First Lady Jill Biden Argues Joe Is A ‘Healthy, Wise 81-Year-Old’…
that's kinda the problem isn't it?
to paraphrase Man in Black: No good. I've known too many 81 year olds

Fuck you, gilbar! I'm 81 and I'll bet you a six-pack of Depends, I can kick your ass.

I'll take pictures #2 and #4. The latter belongs in a gallery with a nice price tag.

In numbers 3 and 5, I find the sun actually a bit distracting and, maybe, too centered.

Tastes differ. Great pictures.

The Biden Assault on Grand Canyon University (Courtesy of Instapundit)

Long article, but here's the gist:

"Joe Biden’s administration has been rife with abuses of power, and a perfect example is his Education Department’s regulatory jihad against Grand Canyon University (GCU). That Arizona-based school was founded in 1949 and operated as a non-profit entity until 2004, when it partnered with private investors to secure the capital it needed to continue operations. During that period of time, it encountered no trouble with state or federal regulatory bodies.

In 2018, GCU chose to return to non-profit status, a move approved by the IRS and the Higher Learning Commission of Arizona. The U.S. Department of Education, however, has declined to accept that change, for no stated reason. The Biden administration apparently wants to regard GCU as a for-profit institution so the university can be included in its war against for-profit schools, which it tars as being “bad actors.” Some indeed have been, but GCU is not. Nevertheless, the Education Department (ED) has concocted some pretexts for going after it.

Since 2021, GCU has been swamped by the ED with demands for documents—an obvious fishing expedition. All the ED came up with were some minor, highly dubious complaints. One was that, in its promotional materials, GCU stated that “cybersecurity experts are in high demand,” which is objectively true but which the minions in the ED chose to call “erroneous and misleading.” Had any GCU student who took its cybersecurity program complained? No, but the government doesn’t need any actual complaints, much less harm, to unleash its power.

great photos today. Meades shot wins the lot. great shot of his girl and the lake.
Some wonderful shots in this series by both of you. Back in the day, would have made a great coffee table book, or calendar.
The mornings are the best time to be out and about. no bugs, cooler, and everything is so fresh.

The Biden Assault on Grand Canyon University

The scandal surrounding the country's largest Christian college

The country's largest Christian college has found itself embroiled in a major scandal. As a result, it has been hit with a record financial penalty from the federal government. Grand Canyon University (GCU), a Phoenix-based college, was fined $37.7 million by the U.S. Department of Education . . . .

GCU is accused of misrepresenting the costs of its doctoral programs over several years. The college allegedly advertised "a lower cost than what 98% of students ended up paying to complete certain doctoral programs," the Education Department said in a press release. "Today, we are holding GCU accountable for its actions, protecting students and taxpayers, and upholding the integrity of the federal student aid programs."

GCU has been cheating and stealing from students and falsifying claims made against governmental student aid programs. So this is how christianity operates nowadays!

By the way Althouse, thank you for your courage. I know, one is courageous mostly for one's own reasons. It is sickening to suppose that one lives in a world in which simply stating what appears to be true might have devastating consequences. Yet it is evident that we live in such a world. So, again, thank you for your courage. Thank you!

Democrats being who they are, especially in the era of Joe Biden, I assume GCU’s troubles are from not paying the bribes that the Biden administration has attempted to extort.

No proof has been proffered concerning Joe Biden's bribes, but it was shown in court that Trump bribed his sex partners and a doorman to hide bad news from voters while directly violating New York and Federal election and tax laws.

GCU violations were not likely even on Biden's radar, but these so-called Christians do not have special privileges to duck their own law violations. The university extorted in this case, and the fine was an easy out, but now it might be time to put administrators behind bars. Send GCU a personal donation, Mike - that is always the far-right way of rewarding criminal behavior.

"Today, we are holding GCU accountable for its actions, protecting students and taxpayers, and upholding the integrity of the federal student aid programs."

Don't know how schools calculate the cost of a degree but, it would hardly be criminal to cite the cost of tuition as being for 4 years/8 semesters for a BA/BS. What percentage of students take longer? I did. Both my kids did.

Reasons abound: work, athletic participation, lazy fuck-off periods, illness, changes in majors (and dissertations at the doctorate level), and, among on-campus students - addiction to the campus life, itself. Given the large number of Grand Canyon students who are located elsewhere, I'd say it's a safe bet that work schedules interfere with cookie-cutter graduation schedules, bigly.

