"Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Thursday said he would appoint Ashley Moody, his state’s attorney general, to replace Marco Rubio in the Senate."

WaPo reports.

As state attorney general, Moody has aligned closely with DeSantis. Her office recently sued to keep an abortion rights amendment off the Florida ballot in November, and she also defended the state’s use of taxpayer dollars to advertise against the measure. The amendment, which DeSantis also opposed, was defeated. Moody also supported DeSantis’s controversial moves to use state funds to fly undocumented immigrants from Texas to Martha’s Vineyard and California to make a political point about immigration. In 2020, Moody backed a lawsuit filed by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton to block the election results after President Joe Biden defeated Donald Trump....

If the government repeatedly runs elections that look rigged and can't be checked, you're entitled to think that they're rigged.

Good for him. We could certainly do worse than a MFGA candidate.

A solid choice- she has won a statewide race before and has experience at retail politics required to win Senate contests.

That flight to Martha's Vineyard was a brilliant stunt. If there was any one day that won re-election for Trump, apart from the assassination attempt of course, that was it. More even than the McDonald's fry-cook stint and the drive in the garbage truck.

So Mr. Ego Desantis wouldn't put Laura Trump in the seat, so he gave it to a blank slate - his AG. Look for her to be another GOPe wishy washy type.

This. It's also great that the conservative bench nationwide is getting broadened and deepened by new ideological conservatives of the "right kind" that will pay dividends for decades to come while the democrats and left are saddled with an increasingly aged and unhinged socialist fringe.

Obama has been defeated, the Clintons are a practical non-entity, and it is looking more likely that future candidates (like Newsom) might get sidelined for incompetence or dead from a ham sandwich (like Pritzker) before 2028.

Makes sense since he ran against Trump in the primary, and criticized him from the Left. IRC, DeSantis refused to attack Smith and his DoJ lawfare witchhunt. He did criticize the FBI raid, but that was it. On Ukraine he was GOPe. Cross him off my list for 2028.

As Yancey notes, she seems solid having won statewide previously and having objectives similar to the President and the Governor. That should keep her in the job as long as she wants. That last isn't necessarily good, because it becomes corrupting.

We'll see, with time - but it was a much smarter move than putting Laura Trump there, politically.

Blank slate? She has a record in public office (federal prosecutor, judge, AG) going back quite a few years. And what are your specific objections to her besides the fact that her father-in-law isn't DJT?

I’m really loving the new crop of female conservatives, they can really tear into the left-wing democrats. Some of them are totally fearless.

You might want to read the article and look at her record before mislabeling her.

Some initially wanted Laura Trump, but her talents would be wasted in the Senate. Moody is well known in Florida politics, staunch supporter of Trump in the 2020 election fight, and solid AG who battled DC COVID mandates. Will she turn into a "GOP wishy washy type" in the Senate? It's certainly happened before. But until then, I won't let sour grapes cloud my opinion.

...the 12 MILLION illegal immigrants were imported using taxpayer dollars in order to be counted in the census as residents of blue states, so lefties can shore up their congressional districts, so skip the lecture on using illegals for political purposes...

As if there was ever a hope in hell that DeSantis would pick Lara Trump. Not in heaven or in hell.

tommyesq said...

Using state funds to fly illegal immigrants to Martha's Vineyard and New York was only controversial to liberals in Martha's Vineyard and New York. Everyone else thought it was brilliant.

Appointing Laura Trump would have just given the Dems more ammo with their base.

Only a tRump Swab of the highest order would think Lara Trump would be a better choice than Moody. The delusion goes on forever.

Marco Rubio's decisionmaking here seems suspect. Wasn't there a senator named Jeff Sessions who had some problems after leaving the Senate for the Trump cabinet? What ever happened to that guy?

Ashley Moody will be 50 this March, but looks 35. Female Republicans show that brains and good looks do not have to be mutually exclusive.

As for shipping migrants up to blue cities and Martha’s Vinyard, that’s the most brilliant political move the Republicans have done since they nominated Abe Lincoln in 1864.

Laura didn’t want the job.
