My usual Mendota lakeshore walk takes me into a Bucky Badger photoshoot.

Today at the Union Terrace:

More of a chipmunk, really...

It’s a public thoroughfare with no effort to block off a space. Bucky was skipping and jumping right into the crowd.

I would have avoided the camera range if I had seen it.

What? "We're filming a video" Well, fuck you. You don't own the space. Put a sign. Damn.

Good to see you're posting more pictures and videos.

Were you trying for your own Red Badger of Courage?

He should have told you to fucky off.

"Uh, we're filming a video, so could you, ah, step out of the shoot"

There isnt a more pretentious bunch than those "in film"-- all the way down to the unpaid intern PA gopher.

Dont let them badger you, AA

That's what you get for sleeping in. Ye gods.

Early, early, that's when you go photographing.

Bucky is so self satisfied and full of himself. He is on a high horse, as my mother would say.

Becky Badger . . . . . .whatevs.

The real stars at the venue are a couple of Buddy Melges boats in the background. His legacy is astounding and his boats, especially the "E" boats are things of extraordinary strength and beauty. Your lucky to have them in your neighborhood. I was lucky enough to sail them long ago.

The Creighton Bluejay gets a partial athletic scholarship. Our last mascot was very acrobatic.

Didn’t they know who Ann Althouse is? They should have apologized to Ann for disturbing her walk!

Most people see Bucky Badger and assume that there is a human in that costume.
I don't.

"the impression from a distance is: 2 radicals who want to make America unrecognizably different"

Hold on to that thought, Althouse. You said you wanted a candidate who "expresses American values." If you happen to be an exception to the Althouse theorem, and believe what you profess to believe, do you hereby decide not to vote for Warren?

SPOILER ALERT: She's not.

I don't want to tell tales out of school but Bucky Badger is queer.

Professor,
I was impressed you didn’t exclaim:

“Do you know who I am!?”

Warren will be the nominee because she appeals to the people who actually choose the nominee in ways that the other candidates do not. She is progressive. She is female. She has a veneer of intellectualism. She is a scold, which is where the D's are at these days. She is Mary Poppins, except that she does not love the children she is driven to nanny.

Public spaces, reporting from Italy: there remain cultural differences in regards to queuing in that English speakers and Germans respect them, French do not, Chinese and Japanese travel in packs so it is hard to tell (they are the best dressed though). Lots of tattooed younger folk, though not the Ameiricans. Smoking cigarettes in public remains quite popular, though, again, not among Americans.

Me too! Ann didn't pull rank and make it known she was a distinguished professor emeritus.

Right now, I think Warren’s the one to beat in the primary, but she risks going too far to win the activist vote (as they all do). In the general, she needs to convince everyone she is the centre-left person who became famous in the Senate, not the loon we see now.

Against a Romney, that trick would have been easy to pull off. Against Trump, not so easy.

Why are all the Dems such scolds? They offer no objective argument for anything and just want everyone to feel ashamed of themselves. It’s completely off-putting.

An Ipana toothpaste ad, most likely.

In Madison, I have to hope people don't know who I am. I am not looking for trouble, and when I experience random hostility, I have to worry that it was because I was recognized. This has been going on for 15 years. There is nothing good I can hope for in getting recognized here.

David Begley said...

Don’t former students recognize you?

I am not looking for trouble

Jeez, you could be safer in the bad section of town--and save on your taxes.

Ralph L said...

Her former students are too busy lawyering to pay off their student debt. Plus she wore a dreadlocks wig in class.

Ann Althouse said...

"Don’t former students recognize you?"

I can't read minds. Maybe they look to see if I indicate that I recognize them, but I don't go around looking at all the faces, trying to see if I know them, so I suspect they would not necessarily talk to me.

Ann Althouse said...

I don't think most of our graduates are traipsing about Madison in midday.

Ann Althouse said...

I sometimes see people react to me and imagine they recognize me, but don't know. The worst is if someone is pointlessly cold to me and I wonder are they just having a hard life or is this special meanness to me.

Althouse, try a disguise. May I suggest this --

Ann - I'm pretty sure people recognize you and treat you like they would treat Trump or Sara Huckabee. You live in Madison afterall. Dissent from the groupthink is not tolerated.
