Matt Gaetz lambastes McCarthy: "Mr. Speaker, you are out of compliance with the agreement that allowed you to assume this role."

Text:
Mr. Speaker, you are out of compliance with the agreement that allowed you to assume this role.... We have had no vote on term limits or on balanced budgets, as the agreement demanded and required. There's been no full release of the January 6 tapes, as you promised. There's been insufficient accountability for the Biden crime family, and instead of cutting spending to raise the debt limit, you relied on budgetary gimmicks and rescissions so that you ultimately ended up serving as the valet to underwrite Biden's debt and advance his spending agenda.
Mr. Speaker, you boasted in January that we would use the power of the subpoena and the power of the purse. But here we are eight months later and we haven't even sent the first subpoena to Hunter Biden.... At this point during Democrat control over the House of Representatives, they had already brought in Don Jr. three times, and we haven't even sent the first subpoena to Hunter Biden....
Our leadership right now is asking us to vote for a continuing resolution. A vote for a continuing resolution is a vote to continue the Green New Deal, a vote to continue inflationary spending, and the most troubling of fashions, a vote for a continuing resolution is a vote to continue the election interference of Jack Smith.
Mr. Speaker, we told you how to use the power of the purse. Individual, single subject spending bills that would allow us to have specific review, programmatic analysis and would allow us to zero out the salaries of the bureaucrats who have broken bad, targeted President trump or cut sweetheart deals for Hunter Biden.... There is no way to pass all the individual appropriations bills now, and it's not like we didn't know when september 30 was going to show up on the calendar....
We demand real oversight against this weaponized government. Just look at the bribery. If tens of millions of dollars flowing from foreign corrupt people into the bank accounts of the Biden family wasn't enough, for actual impeachment, why were we even looking? Joe Biden deserves impeachment for converting... presidency into an ATM Machine for virtually his entire family. We all see it, we all know it.
Moments ago speaker McCarthy endorsed an impeachment inquiry. This is a baby step following weeks of pressure from house conservatives to do more. We must move faster.
Now I will concede that the votes I have called for will likely fail. Term limits, balanced budgets, maybe even impeachment. I am prepared for that eventuality because at least if we take votes, the American people get to see who is fighting for them and who is willing to tolerate more corruption and business as usual.
Mr. Speaker, dust off our written January agreement. You have a copy. Reflect on the spirit of that agreement and build on the start that we had moments ago. Begin to comply. No continuing resolutions, individual spending bills or bust. Votes on balanced budgets and term limits. Subpoenas for Hunter Biden and the members of the Biden family who have been grifting off of this country and the impeachment for Joe Biden that he so richly deserves.
Do these things or face a motion to vacate the chair. Let me alert the country. A motion to vacate might not pass at first. But it might before the 15th vote. And if Democrats bail out McCarthy, as they may do, then I will lead the resistance to this uni party and the Biden-McCarthy-Jeffries government that they are attempting to build. I know that Washington isn't a town where people are known for keeping their word. Well, Speaker McCarthy, I'm here to hold you to yours.

Time for him to get it good and hard.

Stunt politics at its worst. Its not an impeachment.....its an impeachment enquiry, to see if there is any evidence for an actual impeachment (I'll save you the time, there isn't) To the dullards it sounds like an impeachment....but its not.

Gives American Democracy a bad name. The Chinese Government must be having a good laugh.

Who would have thought that Matt Gaetz was going to be the guy to protect the uniparty by killing the impeachment inquiry.

Hooray!!! Someone fighting back...

How long before they roll him?

Don't get me wrong I love what he's doing and I believe every second of it is constructive. It will only take a few more like him/them to begin to make a difference. It's a long game and his GOP opponents will begin to die off soon...

There is so much evidence of. corruption, that denying it just makes the corruption denialists look complicit in it.

The "impeachment whistleblower" was involved in Ukrainian corruption, and the punishment of those, including Shokin, the prosecutor that Joe Biden fired, the punishment of the only anti-corruption people in Ukraine who actually managed to claw back any of the stolen money. Ciaramella met with those corrupt actors, in the White House, who were involved in taking out the only effective anti-corruption officials in Kiev, and Ciaramella also met with the Ukrainian politician who later fed the bogus "Black Ledger" to The New York Times, the faked up scandal over which caused Trump to lose his campaign manager in August of 2016. Yes, Manafort was convicted, of offenses that have been simply overlooked in Democrats for years, and of which Hunter Biden is plainly guilty per the publicly available evidence, violation of FARA, and yet the DoJ tried to make these violations of FARA go away as part of a slap on the wrist plea deal to a gun crime.

