ADDED: More "coup" talk:
Galloway envisions the legislative branch physically attacking the executive branch:Swisher & Galloway are threatening talented, young software engineers who are gave up high compensation for death threats in order to help the American people.

Shame on Swisher & Galloway, cruel, mean & deceitful human beings that they are! https://t.co/50MdPfsOQl
"I'd like to see all — whatever it is — 48 or 49 U.S. Senators and any Republicans who want to join, I'd like to see 100 members of Congress go to the fucking building where this is and demand to go in and physically stop this, and let them arrest you."
It's so January 6th.

The ruling is not material to finding the fraudulent payments. That can be done without accessing personal information, other than, say, "does this payee actually exist."
If it's really a coup, who is it against?
Raw Story must have asked their AI editor to illustrate the piece with a picture of Big Balls.

I guess the professor is having a hard time reading this story because of all those crotch shots.
"Corrupt judges protecting corruption."
An old, sad story that recurs whenever gangsterism prevails.
Repeated from an Althouse post earlier today:
Resistance is alive and well, ensconced in the judiciary. For instance …
Judge Paul Engelmayer has unilaterally forbidden all of Trump's political appointees—including Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent—from accessing Treasury Department data. [Emphasis mine]
Apparently the judge’s theory is that the Secretary of the Treasury is merely a figurehead and doesn’t actually do any real work in his Department. I suppose I should be fair and admit that it does describe Janet Yellen’s tenure.
I made that comment the other day here on the Althouse blog. Rush Limbaugh was a regular reader of the Althouse blog. It wouldn’t surprise me if Elon Musk was a reader of the Althouse blog.
Probably a better post for this earlier comment...
Did anyone read yesterday's order as being this broad?
Judge Paul Engelmayer has unilaterally forbidden all of Trump's political appointees—including Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent—from accessing Treasury Department data.
I found it difficult to discern the order going that far from the text of the judge's order.
the defendants are (i) restrained from granting access to any Treasury Department payment record, payment systems, or any other data systems maintained by the Treasury Department containing personally identifiable information and/or confidential financial information of payees, other than to civil servants with a need for access to perform their job duties within the Bureau of Fiscal Services who have passed all background checks and security clearances and taken all information security training called for in federal statutes and Treasury Department regulations; (ii) restrained from granting access to all political appointees, special government employees, and government employees detailed from an agency outside the Treasury Department, to any Treasury Department payment record, payment systems, or any other data systems maintained by the Treasury Department containing personally identifiable information and/or confidential financial information of payees; and (iii) ordered to direct any person prohibited above from having access to such information, records and systems but who has had access to such information, records, and systems since January 20, 2025, to immediately destroy any and all copies of material downloaded from the Treasury Department’s records and systems, if any;
As Wince said yesterday...
So, [even under this order] the Doge Boys can write the algorithms, a Treasury employee can run them and then share the redacted results?

