It's a trap, and they fall into it.

That's from Memeorandum's display of current headlines.

I say it's a trap — and they fell into it — because although Trump is raising some money — campaign merchandise — he's getting free PR from his antagonists. Not only are they raising awareness of this buyable item, they are displaying their own disgust — if not horror — at the sacred object.

Read more about Trump's Bible, here, at Axios. Oh! I see Trump isn't raising money: "None of the money garnered from the Bible will go toward Trump's presidential campaign, the website states."

He's not raising money. He's not even garnering money. That's Axios paraphrasing the website. What the website says is that it "is not political and has nothing to do with any political campaign." And:

"GodBlessTheUSABible.com is not owned, managed or controlled by Donald J. Trump, The Trump Organization, CIC Ventures LLC or any of their respective principals or affiliates. GodBlessTheUSABible.com uses Donald J. Trump’s name, likeness and image under paid license from CIC Ventures LLC, which license may be terminated or revoked according to its terms."

Seems to me Trump gets money in that deal and he can use his own money to pay for his campaign. Perhaps campaign finance law is a trap, and Trump is falling into it. The FEC website says that the full price of campaign merchandise counts as a contribution.

Funny sentence from the Bible-selling website: "This bible has been designed so that it delivers an easy reading experience in the trusted King James Version translation."

Fascists hate 2 things: Freedom and Christianity. That is why the worst villains in history are atheists.

You don't have to be a Protestant Christian to recognize that the best social contracts in the world are derived in societies based on protestant Christianity. That is why it is enemy #1 for progs and leftists.

Throwing enemies in prison, killing them, and taking their stuff is what they do and people who oppose that are enemies.

Free advertising. Watch for the bills to be created that enable the government to classify these things as 'campaign advertising', and attach their own special financial value to it as 'fund-raising', that coincidentally makes what Trump is doing, illegal. Bonus: Illegal in 2016 and 2020, too, but only in certain states like NY - just for a capper.

WHAT IF MY BIBLE HAS STICKY PAGES?

The details make sense:

Are some of the pages in your Bibles sticking together? No worries, this is very common with new Bibles that have gold gilding around the edges of the paper. For your convenience, we have provided links to a Youtube video that does a wonderful job of explaining how to break your new Bible in.

No, GodBlessTheUSABible.com is not political and has nothing to do with any political campaign. GodBlessTheUSABible.com is not owned, managed or controlled by Donald J. Trump, The Trump Organization, CIC Ventures LLC or any of their respective principals or affiliates.

GodBlessTheUSABible.com uses Donald J. Trump’s name, likeness and image under paid license from CIC Ventures LLC, which license may be terminated or revoked according to its terms.

The King James Version is not easy to read and it is not the most accurate translation. The New International Version or the English Standard Version are better alternatives, taking into account centuries of manuscript and language research that was not available when the KJV appeared in 1611. Of course many prefer the KJV for traditional reasons.

wildswan said...

This Bible is using a Protestant translation which is what is meant by the "King James Version." But a further point is that there are issues with many modern translations, both Catholic and Protestant. These translations slip in language whose purpose is to effectively deny Christ's divinity or to so shape the Bible's language as to achieve some other anti-Christian purpose. At times, it seems easier to stay with an older translation, a "trusted" translation which has not been affected by nineteenth century/ twentieth century secularism. Another way is to study the Bible with a trusted scholar like Scott Hahn so as to be aware of tricky points and tricksters while using a modern translation.

The King James Bible is a perfect fit for DJT. it’s really Wm Tyndale’s translation reissued by King James. Tyndale was from the border area with Wales as was Shakespeare. And the writings by those two men co-created the English language we use.

For his efforts Tyndall was hunted down and murdered. He was a Protestant in the original sense of that brand being that he protested being hunted down and murdered. So DJT as many Americans identifies with Tyndale who risked his life for spreading the Truth.

