I don't think I've ever watched an inauguration so closely. The indoor setting brings the focus to the individual faces...

Share your observations of the swearing in and the inaugural address.

ADDED: "I was saved by God to make American great again."

AND: Here's the whole ceremony:

Same. The indoor aspect has changed the inauguration into a kind of American royalty exercise.

I find it interesting that the family to the left of the podium have been called criminals, while the family on the right has a Presidential pardon.

Maybe not:

A disgorgement claim for government fraud bribery is a civil action that requires a wrongdoer to return funds they obtained illegally. The goal is to prevent unjust enrichment and make illegal activity unprofitable.

How it works

A court orders the wrongdoer to pay back the funds, often with interest and penalties

The funds are returned to the parties harmed by the illegal activity
Disgorgement is a remedial action, not a punitive one

Who can enforce it?

Regulatory agencies like the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) can enforce disgorgement

The government can also seek criminal forfeiture if civil forfeiture is available and the defendant is found guilty

Examples of disgorgement Insider trading, Embezzlement, and Violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA).

How much is disgorged?

District courts have discretion over how much money must be disgorged
Factors like the defendant's wrongful gain and the plaintiff's share of the profits are considered

doctrev said...

It's not merely that the Rats have given President Trump no incentive to honor their self-peddled amnesty. It's that the amnesty is in service of a criminal conspiracy that directly benefitted Biden, and is invalid for that reason among others. Really, the scale of the pardons illustrate that the federal judiciary as constituted is too weak to take on the conspiracy. When in the course of human events...

Jamie said...

Respectfully, Robert Cook, considering that "MAGA" was indisputably the motto of the first Trump campaign, before he had had any opportunity to deliver on the "make America great (for the first time)" idea that you're claiming he has to have fulfilled, it's indisputably untrue that Trump has to have already made America great in order to aim at that goal in this administration. More disputably, I suppose, a lot of people did think that his first administration resulted in a return to at least more American greatness than his predecessors achieved.

And - I think you're an atheist, is that right? I think you've said that before. You might want to refrain from commenting on what others believe in, whether or not you share their belief. What do you know about it? Your contention there appears to be based on your opinion that Trump's a narcissist - but, for instance, I think you've also been outspoken in your criticisms of Trump's intelligence, yet he (unlike Biden or Obama) indisputably chose a VP of intelligence and rhetorical skill, arguably greater than Trump himself possesses. So how would you square that choice with your opinion of Trump's narcissism?

Dr Weevil said...

Peachy:
Since the pardon thread is pretty much dead, let me copy here what I wrote there. It's very pertinent to what you just wrote:

- - - - - - -

It seems to me that pardoning Fauci and Hunter going all the way back to 2014 implicates Obama. As I've pointed out before, the "Big Guy" who got 10% of Hunter's "earnings" was not Joe Biden, as everyone seems to assume. Hunter himself complained that his father took 50%. That means that the Big Guy must be Obama: no one else could be called that in that context. Worth investigating!

As for punishment, it may not be possible to jail any of the Bidens, even Joe, but it seems to me that Congress could declare him a swinish failure of a pseudo-president and refuse to pay for a Biden presidential library or any kind of monument. Could they even forbid him to build a presidential library and pay for it himself? Worth a try! And if Obama is clearly implicated in any of the crimes Fauci and Hunter were pardoned for, cancel his library, too. I hear the people of Chicago don't want it, anyway.
