"Yes: the heart has got to open in a fundamental way. And you can feel it happening."

"Because this is America. And the world has never needed her more."

From a list of things I'm looking forward to, post-Election Day: Andrew Sullivan will stop writing creepy stuff like that.

I wouldn't say that it's the very best reason to elect McCain, but it surely has to be fairly high on the list of motivations that if McCain wins, Andrew Sullivan's head will explode. (It will "open in a fundamental way," perhaps.)

Sullivan will find someone or something new to crush on. It's a character flaw, I fear, not conditioned by external circumstances.

Sullivan's mind is closed. Therefore, it will implode causing a blackhole sucking in all those, including Chris Mathew's thrill, who think like him. That is why Hollywood is nervous.

I hope BHO can tread water since he may not be able to walk on it.

Yes, America's heart is about to spread wide like a asshole and take a gigantic shit, a shit so large that it will tear the delicate anus ventricles, causing blood to pour fourth which will mingle with the shit... we'll finally become a nation of bleeding hearts and bleeding assholes. Let's hope the fissure and murmur both heal before we're bled to death.

A hearty thanks to that bleeding asshole Andrew Sullivan for brightening my morning with his well-considered imagery. It takes an Oxonian to write things that brilliantly embarrassing.

People read that guy's blog for what reason?

MadisonMan said...

To make fun of him?

To justify their own righteous anger?

Seriously, probably just because he's Andrew Sullivan. I still find myself visiting his blog from time to time, even though I've long since cared to read what he thinks. None of what I read there bothers me now because I don't take him seriously anymore.

How long will it be till the mob turns on President Obama? Seriously, do you really see him suceeding as a transformational figure? That will work only if he moves to the center. But if Reid, Pelosi and the rest push him left, while at the same time he expands fighting in Afghanistan, he will understand what it is like to be George Bush.

McCain on the other hand has low expectations (even from his supporters) and will naturally stay to the center. It would be nice seeing Andrew Sullivan's head explode if Mac won.

Elise said...

Um, no he won't.

If McCain wins Sullivan will spend the next 4 years writing creepy stuff about how wonderful an Obama Presidency would have been and about how American has proven (yet again) to be a sad, sad disappointment

If Obama wins Sullivan's writing will evolve:
- Between November 5 and January 20 he'll write creepy stuff about how the heart *has* opened in a fundamental way and about how America has proven herself and about all the wonderful things that will happen under the Obama Presidency.
- After January 20 he'll write creepy things about how wonderful Obama is - focusing largely on style not substance to begin with - and about how America is finally becoming what she should be.
- After a while he'll write creepy stuff about how wonderful Obama's policies are while carefully ignoring the policies that aren't so wonderful. If there are not so wonderful policies he absolutely can't ignore, he'll write creepy stuff explaining why they're not great policies but politically unavoidable and America should be grown up enough to understand that.
- After enough not so wonderful policies pile up, he'll stop writing creepy stuff and start writing sadder but wiser stuff about how Obama has proven to be (yet another) disappointment. He'll wonder why America keeps producing such disastrous Presidents.

That will get him to 2010 at which point Sarah Palin will be running for re-election as governor as Alaska so he he can go back to writing creepy stuff about her.

elise, Andrew Sullivan doesn't really do sadder but wiser. Rhapsodic crush and vituperative rage are really his only modes. What we need is a pool on the month where he switches regarding Obama.

Andrew is right - we all long to open our hearts to a just and loving society where there is no war and no poor.

The problem is that such a society requires each individual to build it bottom-up, starting by removing all contention and greed in themselves, then in their families, then neighborhoods, then outward to the communities.

We all want that, but it takes a lot of individual decipline and will power to achieve it at the community level.

However, a zion society imposed top down, using government force, (1) can only restrict freedom, (2) is inherently divisive and therefore can never survive.

I understand everyone's desire to have more kind and generous society, but we need to guard very closely against having our good desires exploited by those that want power for other nefarious reasons.