For a long time, Christians enjoyed a duality between mainstream Republican policy and orthodox Christian morals, resulting in a coincidental overlap with Christian belief and political power. This lasted for long enough that many Christians have come to believe that access to political power is a default position, when it is in fact an exception, and further, something that Jesus never strived for himself.

Now, as the Republican party drifts from orthodox Christian values, many Christians, used to political power, are choosing to cling to power instead of orthodoxy. Why is that? Primarily, this reflects a cultural ideology around control and agency as the source of happiness and self-actualization. However, this is also counter to the invitation of surrender and obedience to God.

So, in general, Christians in support of Trump have lost political influence, and are clinging to what's left of that influence with white knuckle grips by supporting someone not aligned with their own beliefs, because they unconsciously believe (along with the rest of society) that being in control is where safety and security comes from, instead of relying on God as the source of safety and security.

The above is what someone with his head up his ass would write. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, Wordsmith, but the people who would buy this product are exposed to the stories written about it. Anything in the mainstream media is exposure of the subject to the "rubes" you denigrate. In order to be saved you must seek forgiveness and redemption. When Jesus admonishes the crowd that was going to stone the adulteress he sends her off by telling her to sin no more.

Trump, the poster child for the seven deadly sins, has stated that he does not need the Lord’s forgiveness. By his own admission he is not on the road to redemption and the portrayal of him as a man of God by people who claim to be Christian is puzzling. They are being led astray and it is one of the reasons that I sometimes refer to him as Donald “Wormwood” Trump.

A case study in failure actually where the foot soldiers shot their own commander in the back with their unbelievably inept and moronic actions.

And by "magnificently" I of course mean disastrously.

Evangelicals in Iowa and elsewhere certainly didn't and don't require lectures from the likes of AMDG and Bob Vander Plaats (DeSantis campaign had $95k routed to Vander Plaat's non-profit crew prior to Vander Plaats formal endorsement) as to what is in their best interests politically and morally.

This is me when all of you fake Christian Trump defenders are burning in hell with Trump and Epstein and the rest of his friends.--->"

Its important to layer multiple lies in every attack posting when you are a lefty/dem/Psycho NeverTrumper.

But I repeat myself.

Hassayamper: "His detractors on the left LOSE THEIR FUCKING MINDS and spew venomous Upper West Side/Beltway/Hollywood prattle all over the airwaves and opinion pages and every social media site."

It ain't just "the left" that does that, as you can see on this very thread.

I love how Trumpers believe ministering to whores to get them to change their ways is EXACTLY the same as paying whores money so they will suck your cock. Totally the same thing!

D.D. Driver said...

I thought D.D. Driver was going to go with John 3:16.

Most do. It is quite fundamental.

Most do at sporting events because monkey see monkey do. But John 2:16 is far more relevant, no?

Drago said...

D.D. Driver: "Oh, fuck off! Christ asked us to repent for our sins. Has Trump repented for paying off a porn star? Please show your citations, dipshit."

I do not know Trump's heart nor mind nor the content of his prayers.

But I know that YOU think YOU do.

That "plank" in your eye is sticking clear thru the back of your head.

And while we are on the subject, where is the "proof" of YOUR repentence? Where are YOUR "citations"?

Come on now! Don't hold back! Wow us with your rectitude!

Though I would caution that your many lies and purposeful mischaracterizations on this blog bodes ill for your in the "bearing false witness" category...

Anti-Christian bigotry streams from the White left and is a UNIVERSAL WHITE LEFT phenomenon.

Well that explains Rich better than he explains religion. Please tell us, o judger of other men's faith, who are the ones that practice their faith perfectly without exception? Enlighten us Rich, with your positive reviews of those "good" religions now that you have shat on Christians and evangelical ones in particular. Tell us who the righteous ones are.

I'd really like to hear more!

Ron Winkleheimer said...

Is Trump saved. I don't know. I can't know. Only God can know that. All I know is that the choice isn't between Trump and a righteous person, its between Trump and Biden. Is Biden morally superior to Trump? I don't see any evidence of that, but even if he was his policies are crap and are killing our nation. Carter seemed to be sincere in his religious believes, but he was still a horrible president. Biden seems to be a figure-head for a cabal of and corrupt oligarchs with beliefs and plans that are antithetical to human dignity and flourishing. Think I will pick Trump.

