Lawrence O'Donnell does an excellent professional job of clearly and concisely presenting what happened to Michael Cohen yesterday.

TikTok so it's after the jump:
@msnbc After spending the morning observing the Trump hush money trial from the court's overflow room, Lawrence O’Donnell shares his analysis on how Todd Blanche's cross-examination of Michael Cohen is "crucial" to Trump's defense in his hush money trial. #news #trump #crime #newyork #fyp ♬ original sound - MSNBC

That's the video I wanted you to see, not this other one, below, which I had up at first. You can watch this at your leisure. It's crafted in favor of the prosecution, which is, I think, where O'Donnell's bias goes and why the TikTok video impressed me so much. Sorry for the confusion!

I remember how the asshole O’Donnell treated Cathy Siepp on air around 20 years ago and I have no interest in anything he has to say. Stop the yammering, Crazy Larry.

Lawrence O'Donnell can't accept that a lying liar who lies lied about previous lies and continues to lie about another man he steadfastly believes is a liar. If liar's pants are known to be on fire, Larry's pants were left to long in the dryer.

I've had real problems with Lawrence O'Donnell's credibility, character and veracity ever since the 2004 Presidential election.

I'm not saying that O'Donnell is dumb--he's not. But he is a biased political hack. And some of the things he does in his poltical "dirty work at the crossroads" efforts are just dumb.

Dick Cheney's daughter was an "out" lesbian. Nothing wrong with that. O'Donnell thought he could get some Republicans to shy away from the Bush-Cheney ticket by repeatedly telling the world that Dick Cheney's duaghter "engaged in lesbian sex". Your average NBA player could say "You know" in a locker room interview 30 times in 1 minute. Larry could say "Cheney's daughter engages in lesbian sex" 15 times a minute. Not really up to NBA standards, but a respectable effort.

Ever since then Lawrence O'Donnell has been "Lesbian Sex Larry" in my mind--and I wouldn't scrape that off my feet without holding my nose. That said, the cross examination of Cohen today dinged Cohen up some considerable.

Amazing.

First, Cohen got caught in a ridiculous lie. In a 92 second phone call he spoke to Shiller about a hoax caller AND Trump about Stormy Daniels? He got caught in a lie, simple as that. And a lie he said with total conviction.

Second, this entire segment is about "Did Trump pay Stormy Daniels to not talk about something" - we already know the answer to that! There is absolute obsession over that point as if that's what the trial is about.

The question is whether or not it was illegal and against which law.

I watched the TikTok and have to agree that O'Donnell was professional. Which is suspicious, because O'Donnell is as dishonest and rabidly biased political hack as you're ever going to come across. Something is wrong. Perhaps he's ill?

To O'Donnell, Cohen's previous lies were for Trump and that's why he's a reasonable witness. It was that tricky defense lawyer for Trump that made it seem Cohen was lying for his own sake and might now be lying for the prosecution.

How and when were those exculpatory text and call records disclosed to Trump?
Were those records part of the late-stage document dump (100,000 pages) in March?

If they were part of that document dump, did DOJ withhold possession of them from Bragg prior to that point?
Did Bragg otherwise have knowledge of such records prior to possession from DOJ?

Do you realize how brutally edited that TikTok clip of Lawrence O'Donnell is? It's almost beyond comprehension.

Here is the unedited clip from MSNBC. (The O'Donnell part about Cohen's testimony begins at about the 3:00 mark.)

To be sure, Lawrence O'Donnell has been present for more than half of the trial days during the Trump trial, and has been covering it extensively -- primarily, frankly -- on his weeknight show every night of the trial days. And Lawrence of course loathes Trump, and he does in fact think that the trial has been going very well for the prosecution in his very extended discussions with Andrew Weismann, Tim O'Brien, Joyce Vance, Barbara McQuade, and too many others to name.

The segment in question is essentially Lawrence talking honestly about the one single moment that the defense attorneys had actually, eventually, succeeded in scoring a few points in this entire case. That's why I like and trust Lawrence O'Donnell. He's smart; he knows Trump and he knows as much about the trial as any non-lawyer.

I don't know what you know or don't kknow about Lawrence O'Donnell. I watch him every night as if this were a historic American League pennant race. I know well where his prejudices lie. He loathes Trump. If you were not aware of that, it is proof to me that you never watch The Last Word With Lawrence O'Donnell. Which of course is your right. No one requires you to watch. But just personally, I do wonder where you get your information about the trial.

For some reason, his professionalism clicked in on the TikTok.

I could go for an egg salad sandwich, but I just had dinner. Time to make a batch tomorrow. Good on toasted sourdough with some good lettuce for texture and crunch. Ratio is key.

You make me lol, Meade. I guess it depends on the jury.

The Prosecution is charging Trump with not using campaign funds to pay for a personal expense.

