"You know, in his farewell address, President Eisenhower spoke of the dangers of the military-industrial complex...."

"Six days — six decades later, I’m equally concerned about the potential rise of a tech-industrial complex that could pose real dangers for our country as well. Americans are being buried under an avalanche of misinformation and disinformation enabling the abuse of power."

Said President Joe Biden, in his farewell address last night.

There's a big difference between "military-industrial complex" and "tech-industrial complex." Eisenhower's phrase warns about the government and not merely private business. Biden's phrase only warns about private business. The "abuse of power" Biden identifies takes place outside of government, and he looks to government as a victim of abuse by private actors — citizens, speaking — and, potentially, as a cure — government, regulating speech.
The free press is crumbling. Editors are disappearing. Social media is giving up on fact-checking. The truth is smothered by lies told for power and for profit.

What about all the lies you told for power and for profit?!

We must hold the social platforms accountable to protect our children, our families and our very democracy from the abuse of power.

What about your abuse of power squeezing the "social platforms" to follow the narrative that served your interests?

MEANWHILE: On the NYT home page, we see Trump swooping in as the savior of TikTok:

It was social media that told us about the “free press” hiding Joe Biden’s mental decline. It was Joe Biden’s Intelligence advisors that lied about his son’s laptop being Russian disinformation. I agree we’ve been under an avalanche of disinformation and it leaves office at the end of the week.

Power isn't a thing. It's a confusion of four classical terms: officium, auctoritas, potestas and imperium. Make the power discussion say which is meant and it will shut down. Discussion depends on jumping from one term to another.

The problem is that the "industrial complex" crowd modeled the rest of government on the original MIC. We now have a Obamacare's Healthcare Industrial Complex (Transgender care = BIG PROFITS), the COVID/Global Medical Dictator Industrial Complex, the teacher's unions and $500K university admins Education Industrial Complex, the Black Denial of Responsibility Industrial Complex (equity/DEI), the Wall St.-401k Investing Industrial Complex (i.e., Pelosi's is such a brilliant investor...), etc.

Biden's handlers (speechwriters) are upset here because they've lost control over the press. They tried mighty hard to defend the status quo for 8 years, but faced clear defeat when Joe Rogan couldn't be canceled and when Musk bought Twitter.

It all makes sense when you realise that when he says "democracy" he means "our power." Nor is he intentionally lying when he says that (though I can't believe there is full self-honesty there). He means it. He thinks that his people running things unimpeded is synonymous with democracy. He does not fear the overthrow of the country, but of the Democrats.

Joe Biden's administration was working with Facebook, Google, and Twitter to censor American's free speech. Including banning Trump - his major political opponent and the former President of the USA. BIden still wants censorship and so does the Democrat party and the MSM.

Biden tried to put Trump in jail. He tried to work with the Democrat run social media to ban him from those platforms. He got the News networks to ban him from their channels. It wasn't until they had to, that they decided to give Trump a live interview.

How fitting Biden would lie and accuse others of what he has done. How fitting Biden would use the propaganda word "Disinformation" which means everything and nothing as an excuse to push for more censorship. Literally, the worst POTUS ever. Ever.

Progressives have no shame: instead, they have projection. Ethics and morality from a strictly tribal viewpoint. Appeals to universal standards are merely tools, useful in disarming opponents, not binding on the in-group.

I lived in the weapons belt of Massachusetts in the early '90s. I had a home, a job, and then one day, the USSR collapsed. Suddenly there was this thing called the "peace dividend" and the money stopped rolling in to Raytheon, Honeywell, etc, and real estate values collapsed, the unemployment rate was rising at 1% a month, I lost my job, I worked at a bank that went under due to the real estate crash, I lost my home in a short sale, and about $60,000. Anyway, I dealt with it, and moved on, and it has all worked out fine for me in the end, but the people who owned these companies? The people who own Raytheon and Honeywell, etc? They aren't just poor schmucks who have to deal with what life hands them.

"Can't sell our weapons because our enemy, the USSR is gone? Well, this Bill Clinton, he seems like a nice fellow who can be bought, we need a new enemy so that we can sell our weapons again, because this "peace dividend" is going to all the wrong people! By that we mean 'not us.'"

And as Bob Dylan said in "Masters of War," it was decided that after forgiving and converting the Germans to bring them to the side of God, now it's the Russians we must fight. And they fill the information space with disinformation in order to gin us up to fight in their wars. This way they stay rich and powerful. And you will never guess what, we have been fighting in wars ever since the fall of the USSR, from Yugoslavia to the Ukraine.

Oh, there is disinformation all right. Lots of it, designed by the CIA in the service of Joe Biden's puppet masters.

the reason that George H. W. Bush had to go, along with his Reaganite friends? Because they believed that the Cold War had ended, and we really should try hard to be friends with the Russians, and usher in the era of peace that they had all worked so hard to bring about. Bush Sr had to be dragged into Desert Storm, by Maggie Thatcher. This is why it was so important to get Bill Clinton elected. The purported peaceniks on this blog all hate Reagan and Bush Sr, but they were honorable men who wanted peace and tried to bring it about. The Democrats wrapped themselves in a false mantle of peacemaker, but they did it so that they could lead us into a new era of global conflicts, none of which, of course, were our fault. We just blundered into them, right? I don't know if the Democrat "contrarians" can really be so stupid as to not see this, or if they are part of some troll farm paid for by the MIC to support the Democrats.

Maybe instead of being concerned about tech oligarchs we should wonder why other industries in the US are not keeping up with tech and do something about that. But I guess the best we can do is pay ransom to the ILA luddites, and attach “everything bagels” to the CHIPS act, degrading its capacity and effectiveness.

Goodbye, Biden. Hopefully after Trump’s kakistocracy we can finally get somebody who understands the scope and scale of the problems we are facing.

Projection is the mainstay for a reason. It makes it hard for the normies to sort fact from narrative. First lie wins; think of these projection based narratives as spoiling attacks on the truth.

Spoiling attack: A tactical maneuver employed to seriously impair a hostile attack while the enemy is in the process of forming or assembling for an attack.

In this case, what they need to head off is any understanding of the way that things really are.

Other industries aren't keeping up with tech because those industries are tech's customers.