For those of you who want to trace the origins of the emergence of the religious right in the US you need to go back to the founders of what we may call 'modern moral philosophy'— namely Nozick, Rawls, Cohen and McIntrye.

Nozick was the spirited (but logically unsuccessful) defender of the minimal state, seeking to give the skittish and tedious poetry of Ayn Rand a decent footing. With some deft footwork he created a moral framework for private property and one which was seen to protect life as property — he failed the exam piece as he was unable to give a reason why the state could tax your property for your protection.

Rawls was the doyen of 1960's economic liberalism - his concept was that moral decisions are made behind a 'veil of ignorance' — we know the outcomes, but we do not know where we end up. This gives a sort of an a priori rationalization as to why we choose welfare transfers — it doesn't stop me becoming very wealthy once beyond the veil, but it does ensure that there is a floor so if I find myself born unlucky I haven't been born into a world without social support. This permeated a lot of Democratic (US) and social-democratic (europe) thinking and is one of the better theories of distributive justice.

Cohen was an unorthodox historian who alongside Roemer and Elster created the analytic Marxist (or no BS Marxism) tradition. Dialectics and the labor theory of value were ditched in favor of demonstrating inequities through methodical individualism. Basically (as I remember it) if everyone was in a field with all the capital that was needed for production, and they could move to another field and having the same capital holdings among the community and inequality fell then a social class (workers) was being exploited.

Finally, there was McIntyre who felt individualism was source of the US malaise and reverting to a communitarian (and Christian) way of life would ameliorate the alienation and immorality of modern life.

"Moderator Frank Luntz asked Trump whether he has ever asked God for forgiveness for his actions.

Trump replied:"

“I am not sure I have. I just go on and try to do a better job from there. I don’t think so. I think if I do something wrong, I think, I just try and make it right. I don’t bring God into that picture. I don’t.”

Is that what you consider some sort of gotcha, Lonejustice? God ain't going to fix your mistakes because you ask him to do so. I actually don't give a shit about Trump's view of religion being completely irreligious myself, but I found that quote from Trump kind of refreshing- I don't know how true it was, but it is exactly what a good human being would do on making a mistake- a good person wouldn't bother with the pointless step of asking God for forgiveness since, if it is coming at all, will come after death. Fixing the mistake is the point of it all.

I suppose you mean the guy behind homeplate with the rainbow wig and the sign in the 1970s and 1980s. I just looked him up--Rollen Stewart. He is not a model for anyone, having been married four times and currently serving three consecutive life sentences on kidnapping charges (none of which involved an injury or fatality). According to Wikipedia, he turned down a plea deal that would have involved a 12 year sentence.

He should have taken the plea deal.

To you.

But there just aren't very many of you. That is why Trump got more votes in Iowa than any other Republican in a primary ever.

I have lived in Iowa for most of my life. Iowa is NOT a part of the Bible Belt. Those states are Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Arkansas, South Carolina, Tennessee, North Carolina, Georgia and Oklahoma. Many Iowans support Trump's policies, but may not vote for him because of all of his extra-marital affairs, including an affair with a porn actress, adultery, mocking the Lord's Supper (the little cracker that he eats), selling Bibles like a carnival huckster, admitting that he doesn't have to ask God for forgiveness, attacking pro-life activists, I could go on an on.

Leftists have a problem with individual choice. For them, everybody has to either do or not do the same thing. That's why their idea of diversity is when people of all skin colors think exactly alike (as long as that thinking aligns with what their leaders demand).

I will applaud lonejustice for at least having the decency to post a full quote of what Trump said, even if in general I disagree with his analysis.