If Trump had actually used campaign funds to pay for the NDA that almost certainly would have been a crime and they would 100% have charged Trump.

The fact that Cohen got caught lying is somewhat embarrassing to the Regime. But these are the same people that got caught lying about Russian Collusion too.

It isn't like these fascist fucks are really worried about getting caught lying.

They only care about losing power and facing consequences for their bullshit.

Anderson Cooper and O'Donnell must be bracing their audience for the unthinkable: an acquittal of Trump in the only trial likely to happen before the election. With Cohen's testimony the entire legal case (such as it is), at this point, the prosecution is effectively counting on the irrelevant but highly prejudicial testimony of Stormy Daniels for a guilty verdict.

Jurors are intensely curious what the star witness in a case says and his veracity. And this professional liar got clobbered at the prime moment. Trump may be acquitted.

Cohen was valuable to Trump because he could lie so well. Small time law is a war of who lies best. The fees for a team of lawyers that immerse themselves in every aspect of a case investigated totally with every witness under a fine tooth comb is in the millions. The small time shysters are never ready for that.

“The Prosecution is charging Trump with not using campaign funds to pay for a personal expense”

The big problem here is that Trump’s campaign was self financed. That means that it really didn’t matter how he paid for the hush money - it all came from the same pot. It’s not like the politicians who paid for hush money out of campaign funds they got from others, where which pot it came from legally mattered. Moreover, most, if not all, of the payments were made after the election, so couldn’t have been for the purpose of getting elected. Again, a legal Impossibly, which is why the fact that NY Attempt law doesn’t require that the underlying crime be possible (because it wasn’t) is key here.

"He loathes Trump."

He loathes all conservatives and Republicans. Has since before Donald Trump entered politics. It has little to do with Trump.

Yancey Ward said...

Poor Chuck the Cunt- show us on the Michael Cohen doll where Bad Larry molested you, Chuck the Cunt.

That phone call was a key piece of evidence the prosecution and Cohen pointed to showing Trump authorized the payment to Daniels in October 2016. Now, this doesn't mean shit one way or the other in my opinion, it still isn't a crime even if Cohen was telling the truth about the call, but Blanche proved pretty conclusively that Cohen was either lying about the call or didn't remember the call at all and was hoping no one could prove it either way. However, the prosecution had the exact same data themselves and still allowed Cohen to lie about it or tell an untruth, apparently hoping the defense didn't find the contradictory material in the mountain of evidence they dumped on Trump's defense earlier this year.

It doesn't matter- Michael Cohen could have admitted he made up the entire story about Trump authorizing the payments and admit that he made them without Trump's approval and this jury would still convict. The prosecution could have charged Trump with George Floyd's murder, present exactly the same evidence they presented in this trial and the jury would convict Trump of murdering George Floyd.

It is really up the judge to do the right thing and end this trial after the prosecution rests- it is a sham and a fraud on the public. If Merchan won't do it, then it will likely take the federal court to correct this injustice, but that won't happen until next year at the earliest. Everyone who supported this trial should be ashamed of themselves.

Correct.

The farther left a talking head happens to be, the more Chuck adores and praises them.

"The big problem here is that Trump’s campaign was self financed. That means that it really didn’t matter how he paid for the hush money - it all came from the same pot."

He did self-finance most of his campaign but he did that, as he should have, by creating a campaign organization and donating his personal money to the campaign. After which it came under the campaign finance reporting requirements.

They're saying, I think, that, in their opinion, the payoff was a campaign expense and that the checks should have come from the campaign money, not directly from Trump.

So there were two pots.

I remember O'Donnell from the McLaughlin Group which I watched religiously. He presented himself as a moderate Republican.

In other words, he is one of the many lefty Democrats who pretended to be Republicans, like Chuck, John McCain and Mitt Romney.

The gaslighting will continue until we submit.

Well, except that he sounded, as usual, like the hyper partisan he is. He sounds like a calm reasoned middle of the road pundit, when he is far from that. So, my vote is negative, as to his professionalism.

TreeJoe: 2 points you do not want to acknowledge.
1. Getting someone to sign an NDA is not illegal.
2. Paying someone hush money is not illegal.
Bragg would love for it to be.
Trump may have signed a check but he wasn’t sitting at the computer choosing how to classify the payment.
That was someone else’s decision.

You have obviously never worked in corporate accounting offices. I have. Things get processed without there being a big discussion about how they should be classified especially when you are choosing from a damn drop down menu.

I've been unable to work out what people were so excited about at this point and this TikTok explains it. The jury heard Cohen lie and then they saw the lie exposed. Convicting Trump after that exposure of the witness would show that the Court was corrupt. Not news to me but it will be news for some. We just have to wait and see.

But I can tell you I have also seen some mind numbed losers at the trial.
