... but we got out later in the day — to the Arb — and found the earliest of the flowering trees in bloom:
That last photo shows my hand steadying the delicate bloom of the Polish larch. The previous 3 photos are all of the magnolia. These are our magnolias. You don't need to tell me that your magnolias look different or that only your magnolias deserve the name magnolias. These are magnolias.

My redbud and flowering pear have been in bloom for a while.
Our native Mexican plums started blooming about a month ago - some are earlier, some are later, the period goes for around a month. They're in full leaf now. The post oaks leafed out last week. It's been a nice spring, long and gentle this year. Bluebonnets and other wild flowers are out now, the highways are in full bloom. And I've got crimson clover starting to bloom now, making my bees happy.
We have no idea what these trade deals involve. Obviously reverting back to a manufacturing society will take some time. It’d be dumb for these deals not to grok that. Key is to energize the transition period so that is advantageous to all sides.
Our dogs love to chew on Magnolia cones. I don't think they are poisonous.
I have noticed that there are apparently multiple AI bots, and different people have their preferred bot. One may expect that, over time, some of those bots will prosper, and others will wither and die. Which means, that AI is now subject to evolutionary pressures. Now, AI does not, exactly, reproduce. But reproduction is not really necessary for evolution. As long as there is a continuity to the nature of the thing, and a possibility of its increase or decrease, evolution comes into effect. Survival of the fittest. Meaning, best fitted to thrive.
When you ask questions of the abyss ....
No magnolias where I live, but the flowers are beautiful. Must be nice to see after a long winter. I don't have seasons here either.
Magnolias are otherworldly.
That looks like a quesodilla flower.
The larch
And now the larch"
The. Larch.
First the Larch, then the importance of not being seen.
We're past peak dogwood (leaves out), but the Formosa azaleas look good. I'm on the edge of their hardiness zone in central NC.
Pennsylvania state police have arrested Cody Balmer, of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on charges of attempted murder, terrorism, aggravated arson, and aggravated assault against an enumerated person in relation to the arson attack on the Pennsylvania Governor’s mansion. That was quick.
Questions. First, why isn’t there better security — as in 24/7 — at the residence? Second, what is an “enumerated person”?
…larch…
Tariffs, Savings and Investment. Another gem from John Cochrane…

Big Mike: "First, why isn’t there better security — as in 24/7 — at the residence? Second, what is an “enumerated person”?"
Enumerated person: A PA statute lists a bunch of officials attcking whom gets you extra penalties. For shorthand purposes, these are enumerated persons.
Why not better security: Well, it worked, in terms of the troopers getting to the Guv and family/guests and getting them out of harm. Property loss is a lesser evil (to echo a recent discussion here).
To completely keep out everyone who tries to scale the fence, you'd need a lot of troopers. Think a football game, with a very narrow field and 11 defensemen - guys still score touchdowns. Or heck, hockey or basketball, with even smaller areas to defend. You'd also need a second line of troopers at the house. And a mobile reaction force. For even a relatively small residence, those numbers add up. Multiply by three shifts, and it starts to become real money.
Might be able to reduce manpower if you allow shooting at dudes just for scaling the fence. Yeah, that's going to happen.
So all that money being spent to defend the Guv's house, when PA has so many urban crime problems making regular people's houses unsafe? Neither party would put up with that.
Might be able to improve passive defenses - taller fence, harder windows, maybe some creative landscaping so there's not a straight path from the fence to the house.

The impact of unpredictable and incompetent policy making on both investment and consumption, the twin drivers of the economy.
The two weeks of flip flops, u-turns and nonsense have not had time to change trade flows or be reflected in inflation or unemployment statistics. But they have paralysed investment. How can any company make an investment when there is no visibility of input costs or the legislative regime? Similarly, consumers will defer spending if they are afraid of losing their jobs. And retailers and manufacturers struggle to make orders when the landed cost may be double or half their expectations when the goods or materials arrive.
So a vicious circle develops, which brings down the house of cards. This could be existential, notwithstanding the optimism of the Trump administration. The uncertainty is the killer, not the actual policies.
Rehajm, thanks for the grumpy-economist link. That was interesting reading.
I am not going to deny that those are magnolias. I am not familiar with every variety of magnolia. BUT....neither will I confirm that they are magnolias. CALLING them magnolias does not MAKE them magnolias.
FBI: Wisconsin Teen Allegedly Killed Parents as Part of Plot to Assassinate Trump, Overthrow Government
"A 17-year-old from Waukesha, Wisconsin, allegedly killed his parents as part of a plot to overthrow the United States government, including calls to assassinate President Donald Trump, according to newly unsealed federal records.

Authorities arrested Nikita for vehicle theft and firearm possession and seized his phone. After obtaining a search warrant for the device, they found material related to “The Order of Nine Angles,” a Satanic occult group created in the early 1970s by Anton Long, thought to be a pseudonym for British neo-Nazi David Myatt, according to the Anti-Defamation League.
The group has also been described as an “occult-based neo-Nazi and white supremacist group” and “the most dangerous far-right terror movement,” according to the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, a Washington-based nonpartisan national security and foreign policy research institute.
Also referred to as 09A, the group “advocates for the use of violence and terrorism to overthrow governments and destroy modern civilization,” the FBI stated in the affidavit."

“These are magnolias.”
Jean-Luc Picard responded…
“There are FOUR magnolias”
"Low Key Sunrise". Good name for a band, song, and or a mixed drink.
Also, a euphemistic inside joke. [Something happens], say to partner, "Wow, that was a low key sunrise."

Kak - the house of cards in the Biden fake presidency - where a cabal of elite mob-type leftist control freaks and pedos ran the shit show.
