"When I first started my foray into poly, I thought of it as a radical break from my trad past... But tbh I’ve come to decide the only acceptable style of poly is best characterized as..."

"... something like 'imperial Chinese harem'... None of this non-hierarchical bulls–t; everyone should have a ranking of their partners, people should know where they fall on the ranking, and there should be vicious power struggles for the higher ranks.... I’m less hedonistic and more masochistic. I get a lot of pleasure from doing things that are hard, unpleasant, physically taxing, or emotionally painful..."

So wrote Caroline Ellison, quoted by the NY Post in "Sam Bankman-Fried ex Caroline Ellison made ‘foray’ into ‘Chinese harem’ polyamory."

Ellison has whatever legal/financial problems that motivated the press to go reading her now-deleted Tumblr account. I realize that I'm piling on by quoting what the NY Post chose to quote, but I want to say that we're not able to tell how speculative/humorous this statements might be if we had the context to know what kind of writer — what kind of person — Caroline Ellison is.

I think it's smart and interesting to say that non-hierarchical polygamy is bullshit, and it's effective rhetoric to hypothesize that it's worse than "vicious power struggles for the higher ranks." She narrowed the issue to what kind of polyamory is best and set up a stark contrast between 2 forms of polyamory. It seems like an argument against polyamory. If the "vicious power struggle" is the "only acceptable" form of polyamory, the best choice seems to be no polyamory at all.

But she also tells us she's "masochistic" and gets "pleasure" from what is "unpleasant." And "vicious power struggle" sounds quite unpleasant, so maybe that is the best choice for her. But I would stress that this is a young person exploring her feelings in writing or — perhaps — writing to impress certain readers. I felt motivated to refresh my memory about why Anne Desclos wrote "The Story of O." It was to prove to her male lover that she could write the kind of thing that he admired.

I am very able to tell how humorous this might be.

Where does "sultry wood nymph" rank in the Imperial Chinese Harem model of polyamory? Or was ICH another crypto offering in Alameda's portfolio?

Masochistic minds are dying to know.

My former boss at the world’s most powerful corp law firm is the point man for the SBC scam. He was also point man for the gay marriage scam. And the Liz Holmes scam. He’s a busy guy.

After the 2014 coup, the CIA/State Dept. dispatched teams of advisors to teach the Orthodox Catholic Ukrainians how to be properly Woke, i.e., feminist, gay worshipping, trans advocates.

Fag hag feminism is now the spearhead ideology of CIA imperialist wars. We’re ready to fight an all out global nuclear war over this ideology.

My sincere first question is whether the childlike Caroline Ellison has been taking puberty blockers...

There's a reason why structured societies gravitate toward monogamy (with often-tolerated secretive side relationships) -- it has proven to be pretty sustainable and it highlights the messiness of other relationship formats. No needs for religious explanations, just due to universal emotions, plus desires for stability and predictability.

The cats will win the vicious power struggles and assume all the higher ranks.

From what I can tell, these folks are not even remotely attractive in a sexual way. Having a harem of women like that seems akin to selling at a loss and making it up in volume.

I’ve seen photos of her and, not to sound crass, I’d imagine her appeal is limited.

There's a comfort in hierarchy, in knowing where you stand. And given her position at FTX, we have to consider that she may have favored "vicious power struggles" because she was confident she'd win them.

A line I heard at a party many years ago that's stuck with me--the good ole boy system is great if you're a good ole boy.

This is the one who did amphetamines, right? And whose toy corporate entity (a crypto trading operation?) made insane bets that blew up? And she “borrowed” billions from SBF to cover them? Which may have brought down his empire?

Yeah, she’s a charmer.

Not when it involves vegan leather harnesses, as their particular sex lives almost certainly did. They even tossed in polycule for good measure.

SBF frequently wore shorts in public. Enough said!

After seeing her photo I can see why a power generated heirachy is her preferred style. Money and corporate position = power when her looks do not.

Is that hopelessly sexist? Sorry? Not at all.

Following up on Dave Begley, all SBF posts should have a "men in shorts" tag.

Think of the movie.. REVENGE OF THE NERDS

The Amazing thing is: these two little twerps were able to scam "intelligent" people out of BILLIONS
At least Elizabeth Holmes was sort of attractive, well; a blonde anyway. But WHY would you Ever let either of these two twerps into your office? Unless you had a thing, for sultry wood nymphs?

Anyone who writes anything *might* be joking. Why does Ellison in particular warrant being thrown this lifeline? Further, it seems a bit retrograde to speculate that maybe she was only writing these things to please a man.

He owned his personal style and it was a good message if people knew how to understand it. Which they didn't. Because they were listening to their own (greedy) hopes 'n' dreams.

Let them now enjoy their own stupid genius-god in short pants. I think it's very funny.

She doesn't pass my 'shoe store manager' test. How could any breathing adult, IF they did their homework on SBF and his people, give them one dollar to invest?

She was SBFs CEO of his investment arm. Yet she had zero background in finance, or anything else of substance apparently. And if you listen to her you're almost embarrassed at how vacuous she sounds. Not to mention how childlike she carries herself.

If I owned a shoe store and needed to hire a manager to help me out, and this person came in to interview, she would not have gotten the job to manage my shoe store. Yet she was in charge of lending out billions of dollars and bringing in....?

She, like John Fetterman, would not pass my shoe store test. Yet John Fetterman is a Senator now. And Caroline Ellison may end up in jail, but in the meantime, probably managed to stash away a billion here and there. Standards, people. They count.

