When you hire a convicted criminal as president and a team of incompetent, inexperienced misfits for assistants this is what you get. WTF a good way to get Veterans killed. Trump national security team messaged plans for Yemen strikes to Atlantic editor in chief in stunning breach
The Atlantic magazine’s editor in chief was included on a message chain in which top Trump administration officials — including Vice President JD Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and national security adviser Mike Waltz — discussed recent strikes against the Houthi terror group in Yemen, in a stunning breach of national security.
Jeffrey Goldberg revealed the jaw-dropping mishap Monday, writing he connected with Waltz on Signal March 11 and was invited to join a chain called the “Houthi PC small group” two days later — before receiving a stream of internal deliberations and operational details.
The bombs fell on the Middle Eastern country March 15, with the Trump administration claiming to have “taken out” multiple leaders of the Iran-backed Houthis.
Atlantic editor Jeffrey Goldberg revealed that the Trump national security team included him on messages discussing strikes against the Houthis in Yemen.
National Security Council spokesman Brian Hughes told The Post that the Signal chain that included Goldberg “appears to be an authentic message chain, and we are reviewing how an inadvertent number was added to the chain.”
President Trump pleaded ignorance when asked Monday afternoon about the staggering snafu.Just like ignorance of signing the Alien Act 1798 and throwing little Marco under the bus.
You’re telling me about this for the first time,” the president told reporters. “Having to do with what? What were they talking about?” Maybe if this perp spent less time golfing and more in tuned with the the fuk is going on he wouldn't have to blame everyone around him.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt later said: “President Trump continues to have the utmost confidence in his national security team, including National Security Advisor Mike Waltz.” Of course she would she is so far up his butt.
The incident drew bipartisan outcry from Capitol Hill, with Senate Intelligence Committee Vice Chair Mark Warner (D-Va.) writing on X: “This administration is playing fast and loose with our nation’s most classified info, and it makes all Americans less safe.”
“Classified information should not be transmitted on unsecured channels — and certainly not to those without security clearances, including reporters. Period,” added Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY). “Safeguards must be put in place to ensure this never happens again.”
These are the most incompetent dangerous people to have ever graced the ADMINISTRATION AND THE PRESIDENCY. They will definitely spin the crap out of this and fire some low on totem poll individual over this Trumps statement not about the dangers to human life and security of the nation but "'I never really liked the Atlantic". what a what's next nuclear codes and the biscuit. Failed peace with Gaza and bloviated threats with no follow up, failing and being played by Vlad and destroying the economy,, Great start and only 2 months. This is the winning? Losing more courts then he did in 2020. 65 or so and frivolous suits. Ain't taking long for this group to fuk everything up. The US his 7th bankruptcy? God bless America it sure is gonna need it! These people would have been thrown to the curb during my time of Military service 65-72)

Remember that Woody Allen joke about "What if a huge crowd spontaneously appears somewhere, because you know it's possible! And Woody says, "Sure, it's possible, but it never happens, does it."

Well, it does happen now because of "flash mobs" who use social media to synchronize. Well, you know what else is extremely unlikely to happen? 2000 people in a city moving from ballot drop box to ballot drop box. I mean, it could happen randomly, in theory, kind of like a Boltzman Brain could happen in theory, but if it does happen, the smart money is on the idea that it's been organized.

Top US officials shared classified details of military strikes with journalist ~ WSJ

Grateful to JD Vance, Hegseth and Miller for their candor. Hard to imagine a more comically appropriate way for them to betray how this administration sees its allies. I mean honestly Jeffery Goldberg doesn’t sound like someone you should be sending war plans to.

Lem Vibe Banditory - I saw a Facebook post within the last week or so that said Elon had bought Ancestrydotcom. IIRC- it was on my Facebook ancestry group, but I could be wrong about that.

I do remember posting that no, that didn't happen. As did many others. Amazing how fast rumors can spread in today's digital world.

And BTW- Cynical Publius, well known poster on X, believes the NATSEC leak on Signal is a setup of Jeffrey Goldberg. A disinfo op of sorts. Could be, it's a reasonable explanation.

