Trump has conceded that his Epstein avoidance strategy isn't going to work, so he's promised to release the Epstein List.

He thinks that's what we all want. A list of pedophiles.

That he hasn't arrested.

He thinks that's going to work.

You could write Joe Biden's book based on his own comments in the public record and beat him to publication. Lots about Corn Pop and Uncle Bosie and dad staring up at the ceiling and Ambrose Finnegan at Santa Clara. Not much about Biden's legislative or presidential achievements, but how much is there to tell really?
*
I'd love to see a Graham Greene explore the "Our Man in Havana" side of the Epstein case. Jeffrey Epstein convinces billionaires to subsidize his lifestyle by boasting of his intelligence connections. Then he gets intelligence agencies to subsidize his set-up based on his billionaire connections. I'd suppose Robert Maxwell operated in a similar fashion.

Newsmax has begun referring to Ghislaine Maxwell as “a victim.” ~ Greg Kelly Report

Just like the J6 insurrectionists suddenly became “political prisoners” and victims that had to be pardoned. Maxwell will be pardoned and child molesters will be normalized within MAGA.

Yes Greene did show that British intelligence, was less like Flemings Bond but more like LeCarre's lamplighters,
in fact, one might say the Whole Steele dossier was the Wormuld sham, less often you have the sort of legitimate reveal of Hitchcock's Topaz,

why are we skeptical, because the claims about Maxwell came from Ari Ben Menashe, a walter mitty type that first surfaced in the October Surprise sham, then handed out morsels to Sy Hersh, and from there is the story of Ghislaine Maxwell, who did seem to have a Gatsby like way of attaching herself to important people

Patience and Astrid dragged out the plot. They keep filming people walking - to their car to the building walking walking walking. I had to keep fast forwarding. Careful reading of the documents released by Ratcliffe and Gabbard over the past month reveals the following:. The ICA report says Putin made his decision to intervene in the US elections in “the summer of 2016” (pp. 84 and 88) and the CIA Note says “July” (p.3). For Putin’s hopeful aspirations to become countings of future election wins, the Russians needed a willing Trump campaign to take advantage of the prior hacks and stolen data. Two dates from that summer of 2016 stand out about the Trump campaign’s willingness to turn Putin’s aspirations into countings: June 9, when Don Jr, Jared Kushner, and Paul Manafort met the Russians at Trump Tower, and the July 27 news conference, when Trump said, “Russia, if you are listening. . .”

Since it's after midnight, we can talk about Worldle 1497 from yesterday (7/25), which may have been the hardest one ever. I have a small group of friends that share our scores for the day, and we had two 6's and two X/6's on GOFER. It was one of those tough guess-a-letter ones, and we all got the _O_ER pretty quickly, but the last two letters offered a LOT of possibilities. I got it in six by playing PLUMB and FUDGY on words 4 and 5. I wasn't going to try guessing the _O_ER words on 4 and 5; I just tried to find the missing letters by playing words with lots of consonants I hadn't already used.

Ann Althouse said...

@Clyde I lost my Wordle streak yesterday. I always play in "hard" mode, so I can't use that method of eliminating letters. I thought of "gofer" but didn't think it was much of a word, so on my last guess I went with "joker." Clearly a real word, a normal word. I feel betrayed.

Do MAGA followers really still believe the WSJ has not seen a copy of Epstein's birthday book? They've run quotes from a number of other people's letters from the book -- did they supposedly make all those up, too?

Hardin and Eva, ref Patience:

- Yes, the aspie girl in Bridge was very assertive and independent. Took the initiative in sex, etc. Patience is just a whimpering panican at the slightest nudge out of her comfort zone. Even her support-group leader also melts as soon as something is outside his experience. The two of them are reduced to fetality when a bad guy holds them at gunpoint; I would think real Asperger people would logic or aspie-rage their way out of the situation. Maybe the shows taken together demonstrate that the 'spectrum' really is a spectrum?

