"Musk went on to hand out oversized novelty checks to two winners for a million dollars each... One of those just happened to be the chairman of the Wisconsin College Republicans."

I'm listening to the NYT "Daily" podcast, "Is Elon Musk Buying Today’s Election in Wisconsin?"

Seems like if he wanted to buy an election for a republican he would not start by paying the head of a republican group who certainly would have voted, and voted R, whether paid or not.

Thinks about it.

Q: who attended the rally? A: basically, Republicans. And probably slanted towards Republicans with a political bent.

So, one winner was associated with one of many Republican associations in the state. What are the chances? Pretty good I would say.

And it’s not like Musk couldn’t just walk up to the chairman of the WCR and hand him a million dollar check any time he wanted to, or to any other Republican organizer for that matter, independent of the rally event. It’s not like he’s handing out government funds where bias would be an issue.

Is Elon Musk Buying Today’s Election in Wisconsin?

Isn't it more like, "Elon Musk Might Outbid the Democrats in Today's Election in Wisconsin?"

Grok:

"Crawford's campaign has reported significant funding from the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, which received large donations from figures like George Soros and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, as well as individual donors across the state and beyond."

Is George Soros trying to buy an election in Wisconsin today?

But of course the New York Times isn't interested in that. That's a non-story.

"We don't want to waste our time on stories that are not really stories, and we don't want to waste the listeners’ and readers’ time on stories that are just pure distractions." - NY Times

No wait ... that's NPR. Talking about Hunter Biden's laptop.

Back to Grok:

"George Soros has indirectly supported her through the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, which can receive unlimited donations and then transfer funds to candidates. Soros donated $2 million to the state Democratic Party during the 2025 election cycle—$1 million in January and another $1 million later in the campaign. The party, in turn, transferred substantial sums to Crawford’s campaign, including $5.5 million in direct transfers and $842,310 in in-kind contributions during the February 4 to March 17 pre-election period, plus an earlier $3 million across December and January. While not all of this can be directly traced to Soros’s donations alone (the party also received funds from others, like $1.5 million from Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker), his $2 million contribution significantly bolstered the party’s ability to support Crawford. Her campaign reported raising a total of $24 million, with much of that facilitated by party support tied to megadonors like Soros."

I read that Musk offered the prize to anybody that could demonstrate they voted, not anybody that voted Republican. And a judge was unable to block him, which supports the non-partisan aspect of the offer. So I guess the Gods are smiling and the tears are saltier. Progressive democrats hate losing a fair fight, but not as much as they hate losing a fixed one.

meanwhile,
in Milwaukee, the Democrats are

kicking out poll observers

"And a judge was unable to block him"

Why would a judge be trying to stop him from doing anything? Do judges just go around looking for things to block?

"One of those just happened to be the chairman of the Wisconsin College Republicans." So, win-win. WCR can use the boost, I'm sure.

The corruption and interference is appalling. Elon then flies home on Air Force One??

The last thing Donald Trump needs is an advisor being zanier than he is, and if the job you've taken on is stopping the money politicians are always giving each other, don't go around giving away money. Yes, it's Musk's own money not public funds, but it's still bad optics to throw a million or two around like that.

It's all legal, even if it's out it the open.

Is there some reason why Elon Musk can't give money to the Wisconsin College Republicans?

Rusty said...

Thanks, Gilbar.

Right, Lucille--Elon is doing this for the perk of flying on Air Force One (because he doesn't have his own really really nice jet).

Bad "optics."
Have you been living in a cave for the last 10 years? "Optics" are the rules by which "Good Republicans" are controlled by the media. That game is over.

In the woke of taxpayer funded schemes a la USAID, EBT, etc, this is a refreshing opportunity to offer incentive to get out the vote using private capital.

Does Soros buy elections, including this one? I’m betting the Democrat wins anyway. It’s Wisconsin. Look at the governor.

I think the democrats in Milwaukee should be a bit worried in using their boxes of fresh printed ballots to win this time. There is a new DOJ that would like to explore things like this in more detail.

But they may feel that they have nothing to lose now, all the family secrets are being exposed anyway.

I like how ‘oversized novelty checks’ is meant to diminish the fact a million dollars was distributed- twice…

At one point it was phrased like that but to make it seem more legal, it became anyone who signed a petition condemning judicial activism.

Why on earth should the American taxpayer foot the bill to fly an un-elected billionaire around the country?

I'm sure we can find all the time you bitched about all the unelected members of Biden's Admin who got flown around in private planes on the taxpayer's dime. Right?

Right?

Oh, that's right, you didn't give a shit about it when it wad your side doing it, it's only weird and wrong when someone you've been told to hate does it.

Damn you leftists are really stupid

What are the odds? Vote early and often, Wisconsinites!

"Lucille"--you, not I, were the one who suggested that Musk is flying to and from Wisconsin on Air Force One (9:23 AM). I don't think that is the case. The man has several very nice Gulfstreams and can afford to pay for the fuel.

boatbuilder said...

Lazarus--it's working now. The old way hasn't worked for a very long time.

Exactly, maybe Musk should have laundered the money through various PACs and such to try and hide his fingerprints like Soros does.

Remember that Democrats only hand out big checks to Oprah and Beyonce.

Ordinary voters get street cash.

There's no question that Musk has raised the profile of this election. That was the purpose of all this.

We'll see how the good people of Wisconsin respond.

This today from Turley is an example of the sort of nonsense the WSC is currently putting out.

Do the right thing Badgers.

Funny how it's only now the left expresses concern about outside monies flowing into elections.
