"[Ryan] Carson was also a published poet – who once penned a poem called 'Anxiety' about fears over his own death – namely about the 'inconvenience' his passing would cause others."

"'That it could come while someone waits for me, that I couldn’t call to let them know I was held up,' he wrote in the poem."

From "NYC man, 32, fatally stabbed by unhinged suspect was do-gooder activist and poet" (NY Post)("'He’s really… like the epicenter of an entire community that he created, that he brought together'... the roommate said. 'He was the guy that bent over backward time and time again to be there with his friends'").

See also, "Disturbing video shows moment beloved activist, poet is randomly stabbed to death in front of girlfriend on NYC street" (NY Post)("Suddenly, the unhinged man turns to Carson and seethes: 'What the f–k are you looking at?' The beloved community activist – who replied that he wasn’t looking at anything – then stepped between his girlfriend and the irate stranger....'").

From the comments at the second link, the kind of victim-blaming that is, at its core, self-soothing: "Who sits on a bench on a street in Bed Stuy at 4:00 am."

Another next Dylan who didn’t make it. The feminist ladies love that act.

Gets you laid. However, it’s best to keep that act confined to some pastoral college setting, not Bed-Stuy. I speak from experience. I was the most sensitive SOB you ever met when I was 25.

Dying to get laid by some spoiled rotten feminist girl, I decided, wasn’t worth it.

Sad and tragic. Unfortunately I am also struck with thoughts inappropriate for the moment- along with poet on his…resume is ‘community activist’, the profession invented for Obama turned viral sensation. Or was he one of the many paid by Democrats to foment chaos in election years? Was defunding the police part of his agenda? Hey, don’t blame me, it’s listed on his CV…

Well, a good guy so they say…

Sometimes the victim is to blame.

Not completely or even majorly. But if you don't take minimal steps to protect yourself you certainly share responsibility for bad things happening to you.

Us there Enhanced sentencing For Murdering a poet?

If so, why?

If not why should I care that the guy is a poet?

Anyone, anyone at all can write poetry. It's trivial. Writing good poetry that other people want to read is the hard part.

Why is his being a poet important enough to mention?

It would take a heart of stone...luckily mine isn't. A hearty guffaw could be heard through chez RSM last night, especially after I found out the guy WAS a social worker.

P.s. before history rolls over it, Mr. "No no bro we're on the same side!" Ryan was a self-described member of antifa. You know, that organization that doesn't exist. It doesn't exist in the same way the thug doesn't exist. His knife doesn't exist. Sitting on a bench in Ben Stuy in NYC in a suit at 4am doesn't exist either.

With this event, will the left finally accept that mental illness is sometimes real? That some "lived experiences" are simply a life of confusion and violence? That some people truly must be locked up?

Nah...each and every utopian compassion ideologue must experience personal violence to learn. They are getting closer every day. One by one the left eats itself. Always happens.

Once upon a time, anyone who wanted to.

This is why I love aikido. It has no attacking moves; it is purely a defensive martial art. But a black belt Aikidoka would have planted that knife into the chest of the attacker while it was still in his own hand.

A little racism would have saved his life. Sad.

I saw the video yesterday and didn't know he died or what was going to happen. I reflexively winced when the couple started walking right after the man passed. It seemed like a bad idea. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I'd never want someone to think I was following them.

Whatever that man's political beliefs, he died defending the woman. That should be commended.

Will some other poet now summon his Muse,
Tune the lyre to the darkest key,
And sing for him his last sad song?

Each of us will someday sit
On a bench in Bed Stuy
After midnight in our Sunday best.

There are fire alarms all over NYC. Everywhere you look there's fire alarms. Fire alarms everywhere! There's too many fire alarms in NYC and Jamaal "a man who loves chaos" Bowman wants to pull them all. If only he'd have been in Ben Stuy last night at 4am, a young marxist might still be alive.

A few things come to mind, but the first one is...what a waste of life. An absolute waste of life.

Then...
>This is why some states allow concealed, or open carry laws. The criminals are armed. You best be prepared. No time to call the police for help when you're being attacked. If someone was coming at my wife...??? He'd be dead.
>Of course, only the most naive would be sitting on a bench in Bed-Stuy after midnight. After 2am. After 4 am. It begs for trouble the later it gets.
>The perp needs to be shut away for life. No dithering. No canceling of cash bail. No reduced sentence because his momma says 'He's a good boy.'

Poor guy, poor girlfriend. Poor family.

I wouldn't wish this on anyone. But it has to be noted that he once let a violent criminal go by "talking to him and giving him money."

In other words, he was so deluded and self-regarding that he intentionally endangered other people. Instead of making a police report, he let a violent criminal walk free to victimize other people, just to gratify his own egotistical worldview. There's nothing noble or selfless about that: it's grotesquely irresponsible. And it's even more repulsive that his friends prattle on about how doing it was a good thing after another free-range criminal murdered him.

He emboldened criminals, then was killed by one. No lessons learned by anyone involved.

Aggie said...

Notice how he's described as a 'beloved activist and poet', which carries just a slightly different connotation to 'Antifa'. Kind of like 'austere religious scholar', instead of 'known terrorist with an American body count to his name'.

Andy Ngo and his followers are having a field day. Several very woke, very bougie White people were murdered by Black men in the past week or so. On Twitter and Reddit and, probably, real life, there is very little sympathy for these people who embraced racial justice action, supported BLM and Defund the Police and, foolishly, continued to live in communities destroyed by the policies they championed.

