"I had my doubts about him and still am uneasy with his twitter stuff but he is the last chance, I think, for our culture to survive."

Do you really believe this? I find it astonishing that anyone can see in Trump any hint of his being a savior of our culture. (I find it astonishing that anyone expects any person to come along and be the savior of our culture.)

I don't think that he personally intends such action but I think we are so far down the road to cultural anarchy that only someone who will disregard the political correct anti-culture that is killing us can accomplish anything useful.

You are far enough left, perhaps, to be aware of Antonio Gramsci, who began much of what we see today.

To counter the notion that bourgeois values represented "natural" or "normal" values for society, the working class needed to develop a culture of its own. Lenin held that culture was "ancillary" to political objectives, but for Gramsci it was fundamental to the attainment of power that cultural hegemony be achieved first. In Gramsci's view, a class cannot dominate in modern conditions by merely advancing its own narrow economic interests; neither can it dominate purely through force and coercion. Rather, it must exert intellectual and moral leadership, and make alliances and compromises with a variety of forces. Gramsci calls this union of social forces a "historic bloc", taking a term from Georges Sorel. This bloc forms the basis of consent to a certain social order, which produces and re-produces the hegemony of the dominant class through a nexus of institutions, social relations, and ideas. In this way, Gramsci's theory emphasized the importance of the political and ideological superstructure in both maintaining and fracturing relations of the economic base.

You may also be aware, although perhaps not as it is foreign to you ideology, of the concept of Bourgeois Dignity, which we call culture.

We are close to losing the traditional culture amid efforts to make gender a "cultural construct."

Trump is just anti-PC enough to call bullshit on all that. That is what might save us.

Anything else you wanted to teach me, you pedant?

Lol.

So how's the game going?

So you have the day to pore through my (voluminous) comments and you pick one where I write the character of an obviously oblivious, uneducated prostitute who thinks she's somehow lessening the Holocaust by fucking Jewish men?

And you don't see how that is mocking the casual anti-semitism that I find prevalent today?

That wasn't broad enough for you to not miss the point? Not absurd enough?

If so, you're the people they put "Do Not Attempt" at the bottom of car commercial stunts for.

I'm glad you have dedicated your day to root out my hidden Nazi tendencies, but I prefer Fascism to Nazis: more my style.

I am Laslo.

Uhr, let me do you the kindness of informing you that you don't understand the Laslo Spatula shtick. Among NH any other appalling characters, he actually does do/has done a Nazi character-two actually. I suppose since Werner Klemperer played a concentration camp commandant in Hogan's Heroes, he was a Nazi too?

Lewis, if you're on a full PC keyboard, the accent acute é is Alt-130, that is, done by holding Alt and typing on the number pad 130.

Me I generally just roll. Damned if the fuhrer is getting an umlaut out of me. And as far as I'm concerned the extra e (fuehrer) is for extra pee (h/t: Robin Byrd).

Laslo Spatula said...

"Damned if the fuhrer is getting an umlaut out of me."

Indeed. I also choose to forgo the silly French letter hats and tails and shit. Because most of them who claim to have been in The Resistance weren't.

I know: pedantic.

Another trick is to just visit a dictionary site.
Cut and paste viz. Guantánamo, 法輪功 or 法轮功, qué será, ελληνικά, /wɪˈdeɪlᵻkɛt/.

Las, brother, I feed you ROBIN BYRD https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robin_Byrd and you go for the diacritics? Turn in your man card! Well at least your perv card.

But I just had both of them laminated!

Well that's a relief. Might be able to decontaminate them, in that case...

NOT A FUCKING WORD about real science. Or REAL studies. Or REAL data.

Not a single word about your bogus 98% claim.

Just snot-flinging.

QED.

If you are so stupid as to believe the name of a blog is sufficient to discredit it, you are truly a loon. That blog has more than 300 MILLION views. It has thousands of articles by eminent scientists, some Nobelists.

What you got...chump, besides evidence-free, data-free assertions?

It is a sad commentary that nooses and swastikas can now (and often does) lead one to the false flag conclusion, but there it is. Too many examples of OUTRAGE, followed by, oh, it was a SJW.... or liberal or ...

That limits the disgust over the real examples.

Of course I feel the same way about applying the term Nazi. Or racist. Or homophobe. Or Islamophobia.

If everyone to the right of Nancy Pelosi is all-of-the-above then a conclusion many will come to is no one is all-of-the-above.

I hearken back to the instructional stories of my youth. The ants and the grasshopper (bet that one isn't taught in schools anymore) or, to the point, "The Boy Who Cried Wolf".
