Election night. I know you're not all watching.

You took my poll:

And alan markus said:
I will be watching the discussion here - much more interesting than what any talking heads on TV will have to say.
And I said:
Hey, good point! I should have provided that option: I will be hanging out on Althouse and seeing whatever is visible from this vantage point.
The option wasn't available on the poll, but it's available right now. Hang out here and watch with me. I know we can't all get what we want, but if what you want is company and conversation, you can get that here.  My vote is secret, and I'm sympathetic to everyone's feelings.

The majority of people have a favorable opinion of Obama. A good part of this is about the last 25 years of manufacturing job losses and endless wars and Wall Street. Add to this the utter condescension and at times contempt of our media and universities to non-minorities without college degrees.

Not only that, think about all the suckers who gave her over a billion dollars & now have absolutely jack-shit to show for it!

I have to think about it, but that might be the best part. I often have more scorn for the people who get conned than the grifters who con them.

You can't stand at a lectern in the middle of the Schottenstein Center in Columbus, Ohio and tell the audience you're going to put a lot of coal companies (and miners) out of business and expect to win Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, or Pennsylvania.

Imagine a 55-year-old coal miner hearing that. He's got to put food on the table for at least 10-12 more years. It's all he's known and all he's done. He's worked his ass off for 30 years. He's going to suddenly learn how to do something else that will pay as much for his expertise?

How the hell does he pull a lever for that person?

This woman was more tone-deaf than anyone who ever ran for the position in my lifetime. Just an absolutely incompetent, negligent job as a politician. Coal miners weren't the only ones she "insulted" (since Trump haters love that word so much). She also gloated over her primary success and when asked about reaching out to her opponent's voters, refused - instead reminding Rachel Maddow that SHE WON MORE VOTES!!! Let's celebrate and who cares about those votes for my opponent that I'lll need.

It was outright reckless.

Just got back to my hotel room from a Sydney pub. In the pub, I had several conversations with older patrons who were buoyed by the result. Younger patrons were talking amongst themselves and looked crestfallen.

Back at the hotel, the TV pundits are panicked. One thing they're focused on are trade deals. "Donald Trump will tear up TPP on day one". Didn't Clinton say she'd do the same thing?

tim in vermont said...

I knew this was coming, in a way, because it was obvious to me that millennials were not going to vote for Hillary.

Just be careful what you wish for re: treatment of Muslims in America. IIRC, France's Sarkozy went pretty far on the offensive against Algerian hoodlums in Paris suburbs, and all that seems to have resulted was even greater, and more catastrophic terrorism.

Election results:
As a result of supporting Hillary Clinton:
Democrats routed on every level - President, Senate, House, Governors
Media exposed as partisan. Network TV in decline. NFL losing audience share.
DOJ exposed as corrupt. FBI corrupted during the process. Obama exposed: he sent e-mails to Hillary's unsecured server and told illegals to vote.
Hillary crawls away somewhere. Hollywood and its celebrities grossly insulted 51% of their potential audience and promised to leave America (Please do).

In case the pundits are at a loss for words, here's a suggestion: General Braddock's last words which were: "Who would have thought?"

And at Yorktown they played "The World Turned Upside Down" as the British surrendered.

HRC. She was honestly so stupid as to think that she was running a winning campaign - despite how empty it was.

She admitted in debates that she wasn't a "natural politician".

If I weren't a "natural professional athlete" I kind of think I'd get my ass off the field before I got creamed, also.

I told the Republican poll volunteer today after voting that I thought Trump was a narcissist & Hillary was a sociopath.

I was inclined to agree at several points this campaign. But still held out a glimmer of hope, or doubt, that maybe there was still a tiny bit more to the picture that I was missing.

Ultimately sociopaths are more dangerous than narcissists. But that's because you usually have to wait for narcissists to mess things up in dramatic fashion. They're more amenable to popular opinion, of course. But I still think the ways in which Trump can use his ego and ignorance to gang rape the nation are diverse and manifold. Perhaps even endless.

But I guess that's a Republican problem now. I know that if HRC had been elected, I would have kept up the pressure on her relentlessly. And relished it.

Many voters, mostly Dems, stayed home:

2008 ~ Obama = 69.5 million /// McCain = 60 milion

2016 ~ Hillary = 59,137,478 /// Trump = 59,025,041 so far as the totals will increase slightly in the next few days.

>

So, even McCain and Willard, at this time got more votes than Trump!

And Obama got 9.5 million more votes than Trump in 2008 when the eligible voter base was smaller.

As always, America gets the govt it deserves and America's voters are basically lazy. Congrats!

Also, both Trump and Hillary did a really good job suppressing the vote ie both had yuuuuuge unfavorables.

It will be interesting watching Trump's job approval the next (4) years. Indeed, he's sooooo frickin' unlikable from the get-go as many who voted for him don't like him already.

Yes, even when voter turnout is very low.

2008 ~ Obama = 2.9 million /// McCain = 2.7 million
