Madison Square Garden, filled with people who cheer for Donald Trump.

Wasn't that a security nightmare?

It's not The Donald's first UFC arena.

I must say, I liked Tucker better when he was a bit constrained by Fox News. I never thought I'd say that. But he's gone off a deeper end since he has resurfaced. Some of his interviews and interview choices...? Anyway, he is still important in some of the topics he's willing to take on. But parading around with Kid Rock, Dana White, and The Donald. To what end? More interviews? Firming up his adoring fans? Talking Veep and Cabinet posts with Donald? (er...let's see...Tucker, you can be Vice President, Dana you can be Secretary of Defense. Kid? Not sure yet.)

The parallels to Trump and professional wrestling are uncanny. Rewind him 40 years, put him on an aggressive weight loss program, add 60lbs of lean mass, dress him in a pink feather boa, and change nothing about his personality and you literally have Ric fucking Flair.

No wonder I love him so much.

That's Trump's "horrible base". I just hope all that enthusiasm translates to votes in Nov 2024.

But he can't draw a crowd! The NYT and several commenters here say so, so it must be true.

I'll bet everyone walked out 5 minutes later.

"Yeah, that's the ticket" (in my best Jon lovitz impression)

Donald Trump doesn't need to surround himself with barbed wire to keep Americans away from him.

Americans aren't trying to kill Trump.

I like the idea being floated of TuCa as VP.

Not sure how I would feel about him as actual vp. But I love seeing him proposed.

Cue fascist mouth foaming in 4...3...2...1

Temujin,

Obviously there will have to be a new post "secretary of rock 'N roll"

They can fold atf into it and make ted nugent undersecretary for guns, ammo and cross-bows.

C'mon people. We have to think outside the bpx

Oh no. The Trump Haters need to file another 2or 3 indictments quick. Looks like another insurrection to me.

It doesn’t matter if Donald Trump can get 75 million votes. Not if the semi-animated corpse of Joe Biden can shamble his way to 80 million votes and the Electoral College. It’s a big freaking country.

If you're expecting a good old fashioned Texas cage match, wouldn't you train?

I'll be happy if the world allows us to engage in this kind of fun and frivolity between now and next November. Events are unpredictable, especially recent events.

Balaji has some thoughts that might be of interest to some here. It doesn't involve the WWE. As always, he's willing to share what he thinks. I found it interesting.

Compared to a Biden rally, sure. One thing I wonder though... I keep hearing (even in the comments here) how divisive and disliked Trump is. Is this event an example of that, or what?

@Temujin (9:20), how about Kid Rock for Secretary of Education?

Trump's one minute walk to his seat with those particular friends to American Badass was funnier, edgier and more entertaining to watch than the entire SNL skit.

Yes indeed. Trump needs more than his adoring fans.
He must appeal to centrists, non-affiliated, and independents.
That he cannot speak clearly, and he spends much of his time hurling insults-->will not help him with those groups.

It would have been worse if he was advertised as appearing.

Now people are talking about a Trump/Tucker ticket.

If Trump didn't have such a huge ego, a Trump ticket would be a slam dunk with him in the VP slot.

I was reflecting about his decline last night. I think Tucker Carlson was surrounded by some really good professionals at Fox, even if he was writing his own broadcast script. It takes good research supporting this, and also good production values to flesh out a monologue, in addition to some good editing and structuring within the broadcast. Those first-rate production values kept him on point, but they are big-ticket items, and his current format highlights the distinction. He's using more of his own guidance now I think, and it has resulted in a decline of quality. I kind of shuddered when I heard he was interviewing Andrew Tate, for example - ugh (in all senses of the word). Too bad - I think Carlson has a good message and sound ideas, but they lose something when the format is flawed.

Paul said...

FJB! Do I need to say that louder?

Narr said...

Everything I know about Dana White and the UFC, and Kid Rock, is from seeing them on Tucker's FOX show. Those segments were like commercials to me. (Of course, they -are- commercials, but YKWIM.) I haven't kept up with any of them since he got canned, except White shows up on Gutfeld! now and then.

I knew about Trump outside of Tucker's exposure.

And now I know what "American Badass" sounds like, at least in part.

Productive morning so far.

Joe Bar said...

Apparently, some at the event were not as pleased at Trump's arrival. There's a picture floating around of Nia Hill, Bill Burr's wife, flipping him off.

Kerry won independents in 04, how did that work out for him? Ditto Romney in '12? It's not enough for any other GOP candidate to do well with centrists, non-affiliated, and independents, if they don't have sufficient support from the base.

Independents, if anything, are the least of Trump's worries. They aren't tied to any party, so they have no loyalty to Biden. They went for Trump by 7 in '16, swing to Biden by 7 in '20, and will likely shift back towards Trump in '24 simply because there's a pattern going back to 2000 of them shifting away from the party holding the WH.

Trump needs to win some independents, because every candidate does, but his base of support is large enough that he needs to win over the fewest of any candidate. He lost independents in AZ by 9 points in 2020, and still only lost the state by 11k votes. Same with GA. He only needs to gain 3 points among independents in those two states to win them. It wouldn't quite get him over the top in WI, but that's assuming Biden holds everything from 2020, which is highly unlikely.

Careful, Jim. Your envy is showing. Do you think Biden could fill MSG with ......anybody? And those wrestlemania folks you despise? They vote. That must really chap your elitist ass.

sean said...

A security nightmare? They have metal detectors at the entrance to MSG, and obviously everyone there has paid for a ticket: it's not a random crowd. I would think it is as safe as any public place.

It's not Americans Trump needs to worry about, it's some deep state patsy... Think Oswald, for example. Or maybe the Las Vegas shooter, we still don't know what his thing was, do we?

Security for political rallies is the least of our problems. No matter who is elected, the US faces imminent setbacks driven by military adventurism, massive deficits, racial hostility, the breakdown of our educational system, terrorism, infrastructure unreliability, and a sharply diminished sense of mutual trust.
The only consolation is that it's bad everywhere.

So, mission accomplished.

How odd that an adult "loves" and wants someone as president who behaves like "Ric fucking Flair." But then, I've always suspected that ardent Trump boosters included a high percentage of the kind of people who continue to watch pro wrestling after the age of 12 or 13.

RideSpaceMountain said...

Learn to laugh a little Cook. I'm beginning to detect a lack of irony. Much of the hype around professional wrestling is self-effacing...it's a way for men to both celebrate, riff, and make fun of archetypes surrounding masculinity.

This is something women can't do, and something gay/femme/drag men try to do with women while failing miserably.

So the real question is, do you wear panties Cook? What color?

Hassayamper said...

Security threat? Pssh. Anyone attempting to harm Trump or any of the others would find themselves the loser in their own battle royale cage match in short order.

I recall George Bush Jr. going to a gun show at some point in the 2004 campaign and giving his security people the heebie-jeebies. Normally no one with a gun is allowed within a half a mile of the President, of course. We right wing extremists were still part of W's base in those days (although that ship sailed long ago), and the President, to his credit, ignored the objections of the Secret Service and waded into the crowd where he was warmly greeted. If it came to it that day, he couldn't have been harmed by a company of infantry.