The comments at RawStory are as rational and thoughtful as you would expect.
When dealing with Hawaiian judges, wherever located, you need to dress for the occasion.
They don't have to ignore the order- they can just follow the letter of the order and still get all of the information they need. This order is just pissing into the wind.
So, you don't use AdBlock? Why not?
And that ad is for the latest styles in women's bikini bottoms with ample room for the ladies' packages.
As with most of this kind of breathless reporting, it just isn't clear to me at all precisely who has been stopped from doing what. The reporting is all hyperbolic and hair-on-fire in its luridity, so I guess we'll find out tomorrow or the next day. One gets the feeling, the dogs bark, and the juggernaut moves on. There are plenty of other stops to make.
"According to observers"
Who?
"Who?"
People who observe, of course!
Ya, it’d be a shame if DOGE identified the persons that are collecting our hard-earned money for no service provided whatsoever. Just a hunch, but Chelsea Clinton being outed likely prompted Hill and Bill to call Trish and get this “STOP!” ball rolling. (Too late!)
"Who is couping who?"
Is this a special case where whom isn't used because it's unknown which "who" is the subject and which is the object?
I don’t know who Scott Galloway is. He obviously doesn’t know shit about the law. Trespassing? LOL.
Swisher is a whacked out bitter lesbian that should be completely ignored. I read a profile about her and it was a deep look into her craziness and perversion. She should be run out of Silicon Valley.
Displaying the insanity of the Left only discredits them more.
From the picture, Elon appears poised to find a new baby momma. With everything on his plate, he finds the time to work out.
Swisher studied propaganda at Georgetown.
Love the juxtaposition of "Musk Poised" and the forward thrusting crotch shot - nice work Google Ads!
Everything the Democrats don't like is a "coup."
Shorter Swisher: Like, like, like.
Galloway teaches “business” at NYU. At least he’s not a law professor.
One of Musk’s “kids” is a computer genius from Nebraska; rather well known. Galloway argued for the Lincoln city cops to arrest this guy for an unnamed crime. In addition to calling for a real insurrection, Galloway was calling for the Left’s Brownshirts a/k/a BLM to attack DC and start riots.
The atheist Galloway has lived in London since 2022. STFU.
Leftist Democratic Soviets are the real authoritarian Neo-fascist nightmares.
You can really see who might have benefited financially from the American Tax payer. and that money will now be cut off.
Boo hoo - a-holes.

Go you one better Dave. Galloway is the guy who's been going around pointing out to the Dems that the reason they did so poorly with young men was because they tend to treat young men like shit and should treat them better.
Guess that's his position as long as his grant money isn't under threat. When that happens it becomes "arrest the little bastards"!
So, Big Balls is a swimsuit model, too. Super Nerd!
“ In addition to calling for a real insurrection, Galloway was calling for the Left’s Brownshirts a/k/a BLM to attack DC and start riots.”
I would suggest that their real Brownshirts here are the Blackshirted AntiFA. They have a century history of attacking “Fascists” and esp “Nazis”. And instigated a lot of the BLM violence. They would walk up to a business, break the glass, exhort the BLM crowd to enter and loot it, then walk off, without entering it themselves. Which, btw, we saw during the J6 protests, by such notables as Ray Eppes, and very possibly by the two busses of AntiFA who showed up that day, and were then promptly ignored by the Capital Police, and, later, the FBI.
MY view is that, for the most part, BLM were dupes, creating significant funding opportunities through graft for their Black leadership, and little more. I think that it is going to be hard turning this dispute racial, between Trump and Musk on the one side, and the Deep State, and their fellow travelers, on the other side. Trump is too well liked by Blacks, and the Black community was too burned by BLM. Which is why I believe that it will be AntiFA and their supporters who will ultimately be released by their Dem overlords to commit violence.
It is worth noting that both Galloway and Swisher are very rich. And I can absolutely guarantee you that both are invested in wind and solar partnerships that allocate to them federal income tax credits in an amount that results in them paying ZERO federal income tax. We plebes, on the other hand, are not so fortunate.
And these two are bitching about cutting the federal budget. Fucking hypocrites.
National Review has a recent and, to me, persuasive article on what Trump is doing: Trump Has Launched a Necessary Fight Over the President’s Spending Discretion.
Quoting from the article:
We can understand Trump’s executive orders — and the outrage that has greeted them — as a broader effort to finally undo ... unconstitutional shackles of the post-Watergate era. The fight over spending is instructive. Trump’s order seems sensible as a temporary measure upon coming into office. Each president has constitutional and legal priorities of his own, and a spending pause allows him the time to make sure that agencies follow them, not those of his predecessor. Without temporarily freezing appropriations, for example, President Trump might be responsible for spending that advances unconstitutional race-based affirmative action or pays for abortions.
...
Should Trump succeed in driving a case against the Budget Act to the Supreme Court, there are several grounds on which the Court could uphold a presidential impoundment power. First, the president should not carry out appropriations that violate the Constitution.
...
Second, the president should refuse to spend funds that violate the separation of powers, especially in cases where Congress interferes with the constitutional authority of the executive branch itself.
...
Third, presidents may exercise the authority to reduce spending for reasons of efficiency or to respond to changed circumstances.
Additionally, although not mentioned here, the President holds very broad authority over international affairs — which is why (hat tip to Andrew McCarthy) Trump started there. It is a losing argument to insist the President spends money that contradicts his international policies.
Bruce Hayden:
I certainly do hope Antifa is unleashed by the Dems. Kash Patel will arrest them and Pam Bondi will convict them. I know they will enjoy their prison time in El Slavador. No masks allowed!