And then, there's slanted new- headlines in the NY Times from articles. "Is a fetus a person? An anti-abortion strategy says yes." Negative words- "anti-abortion" instead of pro-life. And the implication a live fetus isn't simultaneously a genuine living human. Then if pro-immigration headline "Undocumented women ask: Will my unborn child be a citizen?" Undocumented women instead of invaders (harsh, but they ARE invaders) and suddenly a fetus is an "unborn child", no question about it.

This probably needs the 72-hour rule, but the whole "war plan" thing seems like an op to find leakers. This has been an administration adept at getting "the resistance" to expose themselves early and often to get them out of the way quickly.

Hegseth's statement is a non-denial denial.

US officials should NOT be using the Signal app for any reason whatsoever and should be speaking to each other ONLY on approved - and FOIA-able - channels.

Leland: "This probably needs the 72-hour rule, but the whole "war plan" thing seems like an op to find leakers."

Hard to know if this was an "op" or designed messaging "leak" for geo-political purposes, but what it is clear from the suppised discussion transcript is the complete lack of actual TS/SCI content. And today's US airstrikes against the New Soviet Democraticals Houyhi/Iranian allies appear to have been quite successful.

Which is hardly surprising considering how far into this conflict we are to reestablish Freedom of Navigation vs bidens surrender and the SEAD plan was probably 99% complete on the first day, meaning air supremacy exists and we can basically hit whatever we'd like when we like.

I did particularly like JD's point about the Euro-leeches catching another break in economic and military terms.

TickTock said...

It does appear the New Soviet Democraticals arem attempting to recreate the "Bush was warned about the 9-11 attack via memo!" which only referenced in a massively general sense with no details OBL desire to strike US...to which everyone leans forward and then asks: And? What? Where? How? Who?

This latest event will have approximately zero impact on voters and polls and policy (as seen by todays continuing successful airstrikes)

If anything our New Soviet Democraticals were bleating about were true, wouldn't we have a higher casualty rate than...zero?

Why would including an American journalist “get Veterans killed”? Would not the American journalist value his country and the lives of American service members over what might be personally gained by disclosing secrets?

Interesting observation: none of the usual dem/left/LLR-democratical left (but I repeat myself) (LLR-democratical Rich, FormerLawClerk, etc) are refusing to point to specific supposed Signal discussion content which would be TS/SCI level specifics NOR will our usual suspects point to comments by the alleged participants that our usual suspects disagree with....

....very telling indeed.

Looks like the New Soviet Democraticals are just going to have to ride out the 72 hours of kerfuffle-dom with ever more wailing and gnashing of teeth.

I just listened to a portion of a podcast in which journalist Walter Kirn described the recent rash of "oops, we goofed" media confessionals (Biden sharp as a tack, lab leaks are racist, schools have to be closed, the vaccine is safe and should be given to children, etc.) as classic instances of a technique known to con artists as "cooling the mark". You see, a con only needs to work until you have the mark's money in your pocket. Now you have to cool him out so that he doesn't go to the police or his gun closet. "Cooling the mark" refers to techniques that subtly guide the "mark" (their target) to accept a failure or loss, making it easier for them to leave the situation without taking vengeance or other resistance. You need to equalize guilt, and make the mark think everyone was fooled. Dishonest journalists know that they only need to fool the people for a little while, so long as they know how to cool them out.
I mention this because I think that this conman's cycle of deception (for a noble purpose of course) and "cooling the mark" has now become a staple of the media news environment. They are artists of deceit and we are their marks.

Drago said...

Wait a minute! I was reliably informed this (below) was now impossible and US military personnel casualties were going to be stacked like cordwood!

"DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — U.S. airstrikes targeting Yemen’s Houthi rebels pounded sites across the country into early Tuesday, with the group saying one attack in the capital killed at least two people and wounded more than a dozen others.

The American strikes on the rebels, who threaten maritime trade and Israel, entered their 10th day without any sign of stopping. They are part of a campaign by U.S. President Donald Trump targeting the rebel group while also trying to pressure Iran, the Houthis’ main benefactor."

Ah! And there is the source of the New Soviet Democraticals pain and angst.

Their Houthi/Iranian allies continue to get blasted for their piracy and trade interference. Both of which the New Soviet Democraticals are fully on board with.

