At the April Snow Café...

... what do you think of that?

Snowiest April ever in Duluth, they've had three feet, and something like a foot yesterday.

So it could be worse. We could all be at UM-D.

What expressive eyebrows Zeus has!

Poor dogs. They have no idea what the hell people are doing or talking about most of the time.

Ah, the devastatingly changing climate! Beware! Be afraid!

They don't know that they don't know. They don't know that there's anything to know. They know everything they need to know. We don't know what they know. These are just parallel experiences. Theirs and ours. We occupy the same space. There's really no problem (unless the human mistreats the dog or has no use for the dog).

Duluth is a cool town, but winter is too damn long up there. I remember going to a cousin's graduation up there about 15 years ago, in June.

It snowed. Not a lot, but it snowed and was cold.

Not true. To Zeus, you're a god. You control food & water, light & dark, wet & dry. If he isn't watching you, he listening to you. Now you're "staring" at him with that contraption and vocalizing, apparently to him, but he doesn't know what you're doing or what you want from him.

I think it will be over after the weekend and will be clear skies for awhile.

It's been in the low 90s here in southwest Florida the last few days, near-record heat. It's back down to a more seasonable upper 80s for the upcoming five-day period.

No snow this winter, and we have not had any rain to mention since last October. This does not look good.

How did this Boston thing get to be such a big deal?
Neither the explosions nor the casualty list ever looked to be more than amateur hour jihadism.

So, just anything not to be talking about Gosnell, gun control vote, Iran agression, N. Korea threats, unemployment numbers, and other failures in the offing?

Zeus is sooooooooo handsome.

I suspect dogs know and understand us better than we do them in return.

JAL said...

Why do dogs move their eyebrows up and down for no reason?

{looking at you, Zeus}

JAL said...

Hey Hagar --

What is total number of limbs blown off on Boyleston Street.

Just checking to see where it fits in your universe.

Not like the 300+ kids Chechnyan Islamist terrorists took out a couple years back in Breslan. So I guess it doesn't count, huh.

Or maybe you are thinking only something the magnitude of the OK City bombing counts.

Zeus reminds me of The Blue Dog paintings of George Rodrigue. His blue dog is a ghost dog, but the eyes have it. I have a wonderful Blue Dog artist's proof, it is just Blue Dog w/background. I love it.

For crowding everything else off the news, yes.

What a gorgeous dog and great companion. How much snow is expected in WI, as much as they got in MN?

AllenS said...

Hazy sunshine now with 32º and that damn northern wind about 25 mph. They say down to 14º tonight, but with this snow, I say single digits.

Record low temps for April 19 -- 19º in 1928

April 20 -- 26º in 1888

Bummer

Hagar, I think, judging by what I'm seeing on teevee, they've been doing response exercises for quite a while. They're interested in perfecting interagency coordination. It's what I hear them talking about, patting themselves on the back for the great job wot they dun, the excellence with wich they seized control and had everyone SHUT THE FUCK RIGHT UP and cowering in their homes over a single incident.

And also the graphics and the treat to all future partying like monster truck rallys NASCAR, Wheel of Fortune auditions, Betty Crocker recipe competitions and such.

Hagar said...

Chip, your "they" appear to be the Feds and the State and local "authorities."
Mine are the media, MSM and Fox News in this case.

Dear Abby,

Please come back.

Mine know how to make those little flowers out of carrots, and can pull together a fine Baked Alaska. You just need to ask them. Have you ever asked them to do that? Well, don't try it right now, but when you get a craving for some carrots and Baked Alaska, go for it. Now, this part is very important: You need to go buy all the ingredients first, because nobody will sell them to the dog - I don't know why, but that's what they told me. Then pour a nice glass of Brandy, and ask them. Enjoy!

He's just bursting to play and you're boring and confusing him with the camera. Oh, and take care of his eye boogies.

The older brother (#1 -- why use their names?) was a boxer. "Will box for passport" (!) These are google cached, so who knows how long they'll be there.

If you look for the captions you see he claimed he became "more religious."

I am wondering how the pretty gal who is/was his girlfriend and converted to Islam (!) could get away with wearing her tank tops in a mixed martial arts, mixed gender gym with her religious boyfriend.

BTW -- did you know Obama had people keeping him apprised of the situation through the night?

Just. Like. Benghazi.

Inga said...

I'm trying to keep up here, so now we are supposed to be mad at the Feds and be afraid that this is just an exercise in how to get COMPLETE control (when the time comes) ?

Ohhhhhhh. Thanks.

Alex said...

Just give that dog a bone and he's happy.

edutcher said...

