“I'm not talking
Well that's all I got to say
Used to think I knew it
Man I sure outgrew it
Things like idle chatter
Ain't the things that matter
That's one thing I can do without
I'm not talking
Well that's all I got to say
Things I say at midnight
I ain't gonna say 'em in daylight
I reached the final conclusion
And all this persecution
Don't call me, baby, I'll call you
I'm not talking
Well that's all I got to say
Things I say at midnight
I ain't gonna say 'em in daylight
I reached the final conclusion
And all this persecution
That's one thing I can do without
I'm not talking
Well that's all I got to say
If I said things were awful
It might just be unlawful
If I said things were splendid
I might just be offended
That's one thing I can do without”

Trump imposes tariffs just to announce tariff relief.

It took 49 days to get rid of (former) PM Liz Truss in the UK. Trump has quite a bit more capacity for damage than Truss. The only place Truss harmed was her own country. Trump’s impact is global. But America is still his chief victim.

Just uploaded Maureen Dowd Imus interviews 2004-2005 LINK

It's the source of my opinion that Dowd has a self-deprecating sense of humor.

Witkoff in Apparent Reversal Says Iran Must Halt Nuclear Enrichment ~ WSJ
"A day after he said Iran could continue low-level enrichment, Trump envoy appears to backtrack."

So, Trump's envoy is essentially suggesting that we return to the position which existed before Trump tore up the previous agreement, in order to end the unacceptable situation that was created by Trump tearing up that agreement...

When will Trump learn that he does not understand geopolitics and that his attempts to treat everything like a property deal usually end up producing a result which is diametrically the opposite of that which he wanted to achieve?

Read earlier about the Wisconsin man who, wanting to assassinate Mr Trump, began his adventure by murdering his parents. The article mentioned the 'Order of Nine Angles' which I figured had to be one of the killer's fantasies but, do you know, such a nasty group of people actually exist (not that the NYT writer would link to Wikipedia).

I see that Karmelo Anthony has had his bail reduced (by 75%) and he”s now at home with his family.

Also in the news, Letitia James turns out to have genuinely committed mortgage fraud. The case will be handled by Pam Biondi’s DoJ.

I listened to the Dowd interview right after the Tucker Carlson interview with Congressman Curt Weldon. According to Dowd, Bush jr never discussed 9/11 with his dad - not only a former President but also a former head of the CIA. I remember Brent Scoecroft tried to dissuade Bush Jr from invading Iraq.i always figured that was done with Sr’s approval.
If Dowd is correct and Jr never talked to his dad, unforgivable.

Politics always seems easy and straightforward to the arguing crowd at the local pub for example. But it isn't, it is full of compromise and nuance often with many valid opposing arguments. So the public becomes disillusioned with the people they vote in but without any real understanding of the issues, often that includes me in case I sound patronizing. And they vote for the populist, the guy who sounds like they do and wants to fix things, easily. What worries me is that not only do the general public not understand the issues but neither does the one in charge and when both figure that out who knows what could happen.

I'm not sure whether I should be amused or dismayed by the forthcoming barrage of think pieces arguing that:

a: It is fundamentally wrong to single out your political opponents for legal prosecution;
b: The banks knew what they were doing;
c: the loan is being paid, so there is no "victim;"
d: this is the way things are done in the mortgage world; everybody does it.
e: Nobody really cares whether the AG lives in NY or not.

I'm going to stick with "amused," until some "principled" Republican judge throws out the case.

Yah. So far the GOP has been hiding their contempt for their voters but they’re running out of runway and will have to start objecting to all the constructive progress because ‘principled’…

I wonder which sympathetic judge she will get.

you won't remember it for long; because:
https://amgreatness.com/2025/04/15/pa-governors-mansion-arsonist-identified-as-a-socialist-on-social-media/

frequently shared links from anarchist accounts on Facebook.

Social media posts also show that he supported Black Lives Matter, believed in free universal healthcare as a right, and was a fan of Andrew Yang.

He also shared memes criticizing MAGA supporters, Christians, and the 2nd amendment.

Feds sue North Carolina BBQ owner for using pandemic funds to buy FedEx store

"The owner of the popular Hillbilly’s BBQ in Gaston County promised to use federal money to help keep his business afloat during the pandemic. Instead, he bought a FedEx store. He’ll now pay the federal government $1.5 million to settle a civil lawsuit against him, the U.S. attorney’s office in Charlotte said Monday.

Bobby Gerald Duncan, the owner of the Charlotte-area barbecue restaurant, spent nearly all of his $762,000 of pandemic relief money to buy a second, unrelated business with a “longtime friend,” according to a civil lawsuit filed by the U.S. attorney for the Western District of North Carolina. He used $750,000 from the Paycheck Protection Program and two Economic Injury Disaster Loans to buy a FedEx store, according to a complaint filed Friday in Charlotte’s U.S. District Court.

...

Prosecutors said Duncan “unquestionably used the relief funds” to buy the store. Without them, according to prosecutors’ calculations, he would have been more than $600,000 in debt. Duncan previously asked the government to forgive the loans and “certified under oath” that the relief funds were used explicitly for pandemic-related expenses. “They were not,” Assistant U.S. Attorney J. Seth Johnson wrote in the settlement agreement. Duncan agreed to pay more than $1.5 million to settle the lawsuit the same day prosecutors filed it, according to court records. “Pandemic relief funds were meant to provide a financial lifeline to small businesses struggling to stay afloat during the unprecedented COVID crisis,” U.S. Attorney Russ Ferguson in a statement Monday. “Where those funds were misused, we will pursue their return as part of our ongoing effort to curb waste, fraud, and abuse of taxpayer money.”

I dug out six low arbor vitae bushes that were original to the house. I used a pick to dig out around the bushes and then a sawzall with a long wood blade to cut the roos well below ground level. Pro tip. Use a sawzall because the blade won't dull in contact with the dirt like a chainsaw will.

Also UWM lost its federal funding for some gender horseshit or other. Taxpayers are grateful.

Thanks, Rusty! I've gone through a lot of chainsaw blades doing that kind of work.
