She has the same problem many of the Republican presidential candidates had. She tried to out-extreme her opponents in the primary and now seems something of a loon to the general electorate.
Scott Brown's line to that reporter (the name escapes me right now), responding to the reporter's line of "...Ted Kennedy's seat" with a line of "This isnt Ted Kennedy's seat, this is the people's seat", is still one of the best lines Ive heard in a debate in a long time.
Polling in Oct. 2012 may be a tad more prescient!
A Republican leading in a poll over a true-blue liberal in Massachusetts by double digits at any point is news.
Obama's consumer protection czar is too liberal to win a Senate seat in Massachussets, but Barry himself is totally a centrist. Unlike those "extreme" Republicans. Yep, that's the ticket.
Poll respondents appeared of two minds on two related questions, pointing to the challenge for Brown if the race becomes nationalized. While 58 percent thought it was good for the state to have "an independent Republican like Scott Brown representing us in Congress," and 39 percent disagreed, voters were clearly begrudging about watching Republicans retake the Senate. Forty-nine percent thought the state needed to elect a Democrat to prevent the chamber from going Republican, 47 percent disagreed.
For Brown, that 47% is a surprisingly strong number for that second poll question. Saying "voters were clearly begrudged" is an overstatement.
Moreover, that poll question didn't even prompt whether voters view it as beneficial to have at least one Republican in congress from Mass specifically in the event that the Senate does go Republican.
I guess the viral video of her 99 percenter screed wasn't so infectious after all. She's worth several million bucks herself, so it was pretty duplicitous. And maybe, just maybe, the people of MA are happy with the job that Scott Brown is doing.
Actually enjoyed her book on the two income trap, now all I get are Google Ads from her campaign that the Blunt Amendement is dangerous to middle class women. Yeah, she say we must respect people of faith, like myself, but all of her supporters are mocking my understanding that ovulation and menstrating aren't illnesses. That's how our girly parts are suppose to work. How can you call youself a feminist, and NOT appreciate the cyclical nature of our reproductive system???
Why mandate contraception, but leave other drugs out of a mandate? Why should one drug be free of co-pays, but other drugs that seem more essential like anti-biotics when you are actually ill are subject to insurance discrection?
"Why do Republicans overlook Scott Brown's socially liberal views but say 'good riddance' to Olympia Snowe?"
Well, a quick, snarky answer would be "he hasn't spent 30-odd years spitting in conservatives' eyes." But Brown's polling among very conservative voters is low and much of his TEA Party support is tepid at best, with most of the anger coming from him getting into bed with Barney Frank right at the beginning of his term.
I think his opposition to Little Black Jesus' contraception mandate - in a state which is very much pro-abort - is an attempt to win back that support.
As for Warren, even puff pieces in the NYT and Boston Globe aren't helping her. Much like Martha Coakley was doomed when she whined about having to stand out in front of Fenway Park to shake hands with the hoi polloi, Warren simply cannot hide her disdain for anyone who doesn't have the same Brattle Street Alert views as herself. As well, that "you made money? Good for you" video of her established a presence as a shrill distributionist, which will be very hard to overcome.
Not that Brown can't be beaten, but he's managed to steer between Scylla and Charybdis pretty well so far.
And frankly, Vicki, while you may think Brown's lead is "horrible," considering the sinkhole that is your disgusting state, I'd move out of that glass house before throwing stones.
shiloh, Warren is a socialist bimbo. She is your version of Christine O'Donnel. Polling in November will be the most important, but take care of yourself, and make sure you don't really believe the crap you are posting about liberals winning in November, delusions like that lead to depression when they are crushed.
I'm still smiling about the jeremiad $h!t fit that Olbermann pitched on MSNBC the day that Brown won in the Senate. Both the win and the jeremiad cheered me immensely. I have never seen someone beclown himself more on TV than Olbermann did that evening. It is the one and only time I have watched MSNBC.
Scott Brown lives only a few miles from where I was born and raised. So I'm pulling for him as a homeboy. His political demise has been called for and confidently predicted repeatedly on leftist blogs. It'll be heartening to see them frustrated. If they keep that seat and if the Republicans can beat ex-Sen. Nelson in Nebraska (he's lived in New York for the last decade, I'm sure that'll go down big in Nebraska) then the GOP only needs to pick up two seats to take the Senate.
Cue in the usual suspects - the conservative rubes that will argue that Scott Brown is a traitor RINO and the Republicans would be best rid of him and Warren in the Senate. The rubes believe it is better to see Harry Reid elected, lose Senate seats to a liberal Democrat than have any moderate Republicans in office. Not being in the Deep South, not part of Saint Tore'm's Opus Dei, not in good graces of a fat drug addict on talk radio - Scott Brown threatens True Believer Purity.
Why do Republicans overlook Scott Brown's socially liberal views but say "good riddance" to Olympia Snowe?
Which Republicans are you referring to?
I don’t care as much about social issues at the federal level as I do fiscal issues and I have little doubt that the longer Brown remains in the Senate, the more he’ll move in the role occupied by Olympia Snow and a few others as a “go to Republican” whenever Democrats are looking for “bipartisan support” for preserving or expanding a federal program that I don’t think should exist in the first place.
On the other hand, if Republicans take the Senate and we get a GOP President who signs a bill that repeals Obamacare and Brown helps pass it, I can forgive a few deviations here and there. I won’t give him or any other Republican a pass if they undermine attempts by conservatives to reform entitlement programs though.

Polling forward
Intriguing.
Althouse, keep hope alive your re: your (3) heartthrobs, mittens/Walker/Brown.

Good.
Go Scott, go!!! The Blue Model is failing even in Blue Massachusetts.

Warren is no Kennedy.
"Obama's consumer protection czar is too liberal to win a Senate seat in Massachussets..."
To me they're a dozen eggs. To you they're a dozen chickens.
Althouse may be the best resource to find only good polls for Republicans. Why the hell do I want to read a good poll about a Democrat. Boring!
garage - There's always The Ithsmus.
Or you could tell us how Falk/Vinehout are going to crush Walker in the recall. That's always fun.

I never said that, but now you mention it, Falk is beating Walker in the latest poll. And Vinehout is down only two. IT'S WORKING!
There ya go. Feel better now?
While polling in February may not mean much, remember how ecstatic all the Lefties were when Lizzie was leading?
I think this should be a rule in the comments: Everybody without a sense of humor has to defer to anybody with a sense of humor.
That's the only rule I'm asking for.
Horrible

shiloh - so any polls that show Dems in the lead right now are equally irrelevant right?
garage - you're so sad living and dying on every poll.
Sweet - she is a nasty piece of work.
I loved the stories in the NY Times that tried to portray her as just a big ole cuddle bear. She couldn't even smile convincingly for that puff piece.
Google broke thread subscription with the UI update!
"Sweet - she is a nasty piece of work."
How so?
"...the peoples seat"
"...our house!"

no dog in this fight--this is something the people of MA can work out. And the only poll that counts is the one in November. You know: actual voting.
And what Jason (the commenter) said.