Literally no sympathy at all. These deaths are being filed under the "humor" section at 9gag. Apparently, it's funny that Pava LaPere's final words were "I'm on your side."

The grit on my legs marking my distance is distorting my sunburns into streaks.

(From one of his "poems").

The uncensored video gives a different impression than the initial one that was released. I am guessing the victim either knew or was acquainted with the killer. There is a second woman who seems to know the killer (she calls him something that sounds like "Brian") and she has an odd rapport with the girlfriend (the girlfriend says "keep an eye on him (the killer)" and the woman repeatedly apologizes.

My impression from the uncensored video is that the girlfriend knows who the killer is or how to find him and is refusing to cooperate with the police.

I feel sorry for the guy but for every leftist activist who dies by his own folly, hundreds of innocent people are murdered by the "Brians" of the world who they enable.

rcocean said...

He looks like a big guy, which probably made him over-confident. BTW, I love all the monday morning QB's trying to blame the victim.

If only he'd had a gun (not possible in NYC), if only he'd done a karate kick, or a back-flip sommarsault blah blah blah.

I agree he showed poor situational awareness. You see a black man on the streets of NYC at 4 AM. And you immediately follow him. Crazy. When you see people like that walking around a big city street after 2AM, you stay as far aways as possible.

Sorry he died. But at least we were spared his comments from the Hospital bed about how he hoped "racists" and "fascist Trump supporters" wouldn't use this to increase Police spending or more law and order.

The Crack Emcee said...

Does anybody know how to fight anymore? Or even persuade? I've gotten out situations with guns. This guy just had a knife. The victim was bigger than the attacker. He had reach on him and everything. He could've knocked him out without worrying about getting too mussed up. Instead, he ran without checking his surroundings, tripped over a bench, and made himself totally vulnerable.

I don't get it. Even at my age, mothafuckas fuck with me and they recognize - immediately - it's not worth the trouble.

That was one of the first things I noticed after living overseas for a couple years: this ain't Yurp, and even though they started two world wars, we ended them, so, when you're here, you better look like you know something - or else. I'm serious.

We're still the real gunslingers.

Yancey Ward said...

It isn't wrong to point out how foolish this young man was- I would do so even if Carson were a right-winger. The instant the assailant starting kicking stuff up ahead on the sidewalk, the victim and his date needed to turn around and walk the other way very quickly. In fact, there is literally no fucking way at all that they should have gotten up from that bench and followed behind that guy at 4 in the morning. The victim did literally everything wrong there from a safety point of view.

Jupiter said...

Well? What the fuck was he looking at?

Yancey Ward said...

And I can't help but theorize that the victim deliberately chose to get up and follow the perp that closely because he wanted to show his date that he wasn't a white racist stereotyping black guys walking on the street at 4 in the morning.

For all I know, the victim was LoneJustice.

As some have speculated, he wanted to show he wasn't one of the 'bad guys', all paranoid and stuff, who wouldn't be out on the streets after midnight and all.

I'm starting to think that a lot of these folks have no real self-protection instincts. And though that sucks for the people who've got to clean up after them, it at least gets them out of the gene pool a bit quicker...

Personally I'll take D) all of the above.

all of you people here should be ashamed of yourself. Seriously. Look at how you’re speaking about this man OVER POLITICS?
These comments are just horrid and nasty. You can’t even show grace or class when someone who supports a different party passes horribly and tragically, all over politics. So warped that you can’t even understand that a man lost his life so tragically instead you decide to victim blame and make fun-
God would be ashamed. By all of you,

Matthew 5:43-45:

Plesse. Do better. Respect this man. And if you find this offensive..
you need to look in the mirror and see if you would like it if your brother or sister had these comments written about them in their death after being murdered and attacked STABBED in the streets of New York.

Thanks.

Sorry, June- I got little sympathy for someone clearly too stupid to survive. It really isn't politics, though there is a certain amount of irony given the victim's. If he had had just a little common sense he would be alive this evening. His death was almost as self-preventable as any OD. Carson should serve as a warning to young people in these cities, not as a model.

Hello Mr. Troll. Extra points for quoting the New Testement. How do you know we aren't all atheists and Jews?

Tina Trent said...

June: he posted ACAB propaganda (now wiped), opposed incarceration, hated police, endangered his girlfriend, and let at least one violent offender walk before this encounter, imagining he had miraculously cured him.

So his actions in the past endangered God knows how many other people. They didn't help his killer either.

If he had called the police instead of trying to "reason" with a homicidal maniac this time, the homicidal maniac and he would likely be alive today, and the homicidal maniac might not be facing murder charges. So yes, his irrational hatreds of authority and police destroyed at least two lives. That's nothing to admire.

I care about criminals. They are usually products of abuse. It's people like this guy who are the real problem.

There are many potentially successful defensive moves when facing an attacker armed with a knife (I'm a second degree black belt in Tae Kown Do). However, the first, second, and third lines of defense should be to avoid the confrontation, defuse the situation, and finally to get the hell out of there. This clown failed on all counts. This was NOT an inevitable outcome by any means. All the Aikido training in the world wouldn't have made this fool any smarter or safer. Plus, he was 100% on drugs at that time of night. Probably booze and cocaine, and likely other things.
