Twas the night before Scott Walker Recall Day, at the Capitol Square.

Not a protester was stirring, but the media were there.
The microphones were set up next to the CNN tour bus...

Untitled

In the hope local politicos would soon kick up a fuss.
When out by the monument, there arose such a clatter,
Meade sprang from his B-Cycle to see what was the matter.
He grabbed for his iPhone and opened the app,
Looked for the shutter and started to snap.

Untitled

With a lovely lady driver, so lively and quick,
She was smoking what some folks call a cancer stick.

Untitled

So up to Heg's statue the Freedom Van drew,
With flowers and angels and a militant capitalist smoker too.

Untitled

It was Lynda all in blue from her head to her foot,
And these clothes were not tarnished with ashes and soot.

Untitled

Her friend wore Clay Matthews' number 52 on her back,
Who is Clay Matthews? He's one of The Pack!

The stump of a cigarette Lynda held in her teeth,
And the smoke it encircled her head like a wreath.
She had a sweet face and a cute little belly,
That shook when she laughed, like a bowl full of jelly!

Untitled

"The truth shall make you free," the van bumper said.
And that gave Meade to know he had nothing to dread.

Untitled

"Vote Walker for Governor" — then, 'cause she's one of those jokers,
She wrote: "But Walker, please keep promises to smokers."
Meade sprang to his bike, and he rang the little bell,
And away Meade then flew like a bat out of hell.

Untitled

Lynda heard him exclaim as he drove out of sight,
"Let Walker finish his term, and to all a good-night!"

Today I was driving north on 27th St. in Milwaukee. Across the street from the Mitchell Park Domes was a home all decked out in red, white and blue patriotic bunting, flags (both US and Mexican) and Barrett signs. However, two US flags were laid flat on the ground as part of the decorations, rather than being properly displayed on flagpoles. Maybe I am old fashioned, but that is not, to my way of thinking, the proper way to display the US flag.

If only to make Madison safe for genteel lady blogger professors would I want this nonsense to end with such finality that the Lefties give it up and stick their horns someplace permanently.

Bailey said,

"Lots of Seig Heil salutes at the Walker shindig I bet."

That would have been perfectly appropriate.

The National Socialist German Workers' Party (NSDAP, or Nazis for short) was not Hitler's choice of name; he wanted the "Social Revolutionary Party"; it was Rudolf Jung who persuaded Hitler to keep the NSDAP name.

When Hitler rose to "Fuhrer" (leader), he saw the party as a nationalist and racial revolutionary organization, whose aim was the violent overthrow of the Weimar Republic, which he saw as controlled by the socialists, Jews and the "November criminals" who had betrayed the German soldiers in 1918. The party adopted the Fascist salute.

When Hitler became Chancellor, the Nazis established totalitarian control, including abolishing labor unions.

See, this is where I think that the recall process could be kept - to permit the removal of an offical who truly did go off the rails - while keeping it from being used the way it is now, to overturn a democratic election simply because you didn't like the outcome.

I propose that "finish his term" is insufficient. If a recall is brought against an elected official and it fails, said official should continue his term until the next general election AFTER the one in which he would have ordinarily have had to run for re-election. That puts skin in the game for the opponents.

As a Scouter of 20 years I've spent a lot of time teaching Scouts how to display the American Flag. You are not old fashioned - you are asking for compliance with the U.S. Flag Code, which is part of Federal law. From U.S. Code Title 4, Chapter 1, section 8:

(b) The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise.
(c) The flag should never be carried flat or horizontally, but always aloft and free.

Not much of a surprise that someone who flies a foreign flag on their home would not know how (or not care) to show proper respect to the American flag.

My god, how often is this misleading revisionist history going to keep appearing?

The First Klan emerged during Reconstruction to promote white supremacy. The Second Klan re-emerged in opposition to Roosevelt's (a Democrat) New Deal. African Americans began joining the Democratic party, and Southern Democrats began turning away.

The South began to abandon the Democratic party in the early days of the Civil Rights era, becoming the Dixiecrats, who walked out of the 1948 Democratic convention in opposition to President Harry S. Truman's proposed civil rights program. The Third Klan emerged and grew in opposition to the civil rights movement. The Democratic party became the party of MLK and the Kennedys.

The First and Third Klans are considered to be terrorist organizations. It doesn't matter that the "Democratic party" was the party of antebellum slavery and Reconstruction. Today it is the party of the New Deal and civil rights, and that's what the Klan opposed.

No surprise at all. They probably don't teach much about US Flag etiquette in the Mexican version of Scouting. (Do they even have such an organization? I may be assuming too much.) Much like yourself, it was Scouting that taught me how to fold a flag and not let it touch the ground and all that jazz. They (very) briefly talked about it in Army and Navy basic too, but the Scouts really hammered it home.

Sounds like the guy is intending to show a lotta love towards America rather than intentionally being disrespectful to the flag. Just like when Kid Rock wore an American Flag as a shirt while performing at the Super Bowl. He didn't mean to offend, but rather he wanted to show his love for country...but obviously Bobby was never a Boy Scout and simply didn't know better.
