Chuck Schumer tells Cory Booker: "Frank deserves the time and respect to make his own decisions."

Let the 89-year-old Senator Frank R. Lautenberg decide when it's time to yield to the younger generation, the Dems are saying to the 43-year-old Newark mayor. They're saying that publicly anyway. I'm sure nobody wants to get caught showing any disrespect for the the old man, despite the absurdity of his intransigency. Privately, they must be dying for him to go.

Meh.

Maybe they're afraid of Booker. He's shown he can be bullied back into party line, but he's also shown that sometimes his first instinct isn't the party line.

Thankfully, the old white Senators in Wisconsin (Hi Herb!) know enough to retire.

Then came Cory A. Booker, the 43-year-old mayor of Newark, whose 1.3 million followers on Twitter and robust presence on television had given him a reputation as a rising star in the Democratic Part

No doubt 8% of those 1.3 million Twitter followers are actually real.

So an old white guy is keeping a younger black man down?

One of the inherent advantages (to Dems) of national healthcare: they can cut off medical treatment for these old farts that stand in the way of their progress.

Chuck's planning ahead, laying the groundwork. He for sure isn't going to let himself get pushed out before he gets carried out.

Going forward perhaps there is only one solution to the problem of political leadership in 21st century America.

Re-elect no one, ever.

Tribal solidarity perhaps, but not racist.
But also a New Yorker from that cesspool of politics sticking his big nose into the New Jersey cesspool of politics. Not-Schumer's-turf.

It's New Jersey, right?

Toricelli, Corzine, Menendez, and Lautenberg, Christie, et al...pick one that isn't a crook or a pandering bull-shit artist?

Oh, wait...

about a few more guys who were both Democrats and Republicans, too. Let's see...we can start with Robert Byrd and David Duke ... ":-))

Pssst: I never saw a group any more "white" than Obama's 2012 campaign team. Did that photog get lost and wind up at a Tea Party shindig or sumpin'?

As you were, carry on... :)

Aridog, just sayin it's not all old white Dems.

For the record the makeup of Obama's team is fair game from where I stand.

Democracy? Let the voters decide? Hell no, we're Democrats. Decisions like this are properly the purview of old white men. So go to the back of the bus, where you belong, boy.

Thanks for clearing that up, Dems.

I see Calypso caught you. Hook, line and sinker. Thurmond died 10 years ago. We're beyond that now, but, as usual, the Democrats are stuck in the past.

Well, except for the fact that your example isn't actually serving in the Senate or even alive.

For the record the makeup of Obama's team is fair game from where I stand.

To be fair, even though almost wholly non-black, his campaign team is relatively diverse. It's an expression of what and who Obama is...first, he is for Obama and only Obama, beyond Obama color is immaterial....and second, no one is more mendacious. No one.

He feigns, now, that he was disturbed to find out people in his White House were ignoring his **purported** position on guns for Syrian rebels...vis a vis Benghazi, inconveniently.

Obama is lying of course, because the person doing all that was/is John Brennan and Obama want shim to head up the CIA next. Ole John was operating with JSOC assets, by-passing the Pentagon and CIA. Pretty hard to believe Brennan didn't have an Obama buy in to utilize his CIC authority...especially given the out-of-channels method....in short, given such orders, someone at JSOC would have back checked with the White House. Brennan is a regular modern day Robert Komer of MACV-SOG-CORDS fame.

That should bother us. The danger is that it doesn't bother those in power very much. They talk a peace-game, but carry out the blood letting clandestinely, outside the normal chains of command, with zero transparency ... it is just easier to manage the publicity & **plausible deniability** that way. Allen Dulles would be proud. Mistakes and collateral deaths by drone and other operators is unreported, but a drone strike allegedly killing al-Alwaki is trumpeted.

I never thought I'd see it all happening again in my lifetime.

Dang...I seem to need to post and retract thrice just to edit correctly...sometimes. :-(

sakredkow said...

Aridog I don't know if you got the goods on Obama or not. I'd like to hear from the defense before voting guilty.

Your idea though that Obama is the most mendacious person doesn't square with my very subjective impression of the man. I'm not saying he's guileless, and I know he's a politician who has some hard ball skillz, but I just don't see him as mendacious.

Aridog said...

phx said ...

... but I just don't see him as mendacious.

How about his position, through at least 9-16-2012, that a protest ran amok in Benghazi, and that it was not a planned attack by insurgents? Is it possible that he really didn't know, that no one in his whole administration told him...maybe at least about the mortar shells that killed the last two Americans?

And that's just one example...don't give me a headache and make me find more instances of his deceptions....like "you can keep the insurance you have", etc. et al ad nauseum.

I know math is not a liberal strong point but I think that might be two words.

Booker should run. His move is to be the anti-obama. He can run as a "real" black man.

Plus he would be our second gay President.

Two for one!

Baron Zemo said...

That is when he ran for Presdent. Which he would do. And win. I mean being a Senator for a couple of weeks is all you need right?

Joe Schmoe said...

"his signature accomplishment is the law that banned smoking on airplanes"

Well, John Kerry parlayed fewer accomplishments than that into a cushy Cabinet position.

Aridog said...

phx ...I missed a point that you didn't remark about:

Do you think it is remotely possible that a deputy National Security advisor could run black ops through JSOC, by passing CIA and Pentagon, without his knowledge?

Is it likely that if said deputy did all this without permission he'd be subsequently nominated and promoted as the next D-CIA?

It is plausible deniability only as much as the knowledge of the Phoenix Program was under Robert Komer and CORDS, for both LBJ and Nixon. Does anyone believe LBJ and Nixon didn't know? Would Col. (later Maj Gen ...sacked by Carter) Singlaub not have told somebody beside Komer about the program?

And I am asking this as a guy who thought Phoenix was okay, given the circumstances...but that the Strategic Hamlet program was idiotic, ignorant, and misguided enough that it contributed to the eventual loss in Vietnam.

In hindsight, I see a horrible parallel between CORDS and a potentially rogue JSOC today...and my opinions are changing.

Joe Schmoe said...

Baron! You were saying Booker was going to beat Christie for guv next time, and now he's fighting just get into the Dem senate primary.

Wah-wah. Go Giants.

garage mahal said...

But, what about Benghazi?

Methadras said...

Lautenburg is the typical cartoon cutout of the politician who will not leave because the perks are really great. Cause he's not doing it for the money. Plus, they need the D to be in there so a shake-up in the senate doesn't happen if Cristy decides to put an R in his place because you know that's what they are thinking.

Baron Zemo said...

He is not fighting to get in. The plantation owners are just trying to hold a brother down.

Don't worry. He has enough dead voters in Newark to win a primary.

This is Barack Obama's America yo!

As a registered Democrat, I have no hesitation in saying that there have been some horrible human beings who were Democratic politicians. David Duke's status as a monster of a person hopefully doesn't even require discussion.

And I'm relieved Byrd is finally out of the Senate. The poor form of speaking ill of the dead notwithstanding, my only two regrets are that (1) he didn't live long enough to be forced to resign in disgrace, and (2) that the good people of West Virginia didn't have the grace to throw him out of office decades before.

Trying to get votes to pass legislation is not worth the price of having a Robert Byrd in the Senate.

But, what about Benghazi?

Garage had nothing better to do at 1:54 PM.

Lautenberg retired once and he is only in the Senate due to the NJ Supreme Court invalidating part of their Constitution. If my memory serves me right, Torecilli was going to lose and he removed himself from the ballot less than 90 days before the the general election. The NJSC allowed Lautenberg name to placed on the ballot.

Democratic voters have no morals.
