Read something the other day- may have been here, maybe elsewhere, I read a lot of sources. But anyhow, it was about sunflowers, and people who grow them are saying that this year for the first time in memory, sunflowers aren't following the sun around. I haven't seen any sunflower fields around this year- I'm sure they're out there but on different fields then the ones I drive past. But walking around today in the afternoon I noticed about a dozen of so widely separated sunflowers in the nearby brush- and not one of them was pointed west toward the setting sun... I have a few times grown a few, and they have followed the sun around. And I've seen it in the fields in the past. Odd goings ons in the plant world.

@GlobalAffairs, from X, reposted by Glenn Greenwald:

"Soon, we expect Judge Alexandre de Moraes will order X to be shut down in Brazil – simply because we would not comply with his illegal orders to censor his political opponents. These enemies include a duly elected Senator and a 16-year-old girl, among others.

When we attempted to defend ourselves in court, Judge de Moraes threatened our Brazilian legal representative with imprisonment. Even after she resigned, he froze all of her bank accounts. Our challenges against his manifestly illegal actions were either dismissed or ignored. Judge de Moraes’ colleagues on the Supreme Court are either unwilling or unable to stand up to him.

We are absolutely not insisting that other countries have the same free speech laws as the United States. The fundamental issue at stake here is that Judge de Moraes demands we break Brazil’s own laws. We simply won’t do that.

In the days to come, we will publish all of Judge de Moraes’ illegal demands and all related court filings in the interest of transparency.

Unlike other social media and technology platforms, we will not comply in secret with illegal orders.

To our users in Brazil and around the world, X remains committed to protecting your freedom of speech.

I watched the Trump/Tulsi “town hall” in La Crosse, WI. Oh man, I wonder if Tulsi was thinking “They aren’t paying me enough to do this”. The town hall ended abruptly almost as if Trumps handlers were anxious to get him off stage. It was a mishmash of jumping from one subject to another without answering the very few questions he was actually asked.

You know, Kamala has had a lot of criticism of her political persona, across the years - not just in the White House. Stories that she's unusually poorly-briefed on matters, and is short-tempered in meetings where this becomes apparent to others. That she tries to 'wing it' too much. And of course, her staff turnover rate is very high, compared to her peers. she is rumored to be hard on, and sharply critical of her staff. She is plagued by speculation that she's often drunk when interacting in her political role.

But... watching her tonight, is the first time I've actually focused on what she's doing, while she's speaking. She got a whole bevy of slow pitches tonight, from Bash. They were easy questions. Sometimes, Bash had to ask them 2 or 3 times, and I saw that this irritated Harris - you could see it in her expressions as the questions were being re-asked.

And these weren't hard-hitting questions, it was clearly a friendly interviewer.

But... seeing the way Harris was answering got me to thinking that something else might be going on here. It's not that she's being evasive. It's not that she's being disingenuous. It's more, that her answers don't actually relate very well to what she's being asked, and remember, these are friendly questions, where there is no need to be defensive.

All of these things taken together, I'm starting to think that Harris might have some kind of learning disability. The behavioral cues fit this, the emotional reactivity, as does the way she answered the interview questions. I wonder - ADHD maybe ? Something that her sense of ambition and drive has successfully masked, well successful to some degree anyway.

How USAF Helped Ukraine Upgrade the Electronic Warfare Systems on Its New F-16s
The F-16 fighters Ukraine is receiving from its Western partners got a boost in their electronic warfare capabilities from the U.S. Air Force, the service revealed Aug. 26.

The Air Force worked with Denmark and Norway to reprogram the EW systems on the F-16s those countries and the Netherlands are providing to Ukraine. The U.S. military had not previously acknowledged contributing its electronic warfare expertise to Ukraine’s F-16s..

All told, allies have promised to give Ukraine more than 60 F-16s, though the process will be gradual. The U.S. has said it will train a dozen Ukrainian pilots with the Arizona Air National Guard by the end of the fiscal year. Some of those pilots have graduated from that training..

So,
we (the USA) BUILT the planes..
we (the USA) UPGRADED the planes..
we (the USA) TRAINED their pilots..

but! it's A LIE! to say that we (the USA) had ANYTHING to do with providing the planes?

Both of them parroted the media spin that used a truncated clip to claim Trump praised neo-Nazis and white supremacists in his comments about a 2017 protest-turned-riot in Charlottesville, Va.

I still remember my shock the first time I watched the full dialogue in proper context — because in reality, Trump condemned the very white supremacists the media claimed he had praised.

I felt racially manipulated, pushed to shun Trump as a racist through repetitious, unfounded accusations and hoaxed into believing that he’d said the tiki-torch-carrying white supremacists were good people."

Another situation where hard cases make bad law, in this case a state regulation:

Hundreds of truck, school bus drivers told their commercial driver's licenses being revoked in Massachusetts

"Hundreds of drivers who depend on their licenses to work were suddenly notified that violations from decades ago disqualify them from holding a CDL in Massachusetts. That number includes school bus drivers and truck drivers.

Walter McCloskey has been driving trucks for 14 years. Last week he said he got a notice from the Registry of Motor Vehicles, telling him that his commercial driver's license was being revoked on August 29th for violations he got nearly 30 years ago, threatening a job he loves.

RMV used lifetime lookback
McCloskey says he thought it was a mistake or a computer glitch, but after calling the RMV he was told it was not a mistake and the agency was using what it called a lifetime lookback.

"There's no statute of limitations, there's no due process," McCloskey said. "You know there's no hearing before, you just strip someone of their ability to pay for their mortgage, their kids' tuition, their health insurance. You just take it all away with one week's notice."

McCloskey isn't alone. The WBZ-TV I-Team learned that the same letter went to 482 truck drivers and school bus operators.

School bus drivers impacted
Tom Hamilton is Executive Director of the School Transportation Association of Massachusetts. He says the notices came as a surprise to their members too, and the timing couldn't be worse.

"It's the worst possible week of the season of the year to do it, schools are starting this week," Hamilton said. "Not knowing how many were actual bus drivers... we're about 1,200 drivers short as it is. You're just going to devastate kids getting picked up at the bus stop
."

Whoever it was at Massachusetts RMV who made this decision should be fired. What utter disrespect for essential workers!

Arrogant G.I.L.B.A.R. wants to argue without naming his opponent, or pointing the reader to the previous part of the argument, or telling the truth. It is very easy to find out whether "we (the USA) BUILT the planes". We did not, though we did supply the design and some of the parts.

Here's the official Air Force 'fact sheet' on F-16s: link. Since G.I.L.B.A.R. never follows any of my links, I'll quote the pertinent part:

"The F-16 was built under an unusual agreement creating a consortium between the United States and four NATO countries: Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands and Norway. These countries jointly produced with the United States an initial 348 F-16s for their air forces. Final airframe assembly lines were located in Belgium and the Netherlands. The consortium's F-16s are assembled from components manufactured in all five countries. Belgium also provides final assembly of the F100 engine used in the European F-16s. Recently, Portugal joined the consortium. The long-term benefits of this program will be technology transfer among the nations producing the F-16, and a common-use aircraft for NATO nations. This program increases the supply and availability of repair parts in Europe and improves the F-16's combat readiness."

As usual when the subject is Ukraine, G.I.L.B.A.R. can't be bothered to spend a minute and a half Googling to see if his statements are correct before posting them.
