We're told "Her husband, Ethan Frankcamp, said the cause of death was suicide."
“From a young age,” Mr. Frankcamp said of Ms. Raines in a tearful 12-minute video that he posted on Instagram on June 23 to to announce her death, “she dedicated every waking hour of her life to helping them, whether it was helping a snapping turtle cross the road or saving 500 foxes from a terrible fur farm. She was never in it for fame, money or personal gain.”...
Mr. Frankcamp said in an interview that he believed Ms. Raines had succumbed to the stress of a combination of factors: the demands of operating her animal rescue sanctuary, mental health issues and negative online comments about her that “piled up.” Without offering specifics, Mr. Frankcamp said he believed that the cyberbullying “all stems from jealousy of maybe people in the same line of work that weren’t successful with it, or weren’t able to expand.”

In the end she abandoned them. It's a shame she wasn't helped somehow. Most suicide is incredibly selfish.
She seemed happy the day before.

"YouTube creator Mikayla Raines and her husband, Ethan Frankamp, uploaded a new video one day before her death was announced.
In the Sunday, June 22, Instagram video, Frankamp shared a glimpse of their home life, which included an animal running loose in their house.
I've known quite a number of "rescue" women over my course of years. They're unavoidable in the microcosm of dog shows and equine sports, and there's isn't a more neurotic gaggle of frazzled self-absorbed do gooders to be found anywhere. I'm quite surprised they aren't self-destructing every day, raining down like cherry blossoms in April.
I read about that. So young and a wife and mother to boot. A damned shame.
Duty is as heavy as a mountain.
Death is as light as a feather.
There's a reason why veterinarians have such a high suicide rate. RIP.
The "burden" of self. RIP
Questor is right, Neurotic's do gooders who always think they are right. She did a deal to get 500 foxes and did not have the facilities to handle them.
What does the rescue of 500 farm-bred foxes look like, other than an absurd treadmill of feeding caged animals that cannot be released into the wild without grievously hazarding the natural balance nor tamed into reliably harmless companion animals. 500 additional pelts for winter hats and collars seems the only reasonable course available.

Not unless Ethan Frankcamp is the entire animal rescue community. We only have his word for any of this spaghetti on the wall.
Spot on Quaestor. I'm sure she found her "calling" noble. But she damned hundreds of animals to a horrible life.
The unPlanned animals can be manged following progressive principles under Planned Pethood (PP) aligned with People for the Euthanasia of Throwaway Animals (PETA). Are they still a viable incorporation? Issue a liberal license to abort.
Suicide is always tragic. No one knows what was going on inside her mind when she made her final move. It is a violation of all that is good in the world to kill yourself, but not difficult to understand. It's better than killing other people.
I'm a little surprised to see that these are some of the best comments I've seen on Althouse recently.
Is life too heavy?
will you be free...
If you ever find yourself in Colorado - the most amazing animal rescue resides on the eastern plains. acres and acres.
I met the owner many years ago. Pat Craig. Good man.
The real nightmare stories of many large animals prior to rescue, is heartbreaking. Many kept in small cages, starved.. etc.
He sets the standard for how to do it. I know nothing about fox rescue.
People suck.
A pleasant little fox rescue film, FWIW, safe for children:

Fur coats are so lame. Like cigarettes or meth.
“Sorry, not sorry.”—every chicken in the world.
Fur coats are very warm. Ask any Inuit.
rusty -that Inuit didn't buy it for fashion. He killed it and skinned it himself.
The highest suicide rate by far is among legal citizen construction workers, who have seen monied interests in both political parties sacrifice their livelihood to illegals.
This narcissist was just another ersatz Grizzly Man.
The lack of empathy is a bit startling on this thread.
The Russians have domesticated foxes, but they are holding on to them. Someday, though, your canines and felines may have a vulpine companion.

Wear the fox hat!
Tox screen...
I have notice that it is mostly women in rescue activities . Also notice that they are vociferous in criticizing other people who own pets. One person in the rescue business in neighborhood post was critical about a post that a person who need to rehome their dog due to medical issues. Kept saying that they were not competent to check out potential owners. The dog had to go to a rescue outfit.
I have owned dogs , cats horses for decades I also have foxes in my yard. I will throw out turkey carcass to get rid of it and let foxes to eat. But I do not tame them , try to trap them and leave them wild.
Now ground hogs that undermine my foundation and cause water leaks . I let my dog chase them away. Better that having to poison them.
Wildlife live in nature that is brutal in tooth and claw. They die and that is normal. Yet women constantly want to save them and tame them which is harmful.
