's ubiquitous out here in AZ.

wv: gariff. Yes, turquoise can be gariff in the wrong combination.

Don't you mean:

"It's a gay color. Surprise!"

By the way, all colors are gay, since we have the rainbow flag. Also black and white, since we have black and white parties. So even when you close your eyes or stare at the sun your environment is saturated in 100% homosexuality.