In other words, the impeachment inquiry might bring the election interference by Ukraine, with the complicity of Joe Biden, on behalf of Hillary. Funny how it got blamed on Ukraine's arch enemy, Russia, which actually was without evidence, BTW. But they always accuse the other side of what they are doing. It's propaganda 101.

Rich makes an ostrich look like an owl.

Explain why Biden needs twenty shell companies (to distribute tens of millions of dollars in foreign bribes to his family…)

Explain the timing of Burisma demanding deliverables to remove the investigator Shokin; a phone call by Burisma to DC; it becoming official US policy to have Shokin removed; Biden flying to Ukraine and threatening to withhold a billion dollars in aid unless they fire Shokin.

Explain Biden sitting next to his son listening to Hunter extort millions of dollars from a Chinese company. Explain Biden extorting 50% from his son, or $10 million from Burisma. I could do this all day…

How many people have to testify that Joe Biden was "the big guy" before it becomes actual evidence, I mean in addition to the fact that there was no other plausible person who could be the big guy who was in a position where the money needed to be held by his bag man when the evidence first came to light?

https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2023/07/devon-archer-tells-lawmakers-joe-biden-is-big/

I know that Siri tells me that there is "no evidence" that Joe Biden is corrupt, but given that so much evidenc exists, the above links are just the tip of the iceberg, I can only conclude that Apple's is complicit, as well.

Yandex doesn't bury these links to stories providing evidence of Joe Biden's corruption

If you use Bing, you get a fact check with refutes all of the above by demonstrating that Joe Biden's Corvette did not have a license plate that said "Big Guy," you know, the car that was kept in the garage where classified documents were made available to Joe Biden's FARA violating son, so I guess that proves that there is "no evidence."

The first impeachment of Donald Trump was triggered by a "whistleblower"who was involved in Ukrainian election interference in the US election of 2016, and was in response to a question about that interference, which is known to have happened, it showed up on the front page of the New York Times in August of 2016, and the "crime" was they exact same technique of withholding funds authorized by Congress that Joe Biden used to kill an investigation into his son's client, Burisma.

Donald Trump was tied down with a bullshit impeachment right when the pandemic was starting, to protect corrupt Democrats, and neither the impeachment trial, nor the Mueller persecution, ever turned up any actual evidence of Trump's collusion with Russia. All that has ever turned up is that Trump had a foreign policy difference with the neocons who have maneuvered us into involvement in this war, when Trump preferred peace in Europe, which would have been better for everybody, especially the Ukrainians.

Everything centers on Ukraine, and if the first you heard of Ukraine was when Putin intervened after the US had intervened in Ukraine, under Obama and Biden, creating a civil war, you have no idea of what the real issues are in any of this. And pretending that there is "no evidence" is just a way to keep you from ever knowing the extent, and huge cost to the world, of Joe Biden's corruption.

Pertaining to this- something I just copied from a thread in threadreaderapp that must certainly be satire of some kind.

JUST IN: White House Issues Memo to U.S. Media Leaders

"It’s time for the media to ramp up its scrutiny of House Republicans for opening an impeachment inquiry based on lies."

Impeachment is grave, rare, and historic. The Constitution requires “treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.”

I cannot imagine any Democrat saying that with any kind of seriousness. But- I can imagine them saying it and believing it in their hearts and minds to be true- because to be a Democrat today required being delusional or insane.

Essentially, Gaetz is accusing McCarthy of what I'd call a "snow globe" speakership.

Shake it up and it snows, for a while, and after that, stops by the inertia of uniparty gravity.

Ya gotta keep shaking the congressional diorama if you want it to snow with any consistency.

McCarthy likes manipulative control of the DC snow globe, Gaetz wants it smashed.

I’m grateful for Gaetz’s stance here. In particular, we need to see the J6 tapes and regular order budgeting. If the 12 budgets are late, so be it. Just get them done as early as possible. I’m fine with the inquiry baby step, though, which adds clout to get more evidence, since Congress has been stonewalled to date.

