"Because you — and I mean specifically YOU, the press corps — because you cheer against Trump so hard, it's in your DNA and in your blood to cheer against Trump..."

"... because you want him not to be successful so bad, you have to cheer against the efficacy of these strikes, you have to hope maybe they weren't effective, maybe the way the Trump administration has represented it isn't true. So let's take half truths, spun information, leaked information, and then spin it, spin it in every way we can to try to cause doubt and manipulate... the public mind, over whether or not our brave pilots were successful. How many stories have been written about how hard it is to, I don't know, fly a plane for 36 hours? Has MSNBC done that story? Has Fox? Have we done the story how hard that is?... There are so many aspects of what our brave men and women did that — because of the hatred of this press corps — are undermined because you people are trying to leak and spin that it wasn't successful. It's irresponsible...."

Shitting on success is routine for leftists. Shitting on any success that reflects well on Trump is their Olympics. None, as in not Fox either, of them have covered this whole story with anything approaching the journalism standards we met in publishing our high school paper.

All news is devolving into a he said she said or horse race dichotomy similar to how they cover elections. Election season never ends now because the DNC Media turns every issue into an election issue in the way they cover it.

Much to my disappointment my wife has started watching FNC again and it’s worse than when I used to watch. Every story is framed in the exact same language as the NYT and DNC frame it. The hateful bias is so obvious and debilitating to these media outlets. I have friends that hate Trump, but love the military and are very patriotic. We have to avoid politics since Trump turned them into emotional non-thinkers , but they must be very conflicted with this, as they only watch CNN and are forced to watch the military they love being discounted while still wanting Trump to fail.

bagoh20 said...

" Did I misread their intent?"
Yes, because if the same level of confidence was attached to a report that claimed total success for a Trump mission, they would have ignored the report and used the weakness of it to justify ignoring it. They need no confidence at all to report anything that's negative on Trump. That's why they consistently get Trump related stories 180 degrees wrong.

This mission was carried out by Americans in their 20s, with the oldest being 28. An incredibly dangerous and complicated undertaking involving thousands of isolated actions with extremely complex machines and systems needed to to be done precisely and with courage. Things none of us here or in the media could or would do. The result was world changing, and may bring peace to the most dangerous place in the world, that has cost millions of lives over decades with no peace expected just a few days ago. What possible justification would an American have to discount that amazing accomplishment, especially as a first instinct?

... the media like AI is not yet self-aware. They can’t possibly understand how they sound to humans."

I loved that comment. I intend to use versions.

I always believed that the strike crushed the nuclear weapons program but belief is the right word. I'll describe my attempts to gain knowledge, in addition to belief. The Pentagon said it was to early to issue battle damage assessments, then nothing. So there was nothing for me to know. After a day or so Maxar posted before and after pictures purporting to show the damage. I was shocked at its extent and could not understand how anyone could doubt the blow that was delivered. Then I realized I was looking at the "before" picture and the terrain in that part of Iran just looks as if it had been recently bombed. To me the after picture looked pretty much the same. Then a new set of pictures came out with arrows pointing at something I couldn't make out as the bomb damage. But these pictures had an accompanying story line, namely that the effort was the same as that in Stars Wars or Top Gun Maverick - namely to drop a bomb into a ventilation shaft so as to reach an underground installation. And that the effort was successful. That's the meaning of "pinpoint accuracy." But then CNN said: "Yes, the bombs got in but however, there was no real damage." CNN lips were moving so this was lying. How would they or anyone know the damage until someone got in there? and I noticed that no one had gotten in. In fact, the Israelis bombed the entrance/exits so no one could get in - or out. Then Iran threw six bombs at one of our bases after notifying us they were doing to do it, declared victory and ordered us to negotiate and so I then knew we'd crushed the nuclear weaponization sites. You may say that's not evidence but I think it's all I'm going to get. If we hit underground uranium enrichment and storage sites, we rendered the area radioactive. Everyone down there is dead, I hope for their sakes, and no one is going to tunnel toward radiation to see how much there is.
If there were to be a single picture explaining this raid better it would show the outline of the underground complex and how the bombs hit right on that outline, not to the left or right, where they would just have been blowing up rock. It would show how the bombs craters are right above the centrifuge area showing that we'd seen right through 600 feet of earth to know where to hit to hurt the most. Flying at night above hostile territory in the dark of the moon after 18 hours, we launched bombs that drilled down through 600 feet of rock at the precise spot which would hit a hidden room in a secret installation whose blueprint was supposed to be a complete secret. And then we flew home without anyone noticing us as we came or as we left.

Thank you Wildswan. I can also help with the before & after images. They show, especially Natanz, the surface before, which is hilly but appears flattened because of the straight-down view and has tiny pinprick ventilation shafts visible. The after shows those holes enlarged, but again they seem "small" because it's a wide area view. But the biggest feature change is that the hilly terrain is now one huge dome, indicating the ground below has been disturbed and lifted up much like a bubble in a pizza crust.

At first the result seems subtle but the more you see it the more you see how the terrain shifted. That they repeatedly penetrated the shafts to get down to the heart of the operation is absolutely awesome.

I do not want the press sucking Donald Trump's dick. That's not the function of a healthy press in the United States. It really does suck that our press won't do this with Democrat presidents.

Nevertheless ... I and a lot of other people remain skeptical that Donald Trump has NOT DONE ENOUGH to destroy Iran. These strikes helped Donald Trump in that they let him go in, claim victory, then get out all in one news cycle and the entire administration is attempting a full court press in the media to make it "out of bounds" to question this narrative.

