WaPo's preferences/predictions are interesting.

Stacy Abrams is second on the list because the Georgia gubernatorial election was "stolen" from her. That will be a big campaign theme for the Democrats. They have nothing else to run on.

Achilles said...

Kamala Harris dropped out because she made a deal to be the veep nom for whatever white millionaire wins the primary.

She checks all the boxes.

Yup--Stacy Abrams---gives you two reasons not to vote for the Democrat presidential nominee in 2020. The idea of that whining round mound of venom being just one step away from the Oval Office is too terrible to contemplate.

Achilles said...

Stacy Abrams is fat and mean.

The dems only nominate her if they know they will lose anyway.

Kamala isn't fat and ugly and checks the same boxes.

The reason they are both at the top of the list is because they are Black and the democrat party is explicitly racist.

#2 Stacey Abrams

Poor Mayor Pete, the only white guy in the top 13. At least he has the gay thing to help him. The last two are just token white guys, not really a possibility. Just like the NFL, where they have to interview a minority for the head coaching job even if they have no intention of hiring them. The first ones who claims to be a lesbian between Harris and Abrams wins with three checked boxes.

The good news is that running as VP really hides the serious flaws that prevented them from getting the nomination.

My guess is the Dems will choose a black VP candidate so as to firm up the black vote, what with polls showing possible defection over to the Dark Side of The Force, AKA Darth Orange Man.

And by a black candidate I do not count Kamala Harris. Half Jamaican/Indian and years as CA prosecutor do not cut it.

What a crazy list. I mean, it all depends on WHO is the POTUS candidate. Biden will NOT pick a white man, but a female or a POC. Warren will pick a male probably a POC. Sanders and Buttigig a female, probably POC.

The D's are RULED By identity politics. The ticket must be balanced. White vs. POC. Male vs. Female. The days of two white males or even two whites on a D presidential ticket are OVER. Best shots at being VP:

1. Kamala D. Harris
2. Stacey Abrams
3. Cory Booker (if Warren or Kochblob gets the Nomination)
4. Deval Patrick

@Igv

I've said here numerous times that the Democratic Party has become the party of women (only liberal women), gays (and other acronym of the month club members), and tottering old farts who remind them of a the white straight men they've either lost or can't lose because they're just old letches now.

Any straight man under 40 that's remotely threatening to them has been demoted to the very bottom of the party hierarchy.

Apparently we weren't "better together".

Unless Mini Mike gets the nomination. He has dropped maybe $100 million so far, to buy a 5% popularity share so far, and that means that he could very possibly buy his way into the top tier wih a half billion. Small change for him- maybe 1% of his wealth. And he can’t take it with him. Besides, if he wins the Presidency, he gets control over the ATF. in any case, he probably has more executive experience than the top 5 Dem candidates combined, so probably would need someone with either flyover country or left coast appeal.

I know that I probably sound redundant constantly pointing out Bloomberg’s candidacy. But I think the reality is that he is the Democrats best chance at beating Trump. Most of the remaining candidates are Senate or House backbenchers with extremely safe seats, plus the mayor who is mismanaging a small city. Oh, and the senile former VP, who actually wasn’t a backbencher when he was in the Senate. Mini Mike successfully ran one of our very biggest cities. Plus he built up a media empire that made him one of the richest people in the country. He has probably more competence than the lot of them combined.

Not that I expect him to get the nomination, because I don’t. The Democrats aren’t yet hungry enough to do what it would take to win, but instead seem stuck posturing and virtue signaling.

The only thing she adds is being a woman, but Warren is a better choice for that.

States don't matter at this point. They really aren't going to win the election but they can try to keep the country divided along racial lines.

Right now they are losing their monolithic hold on Black and Hispanic voters. Just like Labor lost their red wall in Britain. This is a much bigger concern for them.

Trump is delivering prosperity to the working class and minorities are a big chunk of that. If they lose their hold on black voters they are done.

There is a political re-alignment going on all over the world. This goes beyond presidential politics. They have to keep people in racial tribes and out of nationalistic groups.

This is deeper than state by state efforts.

Achilles said...

I have no idea why people believe Harris is going to be the VP after being humiliated out of the nomination race. Why?? We are smugly assured that she ticks the boxes, but that didn't even get her to Iowa. Her weakness in getting black men to vote for her would make her uniquely unfit to combat Trump. Her wooden personality means Pence would effortlessly hold his own, and maybe embarrass her if his staff helps him remember some zingers.

Stacy Abrams would be much better at driving up black turnout, but putting this DMV stereotype in the driver's seat would be an official warning that the Democrats have given up trying to actually win the election. Reflecting on the list, you realize there isn't a lot of "woman of color" talent that's actually credible for the job. Whitmer literally just got the governorship, so it won't be her. Sen. Masto- wait, a first-term Senator from Nevada? Who was dumb enough to make this list anyways-

Did I not say this already?

Biden is going for Harris or Abrams or Klobuchar.

But, I also said that Warren is going to win it all? So Biden will crash. Whose her VP? It will be Abrams or Castro or gov from MT, WA, or RI.

Cheers!