I wonder how many criticizing Grand Canyon bothered to read its detailed statement on these matters. It was available by link in the Instapundit reference.

Private schools and charter schools are Enemy #1 in the eyes of the government education bureaucracy and organized labor. Except, the tonier ones attended by many officials. The vast majority of education 'experts' and 'leaders' have never spent a single day at the front of a classroom. They are not protecting anyone - just spending an ever-increasing amount of taxpayer dollars.

FWIW, my best friend just retired after 50+ years teaching advanced math classes. My son-in-law is 30-year veteran of teaching history in a very 'diverse' NYC middle school and my own son now consults (mainly on government compliance matters) after many years teaching chemistry and biology and as headmaster or a prominent private school and later principal of a top-performing charter school.

Bottom line: there are many great people in education; both public and private, but almost none of them work for the government or unions.

Sad that with such beauty as Meade’s picture of a nice sunset, we get Gadfly’s display of religious bigotry. There are colleges across the United States are closing, yet not a word from Gadfly. However, our corrupt government hits GCU with fines in November 2023, and Gadfly is still talking about it because it is Christian. Gadfly is a bigot.

Minnesota Dept. of Education’s Flawed Oversight of Nonprofit Created Fraud Opportunities: Audit

Another long article, but here's the short version:

"Despite Feeding Our Future (FOF) failing to present an acceptable plan for serving hungry children, the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) approved the nonprofit’s annual applications and budget amendments amounting to hundreds of millions of dollars. A June 13 report from the Minnesota Office of the Legislative Auditor (OLA) also found that MDE’s “actions and inactions” created “opportunities for fraud.”
The U.S. Department of Justice charged a total of 70 people between September 2022 and February 2024 over FOF’s alleged scheme, which prosecutors say cost taxpayers $250 million. Federal officials say they have recovered about $50 million.

When the nearly four-year relationship was finally terminated in 2022, FOF employees are alleged to have already spent much of the stolen funds that were supposed to cover meals and snacks for low-income students, according to the report.
"

Grifters gonna grift; meanwhile, the kids suffer.

The poor quality overall of the Althouse blog lefties is bad enough. But then you have a Mutaman who is only about a half step up from gadfly.

It's really disappointing that Reid Hoffman and Pierre Omidyar and George Soros are not funding a more capable troll group at this quite influential blog site. We are left with the left wing NPC dregs like Mutaman.

Mutaman: "They're too busy suing Grand Canyon."

LOL

Look at the details.

The "They're" in "They're too busy suing Grand Canyon." are just 2 PhD candidate students. Yes, you read that correctly. 2 people are the "class" in the class action lawsuit by the New Soviet Democratical Lawfare crew.

And what was it for?

Why, it was for "continuation" course work....which means these students couldn't complete the course load as estimated (which is where the cost estimates came from) and needed continuation courses which cost........extra!

And the Biden administration is now trying to paint this as a RICO case! The lawfare corruption of our judicial system continues unabated with the New Soviet Democraticals.

Idiot Mutaman couldn't even bother to read the details in the incredibly short news article to which he linked!

Par for the course baby. Par for the course. Mutaman is the kind of dude that would also need lots of "continuation" opportunities so its no surprise where he stands on this one!

Interesting note about Grand Canyon University: they have not raised tuition since 2009.

Sounds like a real grifter operation alright.

Meanwhile, according to US News and World Report (yes, apparently they are still in business) here's what the rest of the US Universities have been doing cost-wise over the last 20 years:

Not adjusted for inflation
Tuition and fees at private National Universities have jumped about 132%.
Out-of-state tuition and fees at public National Universities have risen about 127%.
In-state tuition and fees at public National Universities soared by about 158%.

Adjusted for inflation
Tuition and fees at private National Universities have increased about 40%.
Out-of-state tuition and fees at public National Universities have risen about 38%.
In-state tuition and fees at public National Universities have grown about 56%.

Well, those are certainly some large increases combined with failure to provide a better product.....so naturally the New Soviet Democraticals are going after the largest Christian University based on a "class" action suit (2 dudes).

Sound familiar? The lawsuit against Tesla/Musk compensation plan was based on the complaint of 1 dude that owned....wait for it....wait for it....9 shares, which he bought just a few years earlier.

Lawfare, weaponization of government/judicial system, utter corruption.
