One squirrel is all it takes. At 9:15 this morning, from my recliner, I heard loud pop at the utility pole outside the window. I look up and see an object fall to ground. Generator automatically kicks on. I walk outside to investigate expecting to find a piece of transformer on the ground. Instead it’s a cooked squirrel.
Called the electric company. They arrive and check things out. The squirrel bit something on the transformer which popped the breaker up the hill and shut down electric to 13 customers on my dirt road. One squirrel.

The woman in that video is a small-scale real estate developer and she doesn’t hesitate to provide some useful ideas on the way to speed the effort up and do it safely. She also mentions that the people in the burned-out areas are by-and-large the type of voters who put these inept Democrats in charge and what a golden opportunity it will soon be to make a sea change in the state’s leadership.

David Gergen lived a nice, long life. My only beef with him was his assertion he was a "Reagan Republican" - which is what he was constantly described on in the "McNeil Leher report". That is until he left to join the Clinton white house!

My 2016 HP laptop's cooling fan has been making increasingly loud and sustained grinding noises for several months. It triggered a warning when booting up. I finally broke down and ordered a new one via The Portal because I was afraid it could fail any minute. The new one arrived yesterday, and since I fired it up, the old one hasn't made a sound.
It reminds me how the year after I had one pecan tree taken down, an older tree on the other side of the house had nuts for the first time in at least 50 years.
Did you watch the video, Full Moon? The developer talks about how she was trying to find a way to clear away debris faster and safer. She wrote a paper and sent it to Newscum. Nothing. No response. After trying multiple avenues in California, she sends it to RFK Jr. who sends it to Lee Zeldin that immediately acts on it.
Newscum is more interested in protecting pot farm use of modern day slavery than helping home owners clear their land and get permits to rebuild. Trump had the Army Corps of Engineers there to help with debris removal, and they did over 6,000 homes for those that opted in. But that ended June 1st, because it has to end some time. They extended it 3 months longer than originally budgeted. This video is explaining how now the federal help has ended, and California still isn’t stepping up to help its residents.

In re RCO's scared-straight pecan tree, I am at present struggling with a vent hood with lights that flash in a slow strobe just until I call the appliance repair shop and schedule repair, then stop. So then I have to cancel the repair, because what's the use of paying a diagnostic fee for a problem they won't be able to diagnose because it's not happening, and then the flashing starts again.

I had to replace my overhead kitchen fl. fixture when the ballast went bad, but I didn't look terribly hard for a replacement part. I prefer 2700k LED light anyway. Jamie, the lights under the hood to see what’s cooking, or the lights on the fan-light control buttons? One of my vent hood control buttons on the front of the hood will strobe on off to indicate the filter may need cleaning. To turn off that strobe reminder, I just have to hold the control button 3-5 seconds to reset it. It’s basically just signaling the amount of time it’s been used since last reset. It’s not actually indicating the filter is too clogged up in my case, so cleaning is optional ;).

LED lights to see what's cooking on my Zline hood I have thoroughly cleaned the baffles (well, the dishwasher has) and there are no lit control buttons, just metal button-buttons, though I did see online that this strobing can be an indicator that "the filter needs cleaning" in some hoods - but as I said, this hood doesn't have a filter, just baffles.
I am particularly annoyed because we're putting our house on the market in three weeks and I have enough projects to deal with!

@Big Mike, electricity was my least favorite party of physics - if all 4 bulbs are flashing simultaneously, do you suppose that's likely to indicate a single-bulb failure that, because they're LEDs, just happens to make all connected bulbs flash? Or a control failure?
And I am ESPECIALLY particularly annoyed because this hood was a COVID-Era purchase, the last thing to be replaced in our spectacularly poorly timed kitchen remodel (my husband also lost his job right after we started demoing!), and we had to take what was available or wait God only knew how long with no venting. For those that claim to care about warnings, more flash flood warnings in the same area of Texas right now.
Much of the new rainfall is north, with the Lampasas River (close to Killeen) now expecting to do the 30ft jump. However, the Guadalupe at Hunt is rising to 15ft. Between Guadalupe and Lampasas is the Colorado River and San Gabriel Rivers.
Lake Travis (Colorado River) has risen 25ft since July 3rd. Canyon Lake (Guadalupe) has risen 22ft in that time. Both have about another 20ft to reach nominal full pool, which tells you how drought stricken the area has been prior to these storms.

I work all over that state and seeing as how I’m dealing with serious business people it’s obvious…and heartbreaking.
