... I hit 3,000 posts for the 17th year in a row.
There were also more than 3,000 if you count the year from January 1, 2024 to December 31, 2024, but those numbers in the sidebar are what I've been looking at all these years. It's only this year that — after 20+ years — I noticed the numbers are aggregated by week, weeks that begin on Sunday, and years are simply 52 weeks.
And, in that light, the last day of "2024" is today, Saturday January 4th.
That means it is 10 days until the "bloggiversary," which is always January 14th, 2 days after my birthday, which it overshadows. It will be 21 years — old enough to drink, if blogs drank — and I'll point out again as I always do that I've blogged every day of all of those years. Oddly enough, there was never a single day when I wasn't completely in the mood to blog. I'm not doing this to set records, even if I do find the numbers amusing at times.ADDED: It's wrong to say "years are simply 52 weeks." That would only put 364 days in the year. So there are 1 or 2 straggler days that must be tucked in there somewhere!

Congrats and, I will add, "Not A Speck Of Cereal".
It's a terrific achievement to have so consistently maintained this level of quality in volume day after day.

Good thing it was a leap year!
It will be 21 years — old enough to drink, if blogs drank...
That doesn't mean you can't pop a cork and have a little bubbly.
"Oddly enough, there was never a single day when I wasn't completely in the mood to blog."
Really? There are many days in every year when I'm not in the mood to get out of bed.
Well done. You are officially not a padder.
Quite a record. You are justifiably proud.
Congratulations! It is my daily dose of sanity.
!!!!! Congrats to you and thank you from me
Congratulations and thank you!
Althouse literally represents someone who has been "tireless in her work." (Whereas when politicians invoke the "tirelessly" platitude, it usually means the wheels have fallen off the wagon during their tenure.)
So, if elected, I will give Althouse the highest civilian "civility is bullshit" award!

Speak for yourself! Isn't that from a dog food commercial? ;-)
Thank you!
Blogs may not drink, but they do have hangovers.
Sierra Hotel, Bravo Zulu, Well Done!
All Meat - Reference Frank Zappa.
Nice!
Althouse: "So there are 1 or 2 straggler days that must be tucked in there somewhere!" I don't think so, how would they even do that? No, the nerdy types that programmed Blogger decided that it was simpler to have an even 52 weeks, Gregorian pope be damned. Kind of like their forefathers decided that 2 digits were all that was needed for years, until y2K hove unexpectedly into sight.
Do you remember when you subbed for instapundit? That’s when I discovered you and have read most everything since.
"...and I'll point out again as I always do that I've blogged every day of all of those years."
I find that even more impressive.
Congratulations, prof! You started doing this so long ago that you even liked me at the beginning. Remember?
This may be proof we live in a simulation per Scott Adams. You need more blog posts and the simulation served up more bloggable news stories.

Please ma'am, might I have some more?
I agree -- congratulations.
And I agree with this sentiment, too.
Incredible accomplishment! Congratulations. I’m thankful there’s enough out there that intrigues you enough to write about them. Our world is immense.
3072 is the count to aim for. The computer sees it as a round number. It was also the raster width in the Stromberg Carlson 4060 microfilm printer, up from 1024 width in the 4020.
You do realize what the illustration looks like?

Well done. I have read them all.
Excellent job. Take big bites.
A bigger deal than Cal Ripken, Jr. as there are days off during the season and baseball isn’t played in the winter.
Early on the comment section was more like a rumble. I don’t miss it now but it was a lot of fun at the time.
Congratulations, and many thanks!!
Dear Ann (I hope I can call you Ann -- I feel that I know you after all these years, although hopefully you don't know me), thank you for years of enlightenment and entertainment.
This is up there with DiMaggio’s 56-game hitting streak
I would bet that every ~6 years, there's 53 weeks. The sidebar probably just used a formula to start on the first Sunday of the year every year, and when the first Sunday is on Jan 1st (or Jan 2nd if it's a leap year) the first Sunday of the following year is Jan 7, so the year organically has an extra week.
Your good and faithful service to your goal is much appreciated. Looking forward to the next day.
I'm sorry for not doing my part last year. I ofter lurk but I found so many of the comments devolved into a spat between a couple frequent trolls who spewed garbage (we all know the two or three I am referring to) and some of your "regulars" that I would just move on without reading more. There are a few left leaning posters that are engaging and I think that help the discourse, so I am looking for more of that. 74th birthday coming up in 8 days!
Congratulations - it's really difficult to face the blank page (or screen) and you do it repeatedly and successfully. It's truly impressive. I am grateful for the wisdom you provide.
Like most everyone else here, I salute your efforts and admire your commitment and look forward to your blog every day. This is a special place.
Congrats. Neither Lou Gehrig nor Cal Ripken could carry your bra.
Yes, 2023, 2017, 2012, and 2006 all had 53 weeks.
The first week began Jan 1, and the 53rd week began Dec. 31 in all cases except 2012, which was a leap year and thus the 53rd week began Dec. 30. That's why it was only 5 years between 2012 and 2017, that's the only span with two leap years.
Iron Horse!
It occurred to me today to suggest that maybe you could bank some time-insensitive posts, and the next time you are under the weather, you can use 'em and we won't even notice.
Hope you are feeling better! You are an amazing hostess.
Thank you Ann. I visit daily and greatly appreciate your commentary and wisdom.

Time insensitive subjects worth discussing:
- What is pass interference in the NFL? A catch?
- The Oxford comma: yea or nea?
- Regardless or irregardless?
- How do you pronounce the capital of Kentucky? Loo-is-vill, Loo-ee-vill, or Lull-vull?
Congrats Prof! You talked the talk and walked the walk in a way that not many can. I am trying to figure out how to maintain my own intellectual curiosity as I get older, and you are an impressive role model in that way. Thanks for what you do.
Congratulations! You’re one of my longest time feeds I follow, I love your thoughtful insights. Hope you keep going for a long time.
I would suggest posts about numbers of posts shouldn’t count :)
Also: wow, Blogger still exists!
I guess I'll add my voice to the hosannas.
Well done, and long may you post.
I'm curious about why 2013 was the "big" post year.
“ Yes, 2023, 2017, 2012, and 2006 all had 53 weeks.…”
Thanks. I get it now. It’s simply a system of counting by weeks, beginning each week on Sunday, and identifying the week by the date of that first day, so the week gets grouped within the year based on what year it was on the Sunday. Seems so simple now!
Congratulations to the trillennial. Althouse... Meadhouse is 3000 posts young.
Yes, exactly. You're welcome! It's pretty simple and elegant, and in a way that's well suited to computers.
When I was in college, I spent an afternoon studying the academic calendar and realized it shifted 1-2 days each year, and then every 5-6 years there would be an extra week in the summer and it would all snap back. Similar.
a bit OCD?

Blogger is using "work weeks", which is common for some companies. WW01 starts on the first Sunday or Monday of January, depending on your calendar setup options. And yes, some years have a WW53.
