Each evening, we sit on the screen porch, have a drink maybe, and watch night fall, and as the dusk gathers, a cute little rabbit appears on the lawn, apparently to eat clover, or maybe the dandelion leaves, or chickweed, or even the creeping Charlie. Well, last night, I fell asleep on the couch on the screen porch and was awakened by the hooting of a great horned owl up in the maple tree, so I am thinking it won't be long before our little rabbit friend is no more. Probably my fault for scattering clover seed in the lawn. Sorry little guy!

The rule of Lemnity said...: On a previous Sunrise I posted a video of professor Taleb talking about the "minority rule". Today I realized I put that into effect without giving it a second thought. It's a default mode.

I turn out a very small percentage of people receiving their Amazon packages make a note saying 'not to drive up their driveway' to deliver the package. I had usually visually sized them up according to how far I would have to walk to the front door. After about the 3rd note (out of thousands of packages) saying 'not to drive up their driveway', I decided I'm just not going to drive up on nobody's driveway. In short, let's just say the 2nd Amendment is a way of life here. Following instructions is just the best thing to do.

And- all sating how he was most definitely appointed in accordance with the constitution despite Judge Cannon's ignorance. Ultimately this case was a loser for anyone bringing it against ANY former POTUS for possessing classified information. The former POTUS goes before the judge- "I declassified all documents in my possession and ones that I took with me while I was still POTUS." Now- how is any prosecutor going to prove he didn't? He didn't follow procedure? Uh- he's the ultimate classification authority while POTUS- there is no procedure HE has to follow. He didn't TELL anyone? Um, he's POTUS- everyone reports to him, not the other way around. The National Archivist says he didn't. Who the F--- is he to make that decision?

Using a threaded format means you don't have to cut and paste anything from the original comment, which also avoids the need to manually add HTML formatting to distinguish your comment from the quote. I think it also eliminated the 'old .. older ... oldest' divisions when the number of comments rises. I don't know about the comment control but at first glance it appears to facilitate deleting not just a single comment but all the replies to that comment in one shot which would eliminate some clutter in heavily moderated comment threads (and leave no trace that the thread had even been moderated); 8/27/24, 4:49 AM

Many blogs over the years have chosen nested format; I presume Blogger imagines it's an improvement.

I don't like it myself, however—and anyone can still choose to read the comments in chronological order: simply follow the “date/time” link at the bottom of the original posting—just to the right of where it says “Posted by Ann Althouse” and read the comments from there.

Since many people are still accessing the blog that way, however, it behooves people (who want their comments to be read and understood, anyway) to include enough context so it's clear what the hell you're talking about.; 8/27/24, 8:31 AM
