Right now CA is 43D-9R. (D+34)
The proposed map makes it 48D-4R (D+44)

CA is expected to lose four seats after the 2030 census.

To maintain D+44 the map has to be 46D-2R. No independent commission will approve that. The precedent to sidestep the commission has been set. CA's Senate & Assembly will again put forward maps to be voted on in 2031 for the 2032 election.; 8/22/25, 8:30 PM

Jaq said...: I watch a lot of geopolitical analysis, and I think that most of them use the old weatherman's rule to be right more often than not without having to think. "Today's weather is going to be just like yesterday's weather." Of course it misses trends like the seasons, or significant events that signal real change, but it is comforting for people to always believe that they are right, and no matter what happens, it can be made to fit into their worldview, into which they are heavily invested, until one day it no longer does.

I have no idea what Trump is doing in Ukraine, for example. One thing that worries me is his talk of "security guarantees" to Ukraine. How did the UK drag its population into WWI with Germany, which the elites wanted? By providing innocent sounding security guarantees to poor little Belgium, while telling its people that it would not agree to defend France in the war everybody could see coming, and when Germany attacked France through Belgium, the UK got the war with Germany, on France's side.

But I am sure that the British newspapers were full of reporting claiming that Britain had been innocently dragged into the war.; 8/22/25, 8:33 PM
RCOCEAN II said...: Decided to rewatch "marathon Man" starring Dustin Hoffman. One of my Teenage favorites. Cant remember if I saw it on TV or on VHS in the early 80s. But I was blown away. The evil Nazi. Hangdog Hoffman who a teenage boy could relate to. Woo, so dark and gritty. And that dentist drill!

And on re-watch. What a ridiculous mess. Plot holes you could march a regiment of SS camp guards through.
Somehow a JFK-look alike CIA agent is in league with some Nazi who lives in South America. Both want to get a suitcase full of diamonds. And somehow "Babe" aka Dustin Hoffman is the only one who can stop them. He has a brother who's also in CIA, and a father who died because Joe McCarthy was mean to him, and there's a beautiful Euro babe whos with the Nazis but then Hoffman goes to bed with her, and ala James Bond she changes side.

Hey, if it works for sean Connery it can work for Dustin.

There's lot of running and double crossing and finally "Babe" shoots the nazis and leaves those "Dirty Diamonds" in the water. Guess the sewage plant had a slew of retirement the next day.

Good acting. Some nice action scenes. Love the 70s vibe. But the whole story makes zero sense.; 8/22/25, 8:33 PM

And Trump, if guilty of statutory rape, had a lot of reasons NOT to bring Bondi, Bongino, and Patel on board. Doesn't it make more sense to conclude that Trump himself is not guilty?
