In Austria the most popular party has been excluded from the government by the bien pensants. They are trying to bar Marine LePen from office in France. The German establishment refused to form a government with the second most popular party, which they want to ban. In the UK they’ve canceled elections that Reform would win. Meanwhile the elected outsiders: Meloni, Fico, Orban, Milei, are reviled as “authoritarian”. But it’s not hard to see who the real authoritarians are.

The outsider government of the US has taken notice — Vice President Vance most notably — of the illiberal establishment in Europe. Our administration has its share of outsiders who have been abused by the establishment: DNI Gabbard, Director Patel, Secretary Kennedy, Dr. Bhattacharya, etc.

A core part of the reason people vote for Trump is because they were tired of democracy and power having been farmed out to the "rational" rules of the markets. The GDP figures and economists showed that immigration was good but that didn't seem right to people. Sending jobs to China was good according to market rules but actually they would rather labor pointlessly hard in a steel mill because it's more romantic.

When DOGE's AI system returns what is according to its own algorithms a highly rational 99.999% accurate and fair result and the people don't like it they will experience the exact same sense of alienation that led them to vote for Trump in the first place. For the majority of people it's the irrationality that makes life worth living. They live for the love, luck and ludicrous.

In other words, you have to show ID to vote in Wisconsin AND a paper version of your ballot is created and stored. So our cheaters have had to work out how to cheat the systems everyone else is trying to get to because we'd gotten to those systems.
So, first, we are doing turbo-gerrymandering which is done just before each election based on the previous election. You see, our electoral maps were drawn by the Dem governor and a Dem legislature only a few years ago - but before 2024. So the maps don't reflect the rightward drift that became apparent in 2024. We in Wisconsin need new maps that wriggle along through the remaining solid Dem areas before the 2026 elections. And Susan Crawford will do the job if elected.
But even turbo-gerrymandering is not enough. You need a good vote harvesting operation. A good Wisconsin trick is to have people in city government going around to "help" fill out mail-in ballot applications and then helping to fill in mail-in ballots in the districts that use a lot of city services. No one says that you need to accept "help" in filling the ballot out or you won't get help when you need it in filling out applications or fixing clerical errors. No need.

The base separated from the shell. The bolt was blown back and to the side splitting the receiver and lodging the bolt there. The magazine was split and the handguard was splintered. The barrel rib was split half way up the barrel. The barrel looked to have no other damage. So I think a blocked barrel could be ruled out. The butstock was the only part unharmed. The shooter walked away with just small cuts on his left hand.

I have doubts that the Trump/Musk approach will succeed in making government more efficient (i.e. improved service at reduced cost). Cutting programs wholesale (for example Medicaid) would not by definition “improve efficiency”, as that would just be eliminating a program of services mandated by legislation.

While some may applaud shutting down USAID, others claim that such congressionally sanctioned aid serves a useful purpose. Regardless of what one thinks of the constitutionality of this action – it certainly does not have anything to do with creating “efficiency”.

The true test of success will be whether Trump and Musk deliver proportionally greater service at proportionally reduced cost. Trump did not deliver efficiency during his first term – nor did he deliver on most of his other promises. As time passes, the benefit of hindsight will make it clearer as to whether Donald Trump and Elon Musk are just creating chaos or actually delivering efficiency.; 3/31/25, 10:19 AM

You are correct that the Republicans controlled the legislature the last time the lines were drawn. But I maintain my position that Wisconsin is engaging in what I call turbo-gerrymandering by which I mean the Dems keep drawing lines so as to create seats for themselves.
Lines were drawn in February 2024 following maps presented by the Dem Governor because the Republican Legislature was afraid that the Wisconsin Supreme Court which then had a Dem majority would redraw the maps in a very unfavorable way.
In February 2024 the story was covered as follows on Wisconsin Public Radio:

New state voting districts competitive enough that party winning the most votes 'will win the most seats' in the Legislature

Reality from Chamath Palihapitiya on X: "xAI has acquired X in an all-stock transaction valuing xAI at $80 billion and X at $33 billion under a new holding company that combines both entities.

The synergy of this deal is that X's shareholders get a stake in xAI's increased valuation, and xAI gets full access to X's data and user network to train Grok.

xAI raised $6 billion in late 2024 valuing xAI at $45 billion, and another $10 billion by early 2025 at a $75 billion valuation.

This increase in valuation means that X investors now own shares in a rapidly appreciating AI company rather than just owning shares of a social media platform, fulfilling Elon's promise that X investors would receive 25% ownership in xAI.

Whenever we did a deal like this, it was always a bad sign: at least one of the businesses was in trouble.
