She's still benefitting because she was able to place herself on a better trajectory at a younger age when the compounding interest payoffs are much higher. ($$$ from supermodel career, marriage - although I see her peculiar marital choice mostly in terms of inexperience. ;-) )Would she even get some cheap text space in HuffPo over some more intelligent political science or journalism major of equal age with a scintillating intellect? All you have to do is look at Obama to know that even with guys, it's beauty/image over brains in today's world. And no, I don't buy the "conventional wisdom" that he's brilliant. Nor Al Gore. Bill Clinton, I'll give you. He showed every evidence of being able to think quickly, broadly with originality on-the-fly and not only that, but quite often illuminate and simplify at the same time. Good for him.The mind also decays. Physics majors, SV geeks, all are under tremendous pressure to set the work on fire before 35 because the synapses stop firing as quickly and you have to start leveraging your intelligence with position and wisdom - just like an older supermodel.
Deep thoughts from a supermodel, you betcha!
Ah, youth. I liked this graf:"So what if Botox makes you look like a poorly dubbed movie, or worse, human sock puppet where there is no match-up between what you say and how you feel, and you're turning all your family and friends slightly Asperger-ish."
Who is she?
If she thinks 35 is old, I want to talk to her at 50.This is a young woman badly in need of a real life.PS Christiane Amanpour and Arianna are powerful and beautiful????
Yeah, she hates to add Sarah Palin to those who are aging beautifully...What a petty jerk.
Wasn't it a European Vogue editor who said she'd never get plastic surgery because that would be starting a war she could never win?I liked that.
@ lucidRick Ocasek's wife.@ edutcherShe's 45. The quoted sentence was what she though in her late teens. She knows a thing or two about beauty and aging, although given the recent pictures of the not-aging-gracefully Madonna that we saw here recently, I'm not sure about her judgmentof Madonna as still looking no older than 30.
Ric Ocasek! D'oh!wv: fumble. Yeah.
Who's Rick Ocasek?
"And then, at, like, the old age of 35, I'll be an incredibly smart and kinda attractive old lady."And hairless. God damn it.Peter
Who's Rick Ocasek?lead singer and guitarist from the the cars.
I really liked her article. It seemed very honest.
I liked the article. I must admit that I give her writing slack because she is a model, which is pretty unfair!I am tired of 'who IS this person?' comments. 1. Google2. Smug about living in a bubble? Goody for you.3. Lots of dumbasses are famous. Why does the implied criticism that the person isn't famous enough for you valid?
Beyond being Rick Ocasek's wife, in her youth she was a famous model, as ubiquitous in fashion ads and on magazine covers as Kate Moss has been in more recent years. (I don't know who today's equivalent would be.)Good article by Ms. Porizkova, smart and self-aware.
This lady is smart and self aware. I would love to spend time with her. The financial earthquake shaking up all people and especially age 60 plus people makes a semi-youthful appearance a tool for job survival. The really old look is not favored. So the scrubbed look will become necessary for more than TV anchors on HDTV.
I liked it. I always want to ask beautiful women what it's like to be so beautiful, but how would they know if they have been both beautiful and not beautiful? She is still gorgeous, but her beauty has diminished, so she can address the issue. Also - how bigoted is it to assume that just because she was a model, she's incapable of deep or intelligent thought?
For the record, Paulina Porizkova diligently uses day creams with SPF 30, rain or shine...She has had one Thermage treatment about three years ago when she could afford it.Any coincidence that The Cars are back in the studio?
Paulina was Who's Gonna Drive You Home video girl. The late Ben Orr sings the lead vocals, even though Ocasek appears opposite her in the video drama.
The aging process-- so far as looks are concerned--is relatively painless for men. Where it really bites is the deterioration of athletic skills and the loss of fitness.....I wonder who feels the greatest pain about the erosions of time: the fat, bald guy who ruled the diamond for a few seasons or the supermodel with crows' feet.
