I have a soft spot for Leon Trotsky, but that is because of my enjoyment of George Orwell and "Road to Catalonia". Of course, any moderate Communist will be vilified as a fascist and assassinated.

How is she planning to pay for it? Talk about "Know Nothings," nobody knows.

One good thing is that our military, which is the foundation of the value of the dollar, the "bottom turtle" of our financial system will now take a back seat to interest payments on the debt in our annual budget. We can always fix that by lowering interest rates, but then we get hyperinflation. How do we fix hyperinflation? We break the "wage price spiral" by importing millions of workers to compete with American workers for jobs, suppressing wages, while of course the owning classes don't have to share the burden of this war on inflation.

And what of the workers who see that they are getting screwed by this strategy? Call them fascists! Call them losers! Call them racists! If you do this hard enough, you can get many of them to vote against their economic self interest and to vote for Harris!; 9/15/24, 10:50 PM

Personally, I don't think that a border dispute over who rules over a bunch of Russian speakers, who have in fact been fighting for a decade, since the coup in Kiev in 2014, to be ruled by Russia is worth even the 1% risk of nuclear war, but apparently the reckless thinking that we saw in Dr Strangelove is still pretty rampant.

Yeah, we will see the response that the Russian aligned militias in Ukraine are "illegal" and that the US declared that there is no civil war and that anybody still fighting over a coup that happened a decade ago is just a "terrorist," but that would be sort of like if England had declared a winner in our civil war before the fighting was done, hint: it wouldn't have carried a lot of weight. The militias held out for eight years before Russia joined the fight, and Crimea defected without a shot being fired, and seems quite happy to be living as part of Russia, just as it had been for all but 19 years of the past couple centuries. Tina Trent said...: Michael K: it will all come down to a few states. Unfortunately, Georgia may scotch it for the whole nation. I have toured the state speaking to groups, lobbying, and running for state office here for decades. I know the ground. Here are the issues:

-- Huge demographic swing left, including electorally liberal but personally conservative South Asians in key districts.

--Our governor, and even Secretary of State, have extended an olive branch to Trump. They run the state extremely well. Raffensperger has instituted significant reforms in voting. It remains to Trump to be civil and create a credible ground game here. He's left it to grifters and nutcases, and I speak as a very early and significant supporter of him, though one in the Ann Coulter camp -- that he really failed last time, acknowledging even the massive pushback against him. On crime and immigration, he failed. He better show some new commitment this time: token and frankly suspect black men (Vernon threesome Jones?) may talk a good game, but they aren't going to pull vote for him in meaningful numbers anyway. Conservative and working-class whites, not to mention some blacks and Hispanic citizens and Southeast Asians won't show up if he doesn't change his strategy and focus his ground game.

--Specific to Georgia, the Kochs, who run their NGO empire here and who want open borders, and the stealth or crazy Leftitarian defense lawyers who took over our GOP establishment, have already lost us the Senate and will lose us this election if we don't expose them and kick them to the curb. They convinced a lot of politically naive conservatives (naive only politically, because they spent their lives doing good things like raising families and working hard) to stay home in the last Senate Race: Steve Bannon and Jenny Beth Martin did this. Codependent Liars and grifters. The Kochs use their astroturfing AFP to intimidate and shut down opposition to illegal immigration, legalizing drugs, and cop-hating (local law enforcement). They are the enemy inside the gates.

--Voter fraud? Who cares? I spent 20 years in Atlanta, doing useless bullshit like poll-watching. I don't deny it exists, but a real ground game run by sane people, serious voter registration, get-out-the-vote, and debunking the AFP/Koch/Leftitarian goons talking people into not voting will be ten times more effective.; 9/16/24, 4:44 AM