It seems like only yesterday the New Soviet Democraticals and their LLR pals were gleefully shipping pallets of unmarked bills in the billions pto the mad mullahs in Tehran for distribution to the terrorists in Lebanon, Israel (yes, its Israel democraticals, including Judea and Samaria, not "Palestine" which is a fictional creation) and Yemen.

I recently read, without commenting therein, some of the recent comment threads on this blog. So much useless invective and attempts at bullying 'humor' and over what ? "Humor is emotional chaos remembered in tranquillity." (James Thurber, quoted by Dean Koontz as an epigraph for a recent novel, 'The Good Guy'). A useful quote when you wonder why so many people are not as sarcastically funny as they think they are --- either they do not recognize chaos for the bad thing it usually is when they experience it, or they do not understand tranquillity. Caring about others who experience hardship, even if one of the others is just oneself, and understanding the goal of achieving, preferably for somebody else (at least on a temporary basis), some measure of tranquillity in this world, are, as Thurber explained, the two keys to being capable of being truly humorous. If you can't do both those things ( the caring and the understanding), please be careful about making too many "sarcastic comments" about people you disagree with. The comment section here (and pretty much everywhere else) would be so much better if people who think they are funny but who are not all that funny put in the minimum required effort in this regard.

Is Ukraine destined to lose? Maybe. maybe not. Russia will keep throwing expendables- which to Russia is people - as long as they can keep it up. Putin gives up- Putin loses power, probably by sudden death, so he isn't going to do that.

As long as Russia keeps it up- Ukraine, even on offense, is on the defense, and defense rarely wins against a larger opponent willing to sustain losses. I originally said more powerful, but Russia isn't really that- just bigger.

Strategypage.com had a series of articles the other day, still there, that go in depth on some Russian problems. They seriously may not be able to keep it up longer because of the awful terrible truth of- they suck at logistics.
LOGISTICS: Russian Railroad Realities
FORCES: Cossacks Rehabilitated
LEADERSHIP: Russians Challenge Reality
SURFACE FORCES : Northern Fleet Deterioration
Their railroads on falling apart. Ad their great weakness- if the electrical power is lost or catenaries are cut- they have an immediate locomotive shortage. Almost all freight in the USA is moved by diesel-electric locomotives, with electrical on a few select mostly passenger routes.

Someone in a comment there mentioned Ukraine could fly drones over and drape wires over the catenary, shorting it to ground. And thinking about it, that's an incredible easy task for drones. The retort to that is, "But that's easy and quick to fix!" But is it? Drones and wire are cheap. Send out 300 drones a KM apart, across an electrified rail line. For the first attack. Not all of those wires are going to be near a roadway paralleling the RR. Probably take a few days to clear up. Each day after that- send out another 20-30 targeting a different stretch. But given their drone use to date, I'm actually surprised they're not strategically focused on rail denial.

Russia can and will win if they can keep pouring supplies and personnel into Ukraine. The longer the Ukes hold out, the more likely a complete logistical collapse will occur. It's a race.

When Drago says “operational security is clean” he means that the Hegseth and his team have just unwittingly and illegally texted war plans to a reporter over an unauthorized platform.

The irony is that the “deceitful journalist” (according to Hegseth) protected national security info better than Trump’s team.

Hard to miss that Jeffrey Goldberg stayed on the line until he had a story he could write. Then he divulged to the world what he thought was damaging information to US national security. So he’s as guilty as he claims the others are, but he is worse, because he was the only one who actually shared it outside the intended team. All to make a buck. It’s almost treasonous. A true patriot would’ve informed Walz of the error of his presence, as well as Rubio and Vance, possibly, so the comms avenue would be strengthened or ditched altogether.

But the kind of mistakes that are happening look to me more like the mistakes of experienced, treacherous Dem DeepStaters. The "mistakes" seem more like point shaving "mistakes" in sports in which very experienced players hold down the score by making a few mistakes which enables big bettors to place winning bets. The experience of the players lets them know just how to make mistakes that look like a lapse in attention, something that could happen to anyone now and then. And here, we are to suppose that some newbie got a name wrong and just didn't know enough to correct it. Isn't it more likely that some experienced person got a name right, hoping to embarrass Hegseth? Isn't this a version of the Vindman play as someone above was pointing out?
