Commenters here, I remember, used to chastise her for being "a retired academic", "a suburban woman", "a lawyer", and such, all symbols of white-wine-drinking, bleeding-heart, out-of-touch Dane County thinking. Well, apparently not. The election outlines follow her thinking the way that lake reflects the sky.
The canceling and the dishonest journalism and the push polling have together made it very hard to work out how many honest Democrats were left in this country and what they were really thinking. Well, now we know. They are questioning, they really, really want a different party but not (yet? never?) the Republican party. Or maybe a different leader (Kennedy Jr.?) but "God Almighty please, don't make me have to vote for Trump to avoid Kamala." But even with their underlying changes and questions which are steadily moving them rightward, they can still (so far) be formed into a Democratic party majority on voting day by Republican triumphalism. For example, we didn't try to persuade them that the unborn under fifteen weeks have rights, we just tried to muscle through legislation. That's what the Dem elitocrats do to us - and we hate it, don't we. Well, they're just like that, too, it is now clear.

What I often wonder is whether They (I don't know who They are so I tend to capitalize it, half-ironically) believe what They say or not. Do They believe the mantras are meaningless, or do They know they're explicitly religious and are just telling these hapless students that they are?

My sister loved doing yoga- her daughter is well schooled In it- & wouldn’t listen to me when I told her each position is worshiping a different god. We’re Catholic. She didn’t believe me. Another friend dies yoga stretches to limber up and when I explained the above to her, her rationale was that’s not how she intended it. Since she didn’t believe in those gods or the praying/worshiping- then they were simply stretches.

I don’t believe that you can remove the original meanings of anything. It’s dishonest. And that’s why I don’t understand the n/word usage. It dishonors those who originally suffered that abuse.

A substantial (I hope) segment of the muddled American middle aka swing voters is being nudged/pushed/dragged over to the conservative side. They see what has been happening to their kids in school. They see what is happening on formerly prestigious college campuses. They go to the grocery store, they try in vain to get a doctor appointment in less than 6 months. They see the homeless, crazy, and addicted on their streets. They see wheels coming off, metaphorically and sometimes literally as the average new car costs twice what it did last time they bought one.

If we're lucky, a preference cascade will occur, and the ballot box will suffice to reverse the current deterioration; we have lost the soapbox as a means of discourse, persuasion, and change. I'm pretty much done talking to leftists who change the meanings of plain English words to suit their purposes, and I literally do not care if some wokester thinks I'm racist, sexist, or even a white supremacist.

We all know which box comes next. The newly converted conservatives will not participate in the 3rd box activity, but like the Israelis who 6 weeks ago were doing everything short of kinetic activity to bring Bibi down and are now behind him 100%, the neo-rightists will hunker down and let what must be done occur.

They know. They think they're pulling one over on everyone. And with good reason. No one wants to believe that they're up to what they're up to. Because no one wants to admit people, and society, are that stupid. Think about it: the vast majority of fraud cases do not get reported because people are ashamed to admit how dumb they were to trust someone in a particular way. That makes it a field day for con artists, religious or otherwise. And, in this nation of self-declared rebels, we crank out a lot of sitting ducks to serve them. The University library had a program for public exhibition of art from the community, and among other things over the decades there was an exhibit of Islamic calligraphy and even a group of actual Buddhist monks (not Western wannabes) who spent two weeks making mandalas on the rotunda floor.

It was all very pretty and multi-culti but as far as I was concerned had nothing to do with our core secular mission. I and many of my colleagues avoided the installations and missionaries as much as possible.

OTOH, there was the time the charming young, black, veteran, body-builder and male model sweet-talked my then boss into letting him set up a Safe Sex display one Sunday night, unsupervised.
