"I didn’t realize how formal the court really is. I kind of thought when justices go into conference they let their hair down a little bit — no."
Said Ketanji Brown Jackson, quoted in "Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson says she fears for U.S. democracy/The justice has emerged as one of the court’s sharpest critics, issuing more dissents than any colleague during the Supreme Court term that ended last month."

Easily the least intelligent of the Justices.
If "let down their hair" means "undo your braids" -- racism.
"Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson says she fears for U.S. democracy..."
That's what happens when judges base their rulings on how they think things should be, not on what the law actually says.
She doesn't have the mindset for this job. In fact, she may not have the mind for this job.

At this point, I'm beginning to believe that she really doesn't know how to define a woman.
You gotta love the WaPo headline tag "The justice has emerged as one of the court’s sharpest critics, issuing more dissents than any colleague during the Supreme Court term that ended last month."
Recently, she has twice been told in majority opinions that she should learn to follow the law not her whims. But instead of something like "The justice has emerged as the court’s dimmest intellects, issuing more dissents divorced from reality than any colleague during the Supreme Court term that ended last month.", they try to shore her up with a puff piece on how much of an "out of the box" thinker she is.
Jurisprudence dies in media darkness.
I fear for the Democracy too, when Justice Jackson and Judge Talwani ignore the wishes of Democratically elected representatives for their own appointed powers.
Translation: Socialism is on its last legs. It has nothing left but murder and terrorism.
Some dim people question what harm can come from elevating people based on identity group. Imagine there were 4 more like her on the SC. I get no pleasure from saying this, but the truth matters: the bottom 3 intellects on the SC are all women, and none of them would be there if they were men. There are plenty of women capable of excelling at this responsibility, but Democrats would never pick them, because they don't want smart jurisprudence.
What an absolute disgrace. She did her little skit on Broadway and should've stayed there. However it goes down, I hope her term is brief.
KBJ was Biden's biggest FU to the American people, one we may have to be cursed with for some time.
KBJ: I Write Supreme Court Opinions To ‘Tell People How I Feel’
Good grief. Her feelings shouldn't have any more bearing on the topic than how any of the other 350M of us feel. Where does she get the idea that her 'feelings' are pertinent?
they asked her: "do you have any idea what you're doing?"
and she replied: Don't judge me! i'm not one of those!!!"
She seems dumb.

to be fair, these three PERFECTLY Understand what their responsibility is.. To do EXACTLY what they are told to do.
They're like Joe Biden; they are Perfect Democrats
The descriptor "sharpest" does not belong in any sentence describing Brown Jackson...
Jackson says she fears for U.S. democracy
Such a platitude. Does she even realize that?
Everyone knows that dumb people need someone in government like them or it is not fair.
That’s why Beiden appointed her.
This women is the cherry on top of the calamitous QuidProJoe regime. She will be an embarrassment to the Court for years to come.
"I never realized the police are so -- military!"
"She will be an embarrassment to the Court for years to come."
I wouldn't sell her short here. She'll be embarrassing more than just the court.
Very like a comment Megan Markle made about the royal family.
The SCOTUS is by definition and by design anti-democratic. Indirect appointment, lifetime tenure, etc, etc - specifically set up to cool down popular (ie democratic) passions. The Framers had seen the excesses of both Crown (too beholden to the executive) and local (too beholden to the mob) courts and crafted a system to navigate right down the middle.
Madame Justice, you are not there to do anything democratic!

Old man rick: "But instead of something like "The justice has emerged as the court’s dimmest intellects, issuing more dissents divorced from reality than any colleague during the Supreme Court term that ended last month...."
Even the WaPo was afraid writing that would unleash an epidemic of "Hold my beer" from the other justices.

If she can't understand the legalese, her fear is valid.
Ketanji doesn't realize that Supreme Court conferences where the Justices discuss the cases before them--and try to get other Justices to agree with their of issues--are not just another Saturday morning discussion at the barbershop down in the 'hood. There the biggest loud mouth wins the argument. Have to up your game girl if you are going to run with the Justices.