Zeus has the same reaction as the Yorks down here. Quasy and Sherlock sack out where they can see anybody coming down the street and quantum packs in behind The Blonde, but it's just a dreary rainy day.

Of course, when Ann went down there, Treasure Dog would have given her a shot of doggie penicillin.

Hagar said...

How did this Boston thing get to be such a big deal?

Lots of wounded.

Neither the explosions nor the casualty list ever looked to be more than amateur hour jihadism.

Unless we're about to see quantity rather than quality.

Bin Laden had a thing about the US as the "Great Satan," and he had money - reportedly about 1/2 billion, or so - and knew a bit about business organization. So he managed to set up 9-11-01 and the embassy attacks in Africa, and funded various offshoot "al Qaeda" operations in Iraq and elsewhere, etc. However, bin Laden either spent his money or got separated from it and was rendered rather ineffective and irrelevant.
The conditions he was found to live in in Abottabad clearly show the Pakistani ISI did not hold him in very high regard.

I think this is the reason we have not been exposed to any serious attacks in "the homeland." Bin Laden's al Qaeda is just history.

What we have seen is attacks abroad by forces funded and armed by Iran and Syria, which has to do with these states being dictatorships with military ambitions - Iran expansionist and Syria just to stay alive - and some from our being in the middle of a religious war between Sunnis and Shia.

I think we need to sort out what is what and which is which, and what do we want to achieve where.

And it is serious. Any one of these loony outfits can manage to set off a nuclear device somewhere - it does not have to be of their own manufacture or very sophisticated - and the fat may be in the fire in ways that definitely will need our full attention.

Ann Althouse said...

"Just give that dog a bone and he's happy."

Now, that is the truth. The #1 thing Zeus wants is a bone. When he gets to our house, he immediately runs and gets a bone.

We let him leave a bone lying around in our house. Meade often buys him a new bone, a big raw chunk of cow femur. He'll gnaw on it for hours.

Somebody upthread spoke of Zeus getting bored? I don't think so. Boredom is simply not a concept for him.

He'll get very excited when something he likes comes up, but otherwise his in some kind of wait mode that is so stolid, he's like a piece of furniture.

bagoh20 said...

"he's like a piece of furniture."

That's exactly what they say about us.

Alex said...

To dogs, we're just those tall dogs that give them food and water.

This should play out nicely with regard to Chuckie Schumer's amnesty, turns out Tamerlane (or however you spell it) should have been deported 4 years ago.

Won't make Barry's policy of easing visa restrictions look too cool, neither.

Ya love it, right?

edutcher said...

And there's also the glad tidings that the Dinner Jacket may be behind it.

I don't think anyone wants to take credit for this stupid, badly planned atrocity. I think it's even embarrassing for the people who want to kill us.

Hagar said...

If they were not embarrassed for what they did to the "underwear bomber" kid, nothing will.

Dante said...

Someone will try to blame it on the your SUV. That's what I think. Then they will try to double or triple the cost of electricity, and subsidize poor people since the cost will be so high.

Maybe they just want to keep us guessing.

As for "stupid, badly planned", consider Ann's latest post.

They got what they wanted, didn't they?

And be thankful for small favors. There were at least 7 more IEDs made

PS We have to cower in our homes over this, but, according to Baaston's most famous son these days, we should forget Benghazi.

Bet he won't say that about Baaston.

Amartel said...

That looks cold.
On the plus side: no trouble finding the ball in April snow.
So he's got that going for him.

@edutcher re 2009 domestic violence arrest (conviction not verified yet).

Wonder if the vic was the very pretty girl in his "Will Box for Passport" photos.

Maybe he wanted her to cover up?

And we should be thankful they weren't more prepared. Multiple IEDs?

Where is the info on how #2 the murderous "19 year old kid" -- (like AL in CT -- a murderous 20 year old kid) got away in the big firefight last night?

I don't care how sad that dog looks, these videos need to include a kitten, or a tiny bird, or maybe a small turtle if you want them to go viral.

He looks sad. Why? And what is with that eyebrow lifting..

Our geriatric Male Boston Terrier is missing and probably wandered down to the road and was picked up by someone driving by. I heard car horns down by the road, but by the time I got there, there was no one there. His collar was off because he has a rash. He is a pretty dog, but he has arthritis and seizures and needs medication for both of them. I put a letter in the local paper asking whoever has him to take him to a vet. Of course I want him to come home, but I want him to be well cared for first.

These two bombers looked into the faces of the people they put their bombs down next to. Children. There is surely a very special place in hell for them.

This is why Althouse needs to include a kitten or something. People will see them interacting and think, "Why is that dog so sad?" "Oh! Because cats!"
