Kathryn51 said...: A few days ago, when Harris was to appear at some heavily publicized event or rally, Biden appeared in the WH Press Room for the first time (ever? years?) at the precise time - all the networks immediately pivoted to Biden. Among other items, he said that Harris had been closely involved from the beginning in most matters - and they supported the same agenda.

Today, after Harris claimed that DeSantis was playing politics since he didn't want to take a phone call/discuss Hurricane Milton with her, Biden once again - at the moment she was appearing on the heavily publicized appearance on the View - told the press that he and DeSantis had been in close communication and that DeSantis was doing a great job.

Florida was mostly a swamp at the time of acquiring statehood in 1845. They went on to "drain the swamp" destroying mangroves and coral areas, thus expanding dry land from 15 million to 35 million acres. Now the swamp wants back in.

Original Mike said...: I had an almost catastrophic episode with Memphis customs. I shipped one of my telescopes to New Zealand for an astronomical vacation. A lot went into the planning and expense. The telescope gets to Christchurch but Memphis customs didn't fill out the exit carnet paperwork properly. DHL tells me the scope has got to go back all the way to Memphis for the proper paperwork and then it can come back to Christchurch. But my trip will be over by then!

It turns out that Doug Emhoff, he who was supposed to be a model for us toxic males (see the Sltjouse post from a few days ago) was was a foul-mouthed misogynist who hosted male-only cocktail parties in his office, and he hired an unqualified part time model as a legal secretary because she was “young, attractive, and friendly with the powerful men in the office.” Most damningly, he revoked work perks from women who didn’t flirt with him, and he took “only young, attractive associates with him in a limousine to a ball.”

Big Mike said...: I watched a 50 second clip from an interview that Elon Musk did with Tucker Carlson. It turns out that Musk's efforts to provide StarLink communications terminals was blocked by a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) issued by the FAA that forbade helicopters from flying unless they could provide contact information for the people they were flying to meet. Of course the point of Musk's helicopter deliveries was that the people had been cut off from downed telephone lines, cell towers that were offline, and washed out roads, so there was a Catch 22 there that almost certainly was deliberate.

Planning my third trip Feb-to-Apr 2025. And I think I have customs figured out. The ticket is a concept called "unaccompanied baggage". Fingers crossed.