Fuck that. Show me. I have eyes. The Fordow site was not "obliterated." If you claim it is you are going to have to show me. If you attack when questioned ... as a way of deflecting and not answering the question, that is evidence that you don't want people to know the answer and that's pretty much all the Trump Administration is doing right now.

Jaq said...

The reason the deep state is leaking against Trump is because he is trying to douse the embers of this war, and they are trying to spark it up again. It's that simple. The nuke thing is just a pretext, unless you firmly believe that it is an unacceptable risk that any country should rise in affluence and power to rival your own, no matter how slight the risk is that one day they might turn evil. So using this logic, you then claim to be true now, that which you have the tiniest fear might possibly happen: "They are evil! They want to die in a blaze of glory! They are working on a bomb this minute! It's a lead pipe cinch, and the proof is that we are afraid that there is tiny possibility that it might happen someday!"

If somebody says "Iran is three years away from making a bomb," that doesn't mean they are trying to build one, it means that, should they decide to build a bomb today, IF THEY DECIDE to build a bomb today, they could have one in three years, if they don't, well it's three years from the day they do, if they ever do. They have been on the brink of having a bomb for decades.

Of course, nobody would blame them for building one now. But Germany, back before WWI, had its own version of the bomb, they started building a navy, which Bismarck told them was stupid, but Bismarck could not live forever, so he passed on, and Germany started building a navy, and Britain, dominating the globe, at this time, but living on an island, could not brook this possibility, so it was total war, and it took two world wars to destroy Germany's military potential so that Britain was safe again from any possibility of a rival arising in Europe.

"Special relationship" really means that the US was allowed to have a navy that rivaled that of the British Empire, they would consent to be Greece to our Rome, as long as they can still run things from the background, the éminence grise to the American empire.

The Trump Administration is doing everything in its power to make it look like exactly that. It is reacting extremely, and very obviously defensively.

There is NOTHING stopping the United States, joining with the IAEA, from entering Iran and inspecting those sites. If Iran wants to try to stop us, let them try. We obviously have a perfectly good military ready to fight them ... right? Right?

I take note of the fact that when the Chernobyl nuclear plant exploded, many other countries detected it long before the Soviets would admit to it. They knew because it's trivially easy to detect radiation in the air.

Grok: "No countries have reported detecting elevated radiation levels following the U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran's Fordow nuclear facility on June 22, 2025. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and several Gulf nations, including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, and the UAE, explicitly stated that no increase in off-site radiation levels was observed after the attacks on Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. Iran's nuclear agency and health ministry also reported no signs of radioactive contamination or danger to residents near the sites. Field surveys and radiation monitoring systems in the region, including those operated by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), confirmed normal radiation levels.

"While the strikes caused significant damage to Fordow’s infrastructure, particularly above ground structures and possibly centrifuges, the deeply buried nature of the facility and Iran’s reported evacuation of nuclear materials beforehand likely minimized any radiological release. Experts noted that any contamination is likely confined to the site itself, with no widespread environmental impact detected."

You may follow the MAGA spokespeople if you want. I will follow the science where it leads.

We need to destroy Iran's ability to strike at America and we have not done that.

It's about time somebody called these people out publicly. And that includes way too many people on this blog.

Think about what you're cheering for. And then ask yourself why.

“There is NOTHING stopping the United States, joining with the IAEA, from entering Iran and inspecting those sites. If Iran wants to try to stop us, let them try.”
We want to leave them with some semblance of dignity. We are not an occupying force. The point was not to rub their noses in defeat. The point was to destroy their nuclear capabilities. And you know that. You just want to turn this victory into a shooting war. Bad for Iran and bad for our soldiers.

"Actually, I prefer an adversary press that is skeptical of anything a politician or political party says. It's preferable to a press which just blindly accepts what politicians say at face value."
Yea me too, but if that press accepts and even creates stories to protect one party and attack the other it's not adversarial to power, but to party. Just as clear is that they have no skepticism of anonymous sources, even if there is only one, and that one is deeply biased or even imaginary. Also no skepticism of reports with low confidence obviously suspect at such an early date if the story hurts the right people and with no regard to who else it may slander. They are not being adversarial out of journalistic principle, and it's obvious.

Pushing back on lies from the press is just as, or even more important than lies from politicians. You are still being lied to by people who you depend on to tell you the truth. Many foolishly assume the press won't lie even after they have been lied to over and over for years by the same people. Who else is going to call out the Press when they all support the same party. One of the main responsibilities of a cabinet secretary is to make sure people get the story right, because you almost always know more than them.

I see now why the press tried to hound Hegseth into resigning earlier this year. They were afraid this might happen.

Nicely done.

Let me just add:
“If Iran wants to try to stop us, let them try.”
This statement says it all. Democrats don’t want a win.
A few days ago we knew we had destroyed the Iran nuclear program. But the conclusion was nebulous precisely because we wanted the Iranian people to keep their sense that something remained, that defeat wasn’t overwhelming. Democrats know that. But if they can foster resentment in the Iranian people, if they can make future negotiations difficult for President Trump then they’re all in.
When this comment was made - “ If Iran wants to try to stop us, let them try.” - this guy knew any such effort would put US soldiers at risk. But it was worth it to him because possibly defeat could be snatched from the jaws of victory. It was worth putting our soldiers at risk if there was a possibility of hurting Trump.
I give you today’s Democrats.