Congress: Mrs. Jackson, what is a woman?
KBJ: I'm not sure...I don't understand the legalese.
I think that the Post is referring to her in the Joe Biden, sharp as a tack sense, not the normal sense or has the meaning of sharp been forever altered?
The scariest part is she's dumber and than a bag of hammers even with the support of the clerks, probably because she picked clerks dumber than herself. Not sure how that's possible, unless of course she scooped up randoms off skid row.
..."The justice has emerged as one of the court’s sharpest critics...."
Somebody in the press pool had a tough time trying to work out a way to associate that adjective with this subject.
Didn’t she receive her J.D. from Harvard Law cum laude? Kind of cheapens the degrees of the rest of Harvard Law grads, doesn’t it? The minority ones at least.
I get that her IQ has fewer than three digits, but is it clear that the first digit is even a ‘9’?
'Formal', I guess that means they actually discuss the law, Constitution, and how that relates to the facts of the case instead of just how to justify a result that advances the Democrat priorities for today.
KJ5: “I just feel that I have a wonderful opportunity to tell people, in my opinions, how I feel about the issues, and that’s what I try to do.
Ketani Jackson Five actually said this stupid shit.
Her opportunity isn't to interpret the laws as written and passed by the Congress, and to decide if the government is violating the US Constitution or not.
No, her job is all about how she feels. She has the opportunity to tell people her opinion about how she feels on the issues.
This low-IQ bint thinks we give two fucks about how she feels about things.
Listen here, Ms. Five ... we don't give a crap how you feel about any aspect of American life. Stay in your lane, Felicia.
Sadly, none of the usual leftys here can somehow twist things to make it seem she is competent.
Still early though. Perhaps they will come up with something.
Old MBA saying. “A managers put in A people. B managers put in C and D subordinates.” Ketanji Brown Jackson Is partial proof that Joe Biden was at most a C.
Exhibit 1, Affirmative Action Mismatch
"None of the usual leftys here can somehow twist things to make it seem she is competent.
That's because she was put there to look incompetent.
Joe Biden is a racist. He believes black people are inferior. And he appointed Ketani Jackson Five to prove this to Americans.
You have to remember: Biden's best buddy in the US Senate was literally an Exalted Cyclops in the Ku Klux Klan. He gave the guy's eulogy at his funeral. That's how close they were.
MANY fries short of a 'Happy Meal'. My grandfather was a district judge for 28 years ... been dead for 50 years, but his wisdom still inspires me.
Jackson has me looking for a barf bag, not for her politics, but because she is so pathologically stupid, unlike Sotomayor and Kagan, who are obvious lefties.
She’s another Marxist at heart.
The empress justice wears no robes.
Marxist a.k.a. DEIst or class-disordered ideologue.
The justice who supports a judicial coup against the POTUS and ignores the constitution, precedent, and the plain meaning of the law "Fears for Democracy".
Of course to Jackson and all leftists "democracy" is a code word for "Rule by the Liberal/left Establishment". That's why an authoritarian like Zelensky who censors the press, bans opposition parties, cancels elections, and closes down Churches, is "Fighting for Democracy" while Putin is a "Evil Dictator".
If Biden throws 1000 J6ers in jail for Tresspassing and parading in the Capital - that's "Democracy". If Trump tries to jail people who burn down federal buildings, and attack ICE agents that's "Authoritarianism".
Black is white, up is down.
Yikes! Does she really not get that her stupidity is on display for the whole country to see? She seems better suited for the ridiculous conversations in the liberal faculty lounge than the SC. Wonder if the rest of the justices have heard from her it’s racist if she has to do stuff the other justices had to do when they were the newest member?
"Does she really not get that her stupidity is on display for the whole country to see? "
I suspect she's been told her whole life she's brilliant. I doubt she's capable of self-assessment.
This is the third article I've seen in as many days designed to prop her up. Someone must have hired a PR firm on her behalf.
I guess calling her "Stupid" lets you avoid the fact that Kagan and Sotomayor vote with her 95 percent of the time. And if they were still on the court, so would "smart" Breyer and Ginsberg.
She doesn’t sound happy there. She’s intellectually incapable of doing the job and the other justices are making fun of her. She should resign, but she won’t.
She really isn't a "critic," as that term implies critical though and reasoned rebuttal to the majority opinions. She is much more like an MSNBC talking head, talking about feelings and alleged facts (really simple-minded conclusions) that were never presented in court. She gets to read the majority opinion before it is released, yet she never offers an analysis of why she thinks it is wrong, other than broad personal policy preference.
"She should resign, but she won’t."
She'll just accuse them of racism. That works 100% of the times they try it.
She'll just accuse them of racism. That works 100% of the times they try it.
It's starting not to. She's not stupid because of her skin color. She's stupid because she's stupid.
"I kind of thought when justices go into conference they let their hair down a little bit — no."
I guess it's reassuring that the other eight take their job seriously.
I would guess that some of her problem is that she was never informed of her limitations as she was pushed along, so what she is getting now is going to be a shock to her, which people like her always blame on racism. The truth is that a white justice who wrote the same things would get it from both sides instead of just one.
The fact that Jackson is so often in dissent tells me our democracy has some life left in it.
I had a colleague that whenever someone said to him "I feel" he'd interrupt to say "I don't care what you feel; tell me what you think."
The descriptor "sharpest" does not belong in any sentence describing Brown Jackson...
The sharpest thing about are her fingernails.