I lean toward Yancey Ward's view. When I step in the voting booth I'm voting for President, not Pastor, of the United States. If Trump is not 'saved' in your view or doesn't consider asking God (rather than people) for forgiveness, so what? He at least recognizes that it is necessary to change your behavior if you think you are doing or have done something wrong. That attitude is something that seems sorely lacking in our current political class which seems to think double-down on contempt and stupidity is the mark of righteousness. It seems to me that you're simply looking for a reason to say you're voting against Trump that sounds superficially thoughtful. Just man up and say you're voting against him for no reason other than you don't like him.

And to the claim that Iowans (of which I was one for 50 years until moving to Kentucky in 2013) won't be voting for Trump in 2024, Trump won Iowa back to back in 2016 and 2020 something that hadn't happened since Reagan's 1980 and 1984 wins. Trump's margin in Iowa in 2020 was slightly less the huge 9% in 2016 but given his larger popular vote deficit in 2020 Iowa moved significantly towards Trump. Regarding religious voters specifically per Wikipedia in 2020 "Trump also dominated amongst Christian voters, garnering 66% of Protestants, 54% of Catholics, and 76% of born-again/Evangelical Christians."

So spare us your wishcasting unless you have real numbers to back up your claims.

And the even less capable members of the LLR-democratical Brigade shpw up to gaslight...though much less effectively.

LLR-democratical lonejustice: "Many Iowans support Trump's policies, but may not vote for him..."

Trump swamps all competitors in Iowa, republican and lonejustices's preferred democraticals, in Iowa which contains a significant % of evangelical voters...a segment which Trump dominated with over 50% in the primary.

Thanks for playing lonejustice. Maybe next time get with your fellow buffoons Chuck and Rich BEFORE posting drivel.

@Rich: Nozick was the spirited (but logically unsuccessful) defender of the minimal state, seeking to give the skittish and tedious poetry of Ayn Rand a decent footing.

Ayn Rand was known for "skittish and tedious POETRY"? You don't say. Can you give us an example? How can poetry be skittish anyway?

Here was I thinking she was known for tedious PROSE laden with cartoonish characters, who nevertheless had something profoundly important and memorable to say about Hayek's Knowledge Problem and the merits of a self-directed rather than other-directed life. If the entire turgid book was a setup for Francisco d'Anconia's "Money Speech", that by itself is worth all the time it took to read it.

Come on and level with us now, Rich. Did you really write this gibberish, or did you cut and paste from some Poli Sci 101 term paper you found on a cheat site?

The Bible first went into print in 2021. Lee Greenwood has sold it on his website for 2 years. The group that decided to make a patriotic Bible was going to use the NIV, but Zondervan and Harper Collins received blowback and wouldn't allow the licensing for the NIV, which is why it uses the KJV (no copyright).

He's not selling the Bible, the publishers paid a licensing fee to use Trump's picture and I suppose endorsement.

Correct. Trump is simply endorsing a product with his Name, Image and Likeness thru CIC Ventures with zero of the proceeds going to the Trump campaign. Trump earned about $5M thru CIC Ventures in 2023 in just this way.

No Trump business entity is involved in any way in production or distribution of this Bible.

Anyone doing the same sales pitch with a patriotic Koran, for Biden, among the Muslims of key swing state Michigan? Because that would be a hilarious counterpoint to this story.

@ Hassayamper: Nozick was heavily co-opted by the Republican right, who used the nightwatchman / minimal state as the excuse for cutting taxes. But it was his notion of 'integral moral virtue' that the rights of one could not be sacrificed for the benefit of others - a malleable position easily twisted into being anti-abortion / pro-life.

Rawls and Cohen, the more coherent thinkers waned in popularity, and were replaced by identitarians - another group who wanted individualism to underpin freedom and diversity, but as we have seen have stolen the left's mantle with the cry of 'I demand to be exploited equally, and the right to heap misery upon my fellow humans regardless of my race, sex, gender'.

Funny you say that as God chose Saul of Tarsus, (a person working to hunt down Christians) to become the Apostle Paul and spread the good news of salvation. He also was the author of many of the books in the Bible now known as the Epistles.
