Sigh. For some reason, these photos remind me of that August feeling I had as a kid, the twilight kickball or hide n' seek no longer could go to 9:30, another week and you're shopping for school clothes and supplies. Tipping toward fall.

Trump is in the new media. 1 million live views on Kick from a very young skewed audience for his Adin interview.

100's of thousands of people per hour are watching the recording.

All of this stuff dwarfs CNNABCNBCCBS.

In medical news, I wore closed shoes for the first time in about eight weeks today. Last Monday I had one of my favorite toenails (left, big) removed. It had gone from ingrown to involuted, and was starting to hurt all the time. You know I loves me some sandals, but they aren't year-round apparel.

We have this guy, who is an acknowledged "market legend"

Legendary Market Watcher Predicts Surprise Fed Rate Cut: Robert Prechter, founder and president of Elliott Wave International, believes the Fed will implement an emergency rate cut ahead of its September meeting, citing the recent global selloff and disappointing jobs report.

And this guy:

San Francisco Fed President Daly Sees Interest Rate Cuts Coming: Mary Daly expects policy easing due to progress on inflation and a clear slowdown in hiring, although she declined to provide a specific timetable or extent of the cuts.

And we have Rich. '

"Progress on inflation..." They are going to make a bonfire of the dollar because they know that the effects on inflation of a rate cut won't be that noticeable for weeks, after the election. The Biden Harris Administration has been looting the treasury for four years, why should things change now?

This is just me, the anonymous commenter talking now, but I wonder if they can make a rate cut stick?

Listening to Kamala Harris answer softball questions from the press makes me think of a famous quote from the movie "Billy Madison":

You don’t get stability by staying mum on the events that worry people. If that’s even Harris’s goal. Given what she’s said in the past, I think she’s an anarchist, actually. She wants to re-make every aspect of our society and culture. So I don’t think she’s into stability.

hawkeyedjb said...

Every problem in this society pales in comparison to the monstrosity of debt on which our government depends. It will wreck us. It is the thing that will go on until it can't.

Neither candidate for president - or any other office, for that matter - has a single useful word to say about it.

2. A record number of Americans are working multiple jobs

3. ~9% of credit card balances became delinquent over the last year

4. Housing market affordability is near record lows

5. Mortgage demand is at its lowest levels in 30 years

"Democracy is more stable than other forms of governance."

Wrong.

Go read the Founding Fathers sometime, Rich. There's a whole bunch of reasons that they gave us a constitutional republic and not a democracy. They were well aware of the dangers of having a popularity contest be the basis of government. A constitution, properly adhered to, is a barrier to the worst excesses of the mob. And a limited republic, properly adhered to, requires the voters to explain why they should be given what they ask for beyond simply "We are 50% +1 of the voters and we want this."

"The key to achieving that is the promotion of stability. Instability kills growth."

That's pretty vague and devoid of actual meaning. From an economic point of view, "creative destruction" fuels growth. Instability. And that works best where the free market is in a legal environment with property rights and rule of law. If you really want to use a single abstract noun ending in a "y" to describe what those concepts provide, it would be "consistency", not "stability".

"Skillfully designed social democracy promotes stability."

Mason G said...

"From an economic point of view, "creative destruction" fuels growth. Instability."

Warren Meyer (Coyote Blog) mentioned this twenty years ago in his article "Progressives are too Conservative to Like Capitalism":

"Beyond just the concept of individual decision-making, progressives are hugely uncomfortable with capitalism. Ironically, though progressives want to posture as being "dynamic", the fact is that capitalism is in fact too dynamic for them. Industries rise and fall, jobs are won and lost, recessions give way to booms. Progressives want comfort and certainty. They want to lock things down the way they are. They want to know that such and such job will be there tomorrow and next decade, and will always pay at least X amount. That is why, in the end, progressives are all statists, because, to paraphrase Hayek, only a government with totalitarian powers can bring the order and certainty and control of individual decision-making that they crave."

"People are not sheep to be herded and penned in."

For progressives, that is the goal. And they think they're the skillful ones who'll be doing the herding.