Amazing how many people are exposing themselves as pro-corruption. Musk is right in calling the Democrat Party a kleptocracy.
Um. Who the hell are Kara Swisher and Scott Galloway, and why should I care?
come on democratic-Soviet Governors - you know you want to.
Pelosi, in her walker, can lead the charge.
The grift and graft runs deep and the Lefty shitbirds will stop at nothing to distract, deflect in their attempts to cover the embezzlement of taxpayer money.
"Is this a special case where whom isn't used because it's unknown which "who" is the subject and which is the object?"
You need a transitive verb, which "is" is not, to use "whom".
I think that's how the grammar goes ...
Um. Who the hell are Kara Swisher and Scott Galloway, and why should I care?
I was wondering the exact same thing.
Crazy people. They essentially want to keep the Executive Branch from being able to know what Executive Branch agents are doing in Executive Branch agencies. Didn't hear any concerns like this when a mentally challenged man was allegedly president.
You’d have to be blind not to see this coming.
I asked Perplexity about these 2 plus any involvement with solar energy (none) but my they are rich
“ Kara Swisher has a net worth of approximately $10 million, primarily earned through her career in tech journalism, podcasting, and investments in digital media. Scott Galloway’s net worth is estimated at $40 million, derived from his ventures as a professor, entrepreneur, and co-host of the “Pivot” podcast.
There is no evidence suggesting either Swisher or Galloway has directly invested in solar energy projects. However, the “Galloway I Solar Project” mentioned in the results refers to a solar initiative by Skyline Renewables and is unrelated to Scott Galloway.”
"I'd like to see all — whatever it is — 48 or 49 U.S. Senators and any Republicans who want to join, I'd like to see 100 members of Congress go to the fucking building where this is and demand to go in and physically stop this, and let them arrest you."
Isn't that was Mad Maxine Waters was trying to incite the other day when she was screaming at the security guard?
Also, doesn't this bunch understand that if a bunch of Dem Congresscritters go physically attack Musk and his Chaos Monkeys it's Game-On? Trump will make sure they reap the whirlwind!
Begley re Swisher: she was Isaacson's intern/assistant when he had the On Tech beat at the WSJ, do he'd have her test out new technology and then he'd write the column. When he retired she took over and was fine for awhile, sticking to the mission of writing straightforwardly about tech issues. When TDD started affecting the WDJ newsroom she developed a severe case of it. Since then she's become a hard left partisan talking head on any channel that will give her a platform.
I meant "TDS" of course.
so they have been looting every agency including the social security administration, thats what this kerfluffle has been about,
Isn't our Constitution taught in schools anymore?
"major judicial order", this is what I mean by ameliorated. This ruling that won't last long is something "major" to them.
They already know it won't work, so they are advocating for more violent action. Of course, violent action is better for the Galloways and Swishers of the world, because they won't actually go where they'll would be arrested. They want others, even the 49 Democrat US Senators to do it, but not them. And that action needs to happen now, so the Galloways and Swishers can keep their grant money coming in.
I recommend the Jacksonian approach to this "judge's" order. "He has his order, now let him enforce it." Serously, who in the current DoJ is going to go and stop the DOGE investigations or arrest its investigators? On the other hand, paying lip service to the order while actually Ignoring pending the inevitable appeal it is a pretty good strategy, too, in my opinion. "Oh, yeah, of course we are obeying the order, Your Honor. Absolutely, Your Honor." Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
"(iii) ordered to direct any person prohibited above from having access to such information, records and systems but who has had access to such information, records, and systems since January 20, 2025, to immediately destroy any and all copies of material downloaded from the Treasury Department’s records and systems, if any;"
Ordered to direct? You mean, like I am directing Althouse to stop blogging? "Stop blogging, Althouse". There. I directed her. What can I say, she's insubordinate.
If one of these loon lefties missteps and the administration takes action with arrest for a real crime, they all shut their stupid pie holes. Notice how less defiant Wu and the leftie city Democrats/Socialists are? I’m wishing for one to step into a perjury trap and SNAP! all over….
…and golly who knew how essential corruption of taxpayer funds was by the media? Shocking. My shocked face…
Galloway is rich enough that he made a Polymarket bet of $350,000 on Kamala Harris to win when she was leading 62-38 in the polls. Now he's a little less rich. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