Yep, i'm sure that SHE Actually thinks (well FEELS) that she is "smart".
In Fact, i'd bet that she feels that She is the SMARTEST in the room.. I'll bet she's been told that HER WHOLE LIFE..
and those racist bastards that kept getting better grades than her?
What MORE Proof do you Need? of the Systemic RACISM in amerikkka?
If Trump hadn't beaten Hillary, then the Supreme Court would have a liberal majority.
What KBJ doesn't know is that there is a secret meeting where the real work gets accomplished and she's not invited.
"If Trump hadn't beaten Hillary, then the Supreme Court would have a liberal majority.
And if Hillary Clinton hadn't help execute a coup against Richard Nixon, she'd have been President and we would have a liberal majority.
Typical of our politic. Lectured by the dumbest rockin the bin. Atlas definitely shrugged vibe with this one.
If Trump had not defeated Hillary she would have been chief justice. That is why the Hillary Clinton for President National review can never be forgiven.
Stop digging.
KBJ is doing exactly what she needs to do. Her stupidity glows so brightly you can see it from space.
She is going to do to The Democrats, who pretend to be judges and leftist judiciary in general, what Joe Biden did to Democrats on the national political level.
Achilles wins the thread. Add in the Left's insanity about trans and the GOP controls the federal government for the next 30 years.
Her claim to be surprised by the Court's formality seems dishonest to me. She worked as a clerk for Justice Stephen G. Breyer during the 1999 Term. Is she saying that during that year she never learned about the nature of the interplay among the Justices? Unbelievable.
"Y'know, this was supposed to be my weekend off, but noooo. You got me out here draggin' your heavy ass through the burnin' desert ... with your dreadlocks stickin' out ... You gotta come down here with an attitude, actin' all big and bad ... I could've been at a barbecue!" - Captain Steven Hiller
The Kamala Harris of judges.
Dumb but reliable was why she was appointed.
Clearly she was born yesterday.
@Ampersand, by golly you’re right! She clerked for Breyer in 1999-2000 yet claims not to have known how Supreme Court justices interact when in conference?!? As you say, unbelievable. This is the first implication I’ve ever seen that clerking for a Supreme Court justice might be a no-show job.
@Big Mike said "Didn’t she receive her J.D. from Harvard Law cum laude? Kind of cheapens the degrees of the rest of Harvard Law grads, doesn’t it? The minority ones at least."
Can you imagine being a prof in the Harvard Law School and realizing that if you gave this person anything less than an A, she would probably scream racist. For this reason, I don't put too much weight on the cum laude.
She belongs on The View. She doesn't belong on the Supreme Court.
No one who supported Roe, or Lawrence v Texas, or Windsor, or Obergefell, gets to pretend to care about "U.S. Democracy".
It's embarrassing what a lying dirtbag she is turning into
Wow, as of this moment, 77 comments over seven hours, and not one lefty has risen to defend her.
Proves they are racist and misogynist at heart.
The quoted statement seems odd coming from a former Breyer clerk. The Anglophile is about as formal as they come. But folks here are blinded by their ideology to her abilities. I had a case before her as a district judge. She was very impressive, and ruled against me, on grounds the other side did not promote. She and her clerks did all the work themselves.

