When the income tax was first introduced after the 16th amendment- only 3% of the population made enough to pay it. It was designed, like most demoncRAT policies, to soak the rich. Now the middle class is soaked, and the lowest- and cheaters- (I know several, personally, in that class) are subsidized by government through all kinds of giveaways.

What was the justification? Why, tariffs of course. Tariffs on imported goods were making things too expensive for the working man! While ensuring that working man had a job since as long as the tariffs were near reasonable, the wanted goods would be produced here rather then smuggled in. The USA is, after all, a nation of smugglers. Not that my grandfather was a rum runner during prohibition or anything, or my wife's ancestors MD eastern shore ancestors were doing a lively trade with the CSA, but smuggling consumer goods is an American tradition.

And Social security- another demoncRAT program, originally untaxed- which became taxed. For that the uniparty must be blamed... both sides equally at fault. Originally, like the income tax, it would only be taxable for a few people...

Way too many people harbor a great deal of hostility to those who are successful in the Game of Life.

Trump's proposal too eliminate income tax completely for those make <$155,000 (I thing that's the number I read) has my full support. Starve the leviathan. I might be in favor of some kind of VAT, or national sales tax, if and only if- the income tax were totally limited. A VAT could very well well be substituted for tariffs- putting a higher VAT on anything imported as opposed to manufactured or produced here. Bordeaux is just Merlot bottled in France, and we're got some pretty good ones coming out of CA. I don't like the ones from the Finger Lakes- though I live right next door to wine country. Motto: "Finger Lakes is for wine, NAPA is for auto parts."

Krysten Sinema is liked by both Democrats and Republicans. Republicans would be wise to find a place for her in the Administration.

I haven't read the details, but it doesn't sound good to me. Unless it's a flat rate on income above $155K it will make the system even more progressive, with the top 40% or so completely financing the federal government except for Social Security. I'd much prefer a flat rate of say 10% (no deductions), or even better, scrap the income tax entirely in favor of a VAT. But no VAT without scrapping the income tax.

OK. Yes. Yes. It's all good. Really, this has been the best three months in my lifetime. But. How are we going to rescue Tina Peters?

The federal government has evolved into an entity whose primary function is to transfer money from people who earned it to people who did not earn it, with a cut for a lot of Big and Little Guys. None of this is covered by our Constitution, and it is slowly destroying our nation.
It will be difficult to unravel this, but first we have to avoid changes that make it this situation worse.
Worse means more progressive. The income tax is obviously very progressive; it's less well known that Social Security is expressly progressive also- it replaces a higher percentage of low income than higher income (even before higher earners going above the taxable base).
Income taxes should be abolished- a tax on gainful employment means there will be less of it. Tariffs are good for all sorts of reasons, not the least is making sure we as a nation regain basic skills such as steel and aluminum making that we have functionally lost. Same with pharmaceuticals.
A VAT would be an improvement if and only if the income tax amendment (#16) is repealed.
Lefties insist that tariffs can never bring in as much revenue as the income tax does. That is a good thing. We also need a balanced budget amendment, allowing exceptions only in case of war actually declared by COngress (no police actions or Viet Nam/Iraq/A'stan off the books wars).

Remember Kyle Rittenhouse? Yeah. Well. That was fun, wasn't it? The tool-in-chief of that weaselfest was a living-and-moving instance of infectious slime named Binger. And in the course of searching the internet for "Binger", I came across this. Upon further investigation, I also discovered this. Look, I don't care what their NATO slave-masters say, the German people are a great and valiant people, and their eradication by Muslim vermin would be a tragedy even more vast than those we have already visited upon them.

Everyone should have skin in the game.

Congratulations to the Wisconsin Badgers basketball team, which beat Michigan State yesterday in a thriller. Today they will play Michigan for the championship of the Big Ten tournament.

Tom Izzo looked really happy to lose that game. There's a thing about playing in the Big 10 (18?) championship game and then having to play Thursday/Friday next week.

Does anyone actually know what their message is? First it’s EV’s and green new deal. Now we’re burning EV’s and painting swastikas. What a bunch of idiots to say it nicely!

The media energized a bunch of low functioning people into believing the Elon Musk is a N@zi from a single photo that was taken out of context. It's kind of frightening when you think about it.

It's funny to hear my friends, who never made a peep about Joe Biden provoking a war with Russia in Ukraine are freaking out that Trump is gonna start WW3 bombing the Houthis. We are so heavily propagandized it's not funny, and the propaganda is generated by a secret cabal, not even by the government, but when this secret cabal gets control of the government they use its power for their goals. When they are out of power, they use their control of the media to get it back.
