About 30 times more Republican activists are tied up helping Walker win his recall race than helping GOP front-runner Romney win the nomination, [Romney campaign co-chair Ted] Kanavas estimates. Romney's campaign has only one office in Wisconsin, compared to the 21 opened by Walker.Rightly so. Walker's survival as governor is far more important to the Republican Party and to national politics than the next step in the selection of the presidential candidate.
Thus, with the [presidential primary] election only a little more than a week away, Wisconsin is a black hole in a race that has been fiercely contested coast to coast since January, a sharp contrast to the recent contests in other Midwestern states like Michigan and Ohio.

Not really. In many ways the Wisc situation is like early days in the defeat of communism via the use of military spending. Should the unionsvwin in Wisc they will be emboldened to spend more in other states where their membership is dwindling. It is only a matter of time. It will be over sooner if Walker survives but it will be over.
I missed noticing the Ohio primary and I live there.
Just had breakfast with the blonde from the super-K-street consultants' party at the Oval Room last night (to celebrate the November victory in advance). Everyone is so incredibly excited about Obama-Biden vs. Santorum-Gingrich that no one can contain themselves.
One tip to the GOP: The theme music for the POTUS re-election will be by Cliff Martinez. You can listen to his pulsating music in Drive and Contagion (via iTunes). The voters are going to be enthralled as everyone is at the Chicago HQ near Michigan avenue for the re-election team.

mittens has virtual monopoly on Wisconsin TV, outspending Santorum more tha 50 to 1. Which is why he has overtaken Santo in WI, much to smitten w/mittens delight!

I'm surprised Johnny Reb is so interested in Wisconsin politics. Why would people in right to work states care so deeply enough to send 500,000 checks to Walker?
If recent polls are to be believed, Romney has Wisconsin in the bag. Having Walker triumph is definitely more critical for the reform movement.
Agreed, with the unhappy addendum that Mitt's negative campaigning will do for WIGOP what Meg Whitman did for us in California.
State Rep. Robin Vos said Republican National Chairman Reince Priebus asked him a couple weeks ago about the chatter in the state about the upcoming presidential primary.
"And I said, `Reince, I hate to burst your bubble, but nobody in Wisconsin is talking about the presidential primary,'" Vos said.
Not a Priebus fan, but I always found that "I hate to burst your bubble" expression condescending, especially when told to a third party or particularly the media to recount a conversation with someone who sought your input.
Ann is probably on the right track. Walker and people like him - Martinez, Haley, West, Jindal - are the wave of the future and the WI fight is all about that.

It's amazing to me that non-RINOs are whining about campaign spending. Used to be, only RINOs and liberals did that.
The more appropriate non-RINO response is to recognize that in the Darwinian world of politics, Santorum is just weaker and his fundraising failures reflect that. But not in 2012. In 2012, non-RINOs whine about everything and elevate their feelings above their country.
With 24 hour news, along with the non-stop compaigning/elections, we tend to get burned out.
And now that Romney is pulling ahead and will when, even hard core political junkies are loosing interest in the Republican primary.

Ann you are right on. I am interested in the Republican primary, but my "fire" and therefore my contribution has gone to Walker. Maybe after we have him safely re-elected I can finally turn my attention elsewhere!
The Walker recall should be paramount to both Dems and Reps. If Walker's ousted, that pretty much denounces the GOP's motive of ending collective bargaining.
If Walker prevails, the GOP will be regurgitating the lie that Walker was elected with a promise to attack unions and that the people approved of that attack.

Actually, if you look at how much money is sent to DC and compare how much flows back to each state it seems that Wisconsin has been bailing out the rest of the country for quite a while now.
(On the other hand, Virginia receives the most Federal $$$ per citizen and it is also one of the strongest "right to work" states in the country.)
I'm curious, Fen - which state do you live in? Since you've brought it up I'm wondering if we've been bailing you out or not....