Or althouse has unintentionally cultivated a cast of commenters here that doesn't represent America and is not going to tell you the future of our nation...
There are more Ketanji Jacksons than althouse meades in this country. Open your eyes and consider this is not a bad thing for the country...
The wealthy whites had their time of power: look at what they did and where we are... Jon and Chris inherited the future from a single mum. Truth be old, if we were competitive the UW Blu Gold and the waiter would not be where they are... We need leaders not mama's boys and girlie girls being put into their positions by ladies who just think theirs are the best and of course they have succeeded. Lol.
Roll em them sleeves, we gots work to do. Real work in this country. Don't blame the immigrants and trans people. Look in the mirror, boomers before you run off to play another game?
"We hate black people. They are inferior to white men with penis!" It's like you could just close the threads now. These comments will write themselves. Ann, would you spend time with these minds at a dinner party? Dave Begley... really? I think these are the guys you lock your door from and thank you you have meade for. But here you've welcomed them...
I guess it makes you look smart hanging around this... ?
The Kamala Harris of judges.
She's way smarter than Kamala. Not even close.
Intellectually, the Supreme Court is top tier among the three branches of government. There are numerous people in the House and Senate who are dumber than Jackson.
Historically, she is probably most similar to the Irishman, Justice Frank Murphy.
When Colorado tried to keep Donald Trump off the ballet, it was a 9-0 rebuke. Which means that she's smarter than the state of Colorado.
Also, if she was a dumb Republican, we would love her.
"Sharpest critic?"
Ya really wanna go with that one?
Scalia would, when needed, criticize Brennan (and others like Anthony Kennedy) for wanting to legislate from the bench. He'd reminded Brennan that the Court's role was to solely interpret the law. Perhaps he''s agree with Brennan if the two of them were legislators, he'd state, but not in their present function.
Law review article, JUSTICE SCALIA AND THE RULE OF LAW: ORIGINALISM VS. THE LIVING CONSTITUTION,
https://www.regent.edu/acad/schlaw/student_life/studentorgs/lawreview/docs/issues/v29n1/9_Duncan_vol_29_1.pdf
This Ketanji character is of an entirely different stripe, "Constitution? What Constitution? Limits? What limits?"
Trump v. Anderson
There are many, many people on the left who would have said that Colorado can keep Trump off the ballet, that's fine. I'm happy that we have a court where nine people can put the law before politics, and squash people who need to be squashed.
I fear for our democracy, too, by the way. But what I notice, as a Republican, is how much of this anti-democratic rage is on the left now.
Politically, it's a 6-3 Court, with six Republicans and three Democrats. We're living in very partisan times, so we'll probably see quite a number of 6-3 opinions, with the predictable line-up.
I dislike those 6-3 opinions, and I'd like to see many more opinions that shift the votes around. It's often a victory for jurisprudence, or some other non-partisan reason.
It's not always a happy outcome, of course. Burger (Republican) gave Roe v. Wade to Blackmun (Republican). And the whole experience of being called a baby-killer turned Blackmun into a whiny liberal for the rest of his days.
What should worry Jackson is that she is starting off with that 6-3 mold. And she's going in the wrong direction. First she loses Kagan. And then she loses Sotomayor. It's hard enough to convince two people in the opposite party that you're right. You might want to rethink things if you can't convince two people in your own party that you're right.
She's probably decided, as people do, that she doesn't want to be wrong and win cases. She'd rather be right and lose the battle. But if you want to convince law students and future judges and Justices, you need to have a jurisprudence that people can rally around. You don't want to be like Justice Stevens and just masturbate around in your own field of inquiry.
Also, when you have a jurisprudence, as Hugo Black did, and Felix Frankfurter, and John Marshall Harlan, you are much more likely to adhere to that. None of those men would have signed on to Roe v. Wade. Black and Frankfurter were both liberals put on the Court by FDR. Frankfurter was actually a Harvard professor (!) and co-founded the ACLU (!!), so many minds were blown when he fought for judicial restraint and allowing democracy to solve our problems. The Black-Frankfurter blue-on-blue fights were legendary. Black got so mad he tried to strangle Frankfurter one time.
Put one pro-life Republican on the Supreme Court ("I know what a person is") and we'll see a similar civil war on the red team. That's how you shake up that damn 6-3 mold.
You don't want your epitaph to be, Smacked Down by Sotomayor
"I agree with Justice Jackson that the President cannot restructure federal agencies in a manner inconsistent with congressional mandates," Sotomayor wrote. "Here, however, the relevant Executive Order directs agencies to plan reorganizations and reductions in force ‘consistent with applicable law’ … and the resulting joint memorandum from the Office of Management and Budget and Office of Personnel Management reiterates as much."
Ouch!
She's the Meghan Markle of Karine Jean-Pierres. I can't stand Mitch McConnell but if not for his maneuvering on the Merrick Garland situation we'd be cooked.
Big Mike @ 3:14
Ooooo. That's gonna leave a mark.

So ...congratulations, simp?
Man watching the ball game on TV. Wife walks in, "What's the score?"
"4-3"
"Who's ahead?"
"4"
6-3? Not ideal, I'd agree. But in the end, 6 still wins. Lots of professional playoff series go the full seven games. Only the team with the four wins is listed as the champ.
Apparently nobody ever told her she wasn't supposed to go full retard.