It is interesting to me that for all his billions SBF still selected females that were roughly as attractive physically as he was.

He could have had much more attractive females than he did. Much of the world female population would probably have sex with him occasionally if that was the price to live in a 30 million dollar bahamas mansion.

But they still followed all of the base primal sex selecting patterns.

She must be one of those people that could, in a phrase I’ve heard attributed to Willie Nelson, “suck the chrome off a bumper hitch”.

Jefferson's Revenge said...

Achilles- I too am baffled by the sexual selection method of many our elite. In a weird way, it may be one of the signs of the lowering of standards society. Why go the the trouble of amassing a fortune if she is the best that you can do?

I used to work for a guy who knew how to do it. This is back in the 80's.He was very wealthy and in his 50's. Dressed well, never drank, impeccable manners. He would get married every 5-6 years to a Playboy model caliber person. His wife was always classy as well. He was average in looks but made up for that with manners.

He would find ways to get an introduction. Someone he knew would vouch that he was a gentleman and was to be taken seriously to the lady. He would then find generous ways to make the women's lives easier. They would eventually get married but he would make it clear there was an end date to the marriage and that she would be treated very well in the end.

As far as I could tell, everyone was happy.

Or, from a different perspective ; Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe vs. Clinton and Monica Lewinsky.

"I want to say that we're not able to tell how speculative/humorous this statements might be if we had the context to know what kind of writer — what kind of person — Caroline Ellison is." However much the chumps had it coming for investing in this mess, I respectfully suggest that with something like $16 billion in uncovered debt, funds disappeared through programmed 'back doors', and a smoking ruin left behind, I think we have a very good idea what kind of person she is. That she would extend her thinking to 'polyamory in different terms' is in character, whether it was in jest or in earnest.

The Willie Nelson quote is real. He said it in a movie in, I guess, the 80’s. Forget the name.

Willie Nelson had a bit part in “The Electric Horseman,” a 1979 film starring Fonda and Redford. I paid good money to watch that utterly forgettable entertainment —but Willie’s big line was etched into my memory.

This woman was involved in one of the greatest frauds in history. But because she is a young woman, and not even an attractive one, The discussion is about her sex life. Who cares about this young woman’s personal, loathsome depravity? That is mod the generational norm, sadly.

How did this gigantic scam happen? Where did the money go?

Those are the interesting questions.

The only interesting issue related to her is: What was her involvement in the fraud?

It's funny, yet it's also sad. But that's human nature (and the nature of bubbles).

What's scary is the bubble that is our entire financial system. We have stupid genius-god people in suits running the Federal Reserve, the one that is printing and spending money that does not exist.

When that bubble bursts, we're all going down.

I never knew of her before this latest news. When I first saw a video of her, the appearance, sound of her voice, and speech pattern didn't impress me. I wouldn't have hired her for any position. Even administrative or janitorial, she didn't come across as a person I'd trust in my office space that might contain important information. That she convinced many people to trust her with billions of dollars tells me a good deal about those people. And it is even more reasonable to me to that some of those people gave her trust because of her open sexuality and their low standards for sex.

Well... the problem I always stated with polyamory is that it's hard enough just keeping one woman happy. With a hierarchy, you still only need to keep one woman happy, and treat the other(s) like a cumdumpster. This, however, sounds even less sustainable over time than a regular(?) model of polyamory. In fact, it doesn't sound very harmonious at all, given that we are told polyamory is supposed to be a "natural" way for humans to conduct themselves.

The first question is easy to answer —. the sort of self-dealing that ordinary banking regulation prohibits. The missing third, and most important, question is how much can we recover?

Owen said...

Can we hear from the Bahamian authorities, who reportedly took SBF “into custody” until he hacked back into his firm’s accounts (AFTER the bankruptcy filing when everything is supposed to be locked down)? He gave them stuff: presumably a ton of cash. In return for what? What did they do with it?

Are both SBF and this polyamorous idiot both alive, well and under proper restraint?

Makes you miss the 1970s, when we could count on Hugh Hefner to do a Playboy cover and nudie layout of her next month. Now we are left with an imaginary image of the woke generation’s sex symbol. Serial monogamy is a far better way than musical chairs with a cluster of women.

But should we really trust these excerpts? Have the 51 ex-CIA experts weighed in on whether or not they have all the earmarks of Russian disinformation?

Sam and Caroline were already networked. Their parents knew people who knew people and that helped America's fun couple get their feet into a lot of doors that get slammed in other people's faces. And of course, it was Sam who needed to get through the doorway. Once he was in he could take Caroline with him.

Also, one thing brought up in the Elizabeth Holmes documentary is that venture capitalists are often looking for a story, a compelling narrative, rather than looking at finished products or financial statements. They've come to accept that geniuses are eccentric and erratic and don't fit into conventional society. Goofy, weird, and crazy aren't necessarily drawbacks in the tech world or the quant world.

For her the sexual heirarchy was about control, which speaks volumes. I'm 99.99% sure she wasn't in particularly great demand from the more attractive boys in high school and college and now that she had power and money, albeit fraudulently obtained in both cases, she was going to use that to control others, especially men who previously wouldn't be interested in her.

Of course if the genders are flipped the #metoo crowd would be screaming about the patriarchy and sexual harassment, and while the latter is true the silence of them when you have an abuser with two X chromosomes is telling.