- Rockford had one-third the ad money in America for each episode. Lord knows what convoluted route gets money to Patience, but it's certainly nowhere near the same amount. "walks to car" takes fewer man-hours to write than the equivalent screen time of dialogue. The savings add up.

I accidentally read a Kak post. I almost always skip them, for obvious reasons.

1) Wrong question. They have a journalistic obligation to show us the letter. “Trust us” doesn’t fly.
2) Nobody has disputed that the book exists. Questioning one unsupported claim does not create a requirement to question all unsupported claims. It’s not hypocritical to simply care less about some than about others.

Ref Trump and hoaxes. The journalist marching orders have gone out to tease Trump with this word, the way they did with "wiretap." They are trying to confuse people. What Trump and all sincere thinking people mean is:

- In 2017, RussiaRussiaRussia was a hoax because Trump is not a pawn of Russia and all evidence to that effect was fabricated. In 2025, Trump's investigation of RussiaRussiaRussia is not a hoax, because the evidence-fabrication really happened.

- For most of the 2000's, Epstein's crimes were not a hoax, because he and his buddies really diddled late-teen girls. In 2025, implying Trump was one of the diddlers is the hoax.

In neither case is Trump changing his mind on any underlying facts. Despite Nicole Wallace et al gllefully reciting "RussiaRussiaRussia was a hoax in 2017, and suddenly it's not!?"

Reminds me of the Springfield Elementary kids saying Lisa Simpson wants to marry a tree.

Gadfly, ref Golden Dome:

- Like Star Wars, the psychological effect alone will help against nation-state adversaries. Kind of like your border analogy: Trump hasn't magicked a wall into existence in six months, but his policies have cut illegal entry down to near-zero.

- We are behind on hypersonic missiles and the defense against them, thanks in no small part to the focus on DEI and LGBTQRSTUVWXYZ in the military. The righties are also to blame for rules that ossify us into 20th-century military-industrial policy. Something must be done.

- Maybe they should be called hypersexual missiles. Trump could make AI videos featuring Freddie Mercury prancing about with the missile at his crotch, like he used to do with his mike stand. And maybe rename Golden Dome into Pleasure Dome: make a new version of the Frankie "Two Tribes" video? That would get both sides motivated. MAGA is not anti-gay; it's pro- the kind of gays who do useful stuff, like the Village People and Tom of Finland portrayed.

Narciso: yes, Black Bag is a gem. Peacock served it up to me the other day. Visually rich, and more like a drawing-room drama than a spy film. Some plot silliness: NFW spies talk about work in their homes, way too many people getting killed for even the most skilled, pathological operators to hide, etc. But one suspends disbelief because of the overall quality.

Everything Patience could have been.

"...Dumb Don is proceeding to begin spending preliminarily $151 billion for a....." He's not very smart, eh? Just think of how much high-speed rail he could have for that, amirite? Why, look at Ravishing Gavin's success story, out there in California ! For only $36 billion, he'll connect two smallish cities nearish to big cities, with a line that nobody wants to use - and so far he's got a section of bridge, no rail yet, no trains. Yeah, that Trump. So stoopid.

Agree with Tim Maguire. Whether or not WaPO has something they call a “Epstein Birthday book” is as relevant as Obama’s ICA had a Steele Dossier or CBS had a document from someone that served in Texas ANG. It is an argument from fallacy just as Botfly’s attempt to suggest the border isn’t secure because it lacks a wall and that is somehow related to air defense. How many people are crossing our border this summer vs a year ago?

Trump should sanction any Canadian, Aus/NZ, or British bank that takes part in the persecution of lawyers for defending right-wing clients. Cut them off completely from the American market. The left wing scum who run those countries will be forced to kowtow.

We really need to do more to protect our cousins in the Anglosphere from some of the most evil and worthless governments on the planet. We should treat the likes of Starmer and Carney as actual enemies of the nation, and work to overthrow them like we did the Communists before them.
