Upstairs to downstairs texting at Meadhouse.

I need to contextualize that last remark. It all goes back to something I reminisced about and blogged in 2014:

The phrase "jacking up" normally goes with opposition to taxes, so it's a humorous flip to use it when you're actually in favor of more taxes. I'll never forget the time, back in 2010, when we watched the Obama rally from the TV set up on the Union Terrace, in a big enthusiastic crowd of mostly students. I wished I'd caught this one guy on video. Upon some mention of taxes, he stood up facing the crowd and yelled "Taxes?! I say jack 'em up!!!" He did this with a big, clownish, full-body gesture that ended with arms aloft and thumbs up. Meade and I have been imitating that guy for years. For the drunk-on-beer/drunk-on-Obama Terrace crowd, maybe it all seemed like a dream or a joke. Need money? Get money! Jack 'em up!

In Colorado - voters ALWAYS vote for more programs and goodies - Then they always vote DOWN the tax increases needed to fund those programs and goodies.

Hilarious.

Go blue state a-holes! It's for the children.

No more. Now it's, "Deficits?! I say jack 'em up!!!"

Then there's this ...

Buy Now & Pay Never

It's great to have married in-jokes. I can imagine your delight when the situation teed up such a perfect opportunity for that one.

Redistributive change through progressive prices, progressive taxes, immigration reform. There's more than one way to skin the baby.

Being honest here. Just responding based on title.
Love it when I am up in the morning in the library and the wife texts me to take the dog outside! Wife is a night owl, me not so much.

Read yesterday that National Guard troops are not getting paid on-time for Christmas and have to wait until after the first of the year. That sucks.

Merry Christmas.

Seen on the PowerLineblog "This Week in Picture":

How many Democrats does it take to change a light bulb?

None. Biden tells them he fixed it and they all sit in the dark and applaud.

Found that in several places.

This will not be mention in the Regime media ever.

I find this fascinating - how couples or families adopt a phrase gleaned from the media, making it a couple/household in-joke or part of the lexicon. My partner and I have many. Here is just one: Jim Jeffries (comedian) has a great bit describing the time he and his young son both got food poisoning. The son is spewing vomit and diarrhea as is Jim. Son is too young to understand his condition is temporary. Looks up at his dad and says: "I guess this is me now."

LOL cracks me up writing this out. Every time we find ourselves in a less than desirable position/situation we say: "I guess this is me now".

Jacked up has multiple meanings for me ... usually something that is very messed up/destroyed/broken is jacked up. Then I think of prices as jacked up, as in gas prices recently were jacked up. Never thought of jacked up in terms of taxes, but that's the same as prices.

Back in the day, ESPN would show football highlights of a player getting destroyed and the announcing team would yell "jacked up!" in unison. Very inappropriate nowadays.

"Upstairs to downstairs texting at Meadhouse."

I remember in the 1960s when my father would tap on the bathroom radiator pipes upstairs with coin to tell my mother downstairs that he got us kids ready for bed.

"Under my plan of a cap-and-trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket, regardless of what I say about whether coal is good or bad, because I'm capping greenhouse gases," Obama said. "Coal power plants, natural gas, whatever the industry was, they would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that money onto consumers."
When they tell you they will lie and "jack 'em up", take their word for it.
Has Meadehouse set thermostat to 60 per WIenergies request?
Damn that decreasing baseload energy production. Leaves little margin for failure.

Speeching of taxes. I was glad to see all the tricks Trump used to pay no federal income tax.

I'm sure it's all perfectly legal as designed for the Davos billionaires by the GOPe and DNC. Of course, the MSM will not make that obvious point that the real criminality is Congress, not the bloated bloviating bellicose baby.

Knight's tweet isn't "jacked up." It's critiquing U.S. priorities.

"Has Meadehouse set thermostat to 60 per WIenergies request?"

I had to look that up. I'd never heard of that.

I see this: https://spectrumnews1.com/wi/milwaukee/news/2022/12/24/we-energies-natural-gas

"We Energies, a major Wisconsin utility company, lifted its request on Saturday asking customers to reduce their natural gas usage and lower thermostats to 60 to 62 degrees."

So, the request is withdrawn, but also We Energies is not our provider. And in any case, we keep the thermostat at 62° during the day and 50° at night. So we were already doing it.

The reason for the request was that "the pipeline providing natural gas to We Energies' distribution network experienced a "significant equipment failure.""

That problem is over.

"Jacked Up" has not only the football meaning mentioned by Art in LA, but also in Cop slang (as taught by police procedurals): "Starsky & Hutch are gonna' swing by Sneaky Pete's crib and jack him up."

John Clifford said...

'Jack' is short for hijack, i.e., rob. "Jack'em up!" is synonymous with "Rob them!"

It's not about making taxes higher, it's about taking from others.

Differing tax rates creates new groups of people able to vote themselves money without paying more themselves.

That gives an unstable political system.

It might be better to leave the children a stable economic and political system.

Yes, Lucien, that is exactly what Starsky and Hutch would do at someone's crib!

Some would say taxes are jacked up in the physically violent sense too.

-- " added a new tax. That jacked me up! Jacked up my monthly budget too."

Taxes are taxing, right? LOL.

I should’ve mentioned that was Rh’s comment in that post Althouse reminisced and linked to.

Pick a side. So which is it? Is Ukraine a hotbed of fascism, as the Kremlin and its supporters insist? Or is it a tolerant democracy, as Kyiv and its supporters insist?

Jack is also a common nickname for John, as was the case with JFK. Has John Clifford ever been called Jack?