Andrew Sullivan is a vile and evil man.

His continuing obsession with Governor Palin’s gynecologic records and vile insinuations about the paternity of her disabled child should put him beyond the pale of decent society.

You would think that people who claim a feminist sensibility would be outraged and attack this vile and perverted political attack even it is on a woman of the opposing party. Yet the bar has been lowered so far that it doesn’t even merit a passing comment anymore. Could you ever imagine someone demanding a paternity test and the medical records of man pertaining to his child? I mean Grover Cleveland was a long time ago. Where is the outrage? Where are the demands that female candidates be are treated the same as a male candidates? Where is the demand for simple human decency in political discourse?

It’s not here.

Let’s keep talking about this vile and evil man. What he thinks is oh so very important.

Trooper, it looks like he's about to be rewarded for slinging his filth. It worked. Brace yourself for at least 2 years of these people in complete control of your destiny.

Is it just me, or is the rest of the world in for a big disappointment, even if Obama wins? Because so much of what people think about him seems to be a lot more emotive projection than anything else, and reality is always a bit of a letdown when compared to fantasy.

I think he's talking about a different body part opening up.

Of the Pelosi, Reid, Obama triumvirate, Reid seems the most substantial. I certainly hope Harry starts eating better. As it stands now, he is a thin Reid on which to hang the hopes of this nation.

I still haven't been back to Sullivan's blog since the day I said I no longer would go there, within the first couple-so days after the Palin announcement. Reading just Althouse's excerpt and these comments confirms that its absence in my line-up is no loss.

That really is creepy, isn't it? My heart goes out to all of the humans that have been harmed by this piece of filth, and it's been done in my name. A democrat would have been trashed for handling the presidency the way this douchebag has, not a hint of empathy in sight.

Professor Althouse voted for him, so her defense of him shall continue. Obviously.

Two weeks ago, Palin’s campaign told several reporters traveling with the campaign that a summary of the governor’s medical history would be made public before election day.
Reporters were told that details on Palin’s medical background would be released early last week. Last Thursday, after that timeframe had passed, a campaign aide backed off the previous pledge, saying the campaign wasn’t sure when the information would be released.
John McCain, Barack Obama and Joseph Biden have all provided details about their medical history.

Sullivan may be over-excited about Obama's imminent landslide victory, but he shares that excitement with many millions of Americans. Watch how blue that map will be painted tomorrow!

Me? I just think Obama is the better choice from what's gonna be on my ballot, and I hope he ends up being a good prez.

They should just agree to be president on alternate days.

The oval office could be divided in half.

Each one could try to create a mess each day for the other one to have to deal with the following day, hiding the other guy's papers, and trying to make him look bad.

It could be a TV show, like the Truman Show. Very popular, I should think.

And meanwhile, they could go on and on running to be president, until the end of time, but meanwhile, doing a time-share.

Anyone else think the best thing that could happen to BHO is to lose tomorrow?

Actually, that's true for McCain, too.

Please show me where Obama's medical records are located... or his scholastic records are located... or his work history records are located.

Did he receive any "college loans" or get an "affirmative action" scholarship- or did his "typical white middle-class grandma" pay the full tuition for an education at Columbia and Harvard?

I wouldn't say that it's the very best reason to elect McCain, but it surely has to be fairly high on the list of motivations that if McCain wins, Andrew Sullivan's head will explode.

I am an 'libertarian' Ohioan who hasn't voted for a Major party candidate since Reagan 84. In November 2004, I voted Badnarek (in Ohio!). I voted against GWB in 2004 solely because of Bush's non-veto on "McCain-Feingold".

I also said I would positively vote Hillary over McCain in 2008 when it was assumed they were the favorites after 2004.

That said-- I'm voting McCain tomorrow simply to watch the moonbats cry! (Also, because Bob Barr has NEVER been a "libertarian"- he's simply a wingnut Repub collecting some extra money for his retirement).