Btw McConnell reminded McCarthy that he made a deal last spring regarding the budget which effectively stalled large spending reductions. That was before the 2023 $2T deficit came to light, though, which is double that of 2022. McCarthy has every right to step away from that prior deal. McConnell should resign in shame for not changing lanes on this himself.

Gaetz has a point, but there are 20 Democrat senators up for re-election next year, and all three independents (all of whom caucus with the Democrats). Manchin is probably toast no matter whether he votes to convict or to acquit, but Sinema, Tester, Kaine, and possibly even Brown and Casey might be vulnerable in November 2024 should they vote to acquit. Blue Dog Democrats in the House could find a vote against impeachment to be the end of their careers.

What I find annoying about McCarthy is what I hate about GOPe. Its not just they will lie to get the needed votes, its that they won't even throw Conservatives a bone. Not matter how small.

What reason is there to not release the J6 tapes? What reason is there to drag your feet on impeachment of Garland and the DHS Open Borders guy?

They wont fight the D's over the smallest matter, even when it costs them nothing and may end their careers. I guess some big Donor is bribing them, either with Campaign $ or with a lucrative post-politics lobbyist job.

rcocean said...

And of course we get all the dumb GOPe/Fake Conservative clap back. "We don't have time for this nonsense. We have to concentrate on blah blah blah". yeah, somehow the D's do it all. they spend time on impeachment AND pass big spending bills. they push social liberalism AND socialism. They give us open borders AND transgender Rights AND Trump being prosecuted AND Liberal/left judges AND AND AND.

But the R's can only do ONE THing at a time. What a joke! They don't want to do it. And the "We cant spend our time on this, we need to do..." is just the EXCUSE.

What's your problem with Kamala Harris, lonejustice? If she is incompetent, then shouldn't we learn that before the election, when she could become President for even more years if Biden's health deteriorates. I don't know if this was a serious comment but I'll use it to riff anyways...that's the point Gaetz is getting at. The old game of counting votes before we take a vote is part of why we're in this mess. We want to vote first, then count. Then hold you accountable for your vote. It's not a bad way to doing things, really...

Yancey Ward said...

AMDG wrote:

Where in that speech did Gaetz claim votes that could be won weren't being taken? He admitted the things he wanted votes on would lose, and likely lose repeatedly. He was criticizing the not taking them at all even in the face of losing. You can criticize him for, perhaps, underestimating the value of not taking a vote that can't be won, but for fuck's sake, you can't criticize him for not being able to count those votes beforehand. He was criticizing McCarthy for not even trying to hold a vote on anything in the agreemement he made to win the Speakership vote back in January. Your comment suggests to me that you didn't read anything beyond the headline.

However, with that out of they way, you can count votes beforehand, but you only know how someone will vote when they have actually had to vote. Sometimes you hold the vote itself as the cudgel to entice the vote you want. McCarthy is refusing to put some members of his party in the position of having to make a tough choice, and that seems either cowardly to me, or it suggests McCarthy doesn't want any of the things Gaetz wants and never did. All in all, probably Gaetz and the other hold outs from January should have just held out altogether. In retrospect, it seems to me to have been better for the GOP to let Jeffries be a minority Speaker than getting what we got with McCarthy who gets the blame for everything. Outside of Comer's work, there is nothing being done by the House for which McCarthy or any other GOP speaker would get credit for anyway.

Original Mike said...

My assumption regarding an impeachment inquiry is as an aid to obtain documents. We need to look at the books of the 20+ shell corporations. As Jonathan Turley has said, Joe could address this forthrightly by doing this voluntarily. Instead, the White House is reportedly setting up a War Room.

No, it just went to a shell corporation controlled by Joe Biden and his wife.

The impeachment delay is one thing. The thirteen funding bills is a BIG THING. Each one could be used to make significant cuts to departments. And stick to them, while passing the ones really needed.

The omnibus bills are bills being proposed with a gun to your head, support this or else.

Paul Ryan did the same damn thing as speaker of the house. Passed a huge omnibus bill with the promise that he would get back to normal order. And just like McCarthy, it was a lie.

The house knows that the Senate will never votte on the impeachment. So the problem was; How do you expose this level of corruption that the mainstream media sources are actively trying to cover up? You question the players under oath at a house impeachment inquirey.
It's about exposing the Biden family corruption. Real corruption this time. Not the FBI made up corruption like with Trump.
