I just had dinner in a restaurant that had great food and service, but the music was obnoxiously loud, drum machine blasting bass, and devoid of musical ideation, as if it were produced by AI. It made my google why restaurants play obnoxious music, and it turns out that they do it to make you eat faster, like galley slaves rowing to the beat of a drum, it has been shown that people take more bites per minute when exposed to fast music. And noise creates stress, which also makes people want to finish their meal and leave. I just found this interesting, and I think I will only patronize that restaurant again for take-out.

Nothing like a tasty snack while catching the sunrise pic's. I thought it might be a cuppa joe.

Via Fox News: "Immigration authorities in Baltimore, Maryland, have arrested 153 illegal immigrant sex offenders this fiscal year, a record, with the latest being a Honduran man who was deported from the United States after he was previously convicted of raping a Maryland resident."

I thought Colorado was bad. Isn't VP Kamala Harris still border czar?

I went past a home on a busy corner in town. They are diehard Democrats besides the others I’ve mentioned before. Very “in your face.” Not one sign on their lawn. NOT.ONE. Will these people a) not vote at all, b) just hold their nose and mark Harris/Walz, or c) hold their nose and vote Trump/Vance? This is very interesting to watch.

I’m guessing they’ll vote Harris/Walz but don’t want to out themselves as losers.

Same reason why fast food places have uncomfortable seating.

I am nervous about the debate Tuesday. Glad work will keep me busy all day.

This is an old trick. This is also why music in bars is ALWAYS really loud. Loud makes you have to shout, in order to be heard. But: Shouting makes you thirsty.

Drinking in bars is not driven by thirst. It is driven by social discomfort and a desire to get drunk and get a leg over. Many bars do not play loud music.

CMA snubbed Beyonce's "country" album this year. Cue fit from JayZ in 3...2...1...

Hmmm. What kind of bars are you going to? I go to a few bars and not a one of them plays really loud music. If you don't like the loud music (I wouldn't) you should go looking for something better.

Still thinking about this. Now I'm guessing you mean LIVE music?

Eye of the Beholder Dept. - If every photographer/artist saw the subject the same way, everything would look the same and that would be boring. That said; while I greatly admire the light and magic of dawn at Lake Mendota, shared with us by Althouse and Meade, I sometimes lament that the focal point is so often 'dead' center.

In my eye, a dynamic, often dramatic, environment is made somewhat static. While the change is notable from top-to-bottom, my favorites are the ones that show light and dark changes from side-to-side - the way the eyes mostly survey the field of vision. Looking at the excellent picture of Ann, I wanted to move her a bit to the left of the sun with more open space in front. Perhaps convey she was moving toward a new day; not frozen in a specific instant.

Sometimes the evil editor in me forgets his manners. Appologies for any offense. None intended.

Haven't been to Vegas in about 20 years but it the 'old days', even good hotels were notorious for TVs that flickered and chairs with seating surfaces that tilted ever so slightly downward, back-to-front. They didn't want people getting too comfy in their room. They wanted you (and your $$$) downstairs where the action was.

The selloff of DJT stock has erased significant amounts of "paper" wealth for investors — including Trump.

Trump’s dominant stake of 114.75 million shares was valued at $6.2 billion on May 9. It’s now down to about $2.1 billion, a sharp drop that has knocked Trump off the Bloomberg Billionaires Index of the world’s 500 richest people.

The wipeout reinforces concerns raised by experts who have repeatedly warned that Trump Media’s multi-billion-dollar price tag defies logic. The company is losing money, generating very little revenue and Truth Social remains a relatively tiny player in social media.

The stock is worthless, so Trump doesn't really own $2.1 billion million in Social Media stock and his MAGA stockholders will shortly take it on the chin for another $1.0 billion or so. Only Donald Trump, who has nothing invested, and a few smart short-sellers will make money on this impending stock crash.

Even Donald Trump admits that the market value of the stock is overvalued but shortly, as Truth Social's rent-seeking majority shareholder becomes eligible to sell his stock, you had better believe he will.

One of the parents with children at the Apalachee High School, shot up by a 14 year old, said he had recently moved to Georgia from California. Yikes.

Fake news. Harris was never the border czar. She is just a Vice President, which makes her totally unresponsible and therefore iraccountable for any policy of the United States.

I'm sure Althouse doesn't think so, but the adorableness comes through.

The "Madame President" sign I mentioned down the street has gone. And I have been through a lot of (old) east Memphis in the last few days and seen almost no political signs.