Galloway shares a lot of Trump's opinions on the problems with the economy and misguided college education. He's transformed into a cat lady. What a shame.
A doc friend was in Orlando last week at a conference where Galloway was speeching. She was disgusted by his endless F-Bombs and the dozen times he mentioned how filthy rich he is.
I explained to her he didn't have many punches in his man card and was exhibiting classic overcompensating small tool energy.
"I'd like to see 100 members of Congress go to the fucking building where this is and demand to go in and physically stop this, and let them arrest you."
Well they tried but Bob from Accounting said no and wouldn't let them in the door.
They're going after the youngsters? I'm about ready to sign up for Dixcus's newsletter.
Howard: "Galloway shares a lot of Trump's opinions on the problems with the economy and misguided college education. He's transformed into a cat lady. What a shame."
Totally agree.

The judge--an Obama appointee--issued the order ex parte. So none of those icky Trump government lawyers got a word in--he wasn't having any. And the order bars the duly appointed and confirmed Treasury Secretary from accessing his own department's data. A bit of judicial overreach there.
Who who who
Who who who
Who who who
Is couping who?
@Jupiter (2:30 PM), I assume the judge’s order extends to any foreign hackers who’ve penetrated Treasury computer systems?
I assume that the Trump team was ready for this. They seem to be very well prepared, in contrast to 2017. If it were up to me, I would have the "motion to vacate" filed and signed by the Attorney General (personally) and based on the President's authority under the Constitution. I'd set it up for an immediate petition for mandamus.
The pic makes me think your post title is “Who’s cupping who?”
JSM
An order that the Treasury Secretary cannot exercise his authority to run the Treasury Department is blatantly illegal. For that matter, so is any order that blocks any subordinate who works for him.
The "irreparable harm" standard is being severely abused. The judge's illegal order should be grounds to impeach him. He is abusing his position on the bench.
Even if the House can't quite make the vote, the process would serve as some punishment and a warning "pour encourager les autres". Surely he would be off the bench during his investigation and impeachment hearings.
On the other hand, a weeks long pause won't matter nearly as much to our new administration as the stench that is being smeared on the federal judiciary and the petitioners in this debacle. On public relations scoring, this illegal order is a a win for Trump.
Eva,
I have investments that generate tax benefits. The only place these are reported are on my tax returns, which are not supposed to by visible to AI or web search engines.
Galloway envisions himself to be a tough guy. He's just a Biden-esque blow hard.
1: District Court judges don't issue "major judicial orders"
2: No pause, no stopping. The order is illegitimate
3: I love to watch the same lefties screaming about Dobbs and Bruen now bloviating about "our sacred judiciary"
If the federal government in DC is doing things legally, why are Democrats freaking out because someone is looking into what they're doing?
I don't think I've ever commented here, tho I've read this blog (thank thee, RSS) for what has to be over 10 years, but I'm breaking my streak right now to post... that I also groom my ads so that they appeal to my interests. Now, for me, my ads aren't full of close up junk pics, but I can feel ya.
