Do the Broncos play indoors or outdoors? If it's outdoors, maybe they can play this weekend's game on snomobiles. Is it too late to arrange for a whole lot more CO2, quickly?

Wow, that's pretty.

Meanwhile, my orchids are blooming on my porch.

I've noticed big snowflakes usually fall early in the season and don't last very long after they hit the ground.

I call them Hollywood flakes. They look good but don't seem to result in much accumulation.

The Chip Ahoy tag archive is awesome. I had somehow totally missed the Colorado series.

Good thing the Rockies aren't in the Series.

Go Phili!!

(Sorry Trooper)

Madison and Marquette's own, Wesley Matthews is making his NBA debut tonight in Denver.

Lovely flakes,
Oversize and
Oblate.
Keen viewers, however,
Seek other
Colorado scenes, from
Ouray perhaps,
Leadville too, and also
Dillon.

And the snow is coming down
On our Front Range town
And it's been falling all day long
What else is new
What could I do
I wrote a praire winter song
To play for you

Apologies to Fountains of Wayne

First snowfalls in Denver tend to sublime away, without even pausing to melt.

And the flack is coming down
On our Ann Althouse town
And it's been falling all day long
What else is new
Andrew Sullivan went boohoo
So NAH wrote a snarky post
To play for you

The first night time snow and/or huge snowflakes are indeed magical.

If Reggie Jackson played baseball today, they would have to call him "Mr November". The whole damn month was spent on boring divisional and league championships. It will be lucky if the World Series finishes before Thanksgiving.

Unless Cliff Lee pitches the next three games.

Just got a post from my ex (friendly) that one of her friends from Greeley said they already had 8 inches of snow in the lowlands and in the mountains there was much more.

Really wonder what kind of winter this will be.

Oi.... snow's one reason I resist moving to places like Chicago. Durn it, I need to move someplace where snow's something you read about in a book!

I like warm. Summer. Comfy. Snow... uggggh.

I do have to admit, though, that Christmas without snow would feel weird.

John! Ha ha ha ha ha. Stop it already, you're killing me over here.

Live 50 miles north of Denver. It is 10:30 PM right now and we have had about 15 inches of heavy wet snow. Yes it is pretty, but I am very glad I don't have to drive in it. And, it is not the first snowfall this yr. Happen 2 weeks ago.

Looking at weather data from the Weather Underground, Inc, it looks like Denver itself is getting hammered pretty good right now, as well as a lot of the plains just east of the mountains, except that it appears to have left Boulder through Loveland.

I was a bit worried about my father and two of my brothers, up in the mountains west of Denver. But it looks like the storm is beyond them now. Wonder if this is one of those storms that hits the plains harder than the mountains.

WV: moven - what my girlfriend is doing right now, on her way west of that storm driving from almost Canada to almost Mexico.

Joked with my girlfriend a couple of weeks ago when she got snow about what color it was, given how long it had been since she had seen any.

Which is absurd to me, since I have spent most of my life around the stuff - much of my life in Colorado, and now just east of the Sierras around Tahoe.

But keep in mind that most of this snow will be gone by the end of the weekend. The sun is supposed to come out Friday, and stay sunny at least through Monday, with the high Monday being almost 60 in Denver. This is typical in Colorado - with most big snow storms disappearing within days.

@LYNNDH

i drove in the snow all day long, and while it may be pretty it gets pretty old after awhile. looks like it will be a long winter (sigh).

wv, veledfa, organic velveeta?

I used to look into the gray sky to try to spot a flake that would arrive in my proximity in about half a minute, and position myself to try to catch it on my tongue. Sigh.

It reminds me of snow tunnels too. Treacherous ones through snow hills that could collapse and bury you alive!

I'm taking my son home this year for his first Canadian Christmas. He's eight, and he has never before seen falling snow. I want him to see snow like this. Chip's photo makes me want it even moreso. I will show it to him today.

Outdoors at Invesco Field. They are on the road this week so no big deal there. I've been to Colorado a lot in the summer. I'd love to be up in the mountains with a view of a storm like this.

That was gorgeous! I wish it would snow more here. Or, well, snow at all. It's been years since we got more than an light dusting.

It's coming on Christmas
They're cutting down trees
They're putting up reindeer
And singing songs of joy and peace
I wish I had a river I could skate away on
But it dont snow here
It stays pretty green
Im going to make a lot of money
Then Im going to quit this crazy scene
I wish I had a river
I could skate away on

Wow. That global warming really sucks. Are those warming flakes?

It must be stopped. Pretty soon the oceans will rise and the polar bears with either expand or contract, I forget which.

And send a donation to stop global warming, now. I cannot overstate the urgency of this national, no international, emergency.

Donate now by calling 1-800-Hey- Gore. Operators are standing by.

It's for the bears.

Pogo, what a great song. What a great album! Think I'll listen to it today.

Can't wait til it snows. I really missed the snow living in Knoxville.

Only 50 more days and the daylight hours will be getting longer. However, in the mean time...

KCFleming said...

knox, that song still gets me every time.

Wow I have heard that song many times and never knew who sang it.

Pogo, AJ,

No offense to Sara, but the best is the original on Joni Mitchell's Blue. A fantastic album that has stood the test of time.

WV: waginge. What old dogs do with their tails.

Snow? It doesn't have to come just yet.

Here's my bike (I'm in northwest Denver) about 4 p.m. yesterday. The snow just now appears to be tapering off. Going x-country skiing at Sloan Lake over lunch today.

Oh, and shoveling.

NotWhoIUsedtoBe said...

Durango got a little snow. It's enough to be pretty, not enough to shovel the roof.

Beth said...

We had a little snow in New Orleans last year; it lasted only a few hours, but it was so pretty, dusting the palm trees.

Bruce Hayden said...

Just talked to my father up in the mountains just west of Denver, and they got maybe 2 feet. The lane into their house has been plowed a couple of times, and my brother has been to the store. It appears right now that the higher elevations got even less, but that Denver and the front range communities up and down the edge of the mountains likely got a bit more. As of an hour ago, my father's papers hadn't arrived, and that is likely a result of more snow at lower elevations (my family there all live somewhere between 7 and 7.5 in elevation)

I grew up in Colorado and I really miss the snow there. It really is something to behold when you get those giant puffs coming down. California snow just isn't the same.

Two days of low-20's, high wind, and blowing snow is enough, thank you very much. It doesn't look like it's going to change any time soon, either.

Global warming my ass.

I live in the foothills north of Pikes Peak and we received about 20 inches of snow over the past two days and it is still coming down as I type this. That would make about 35 inches since September.

This winter looks to be even worse than the past two cold ones.

Someone please tell Mr. Sun to get back to work making sunspots again. Meanwhile, I have some snow for Mr. Gore to shovel.
